1 The Fed was to end the 'crashes' of the 19th Century. Instead it has been instrumental for the Great Depression, the Great Recession*, and several recessions. It has failed to fulfill its justification.

*if the actual metric of the Great Depression were used and not the manipulated contemporary metrics the Great Recession would have been a second Great Depression.
