2 I can see the US occupying Kharg Island or some of the small islands near the Hormuz Strait. One or two MEU's do not have enough warm bodies for a mainland invasion of Iran.
That would require the US Army and I've not heard anything about the Army preparing for such a large deployment. Best guess at LEAST 2-3 divisions would be needed and a call up of specialized MOS's from the Reserves or National Guard that the active army doesn't have enough of.

3 A politically centrist friend, a former country club Republicans now unable to find a home in either party, is furious that what she believes to be an unnecessary war will require a massive military invasion of Iran a la Iraq 2003 in order to impose stability and good governance on the country.

She became thoughtful at the idea that we can leave that to the Iranian people, who are already busily killing off the Basij militiamen, once we and Israel weaken them at home and achieve the objective of destroying Iran’s ability to project power beyond its borders, whether by nuclear bombs, missiles, or terror groups in the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas (there linked to the narco gangs).

So we’ll see. Much depends on not letting this thing drag out, and I think we can count on Bibi and The Donald to make that happen.
