2 Disengagement from Gaza was proposed by Sharon in 2003 and passed the Knesset in 2004. It had widespread popular support in Israel. It was implemented in 2005.

And the final result of that widely supported disengagement was years of rockets, fire balloons, tunnels dug under the border, the occasional kidnapped soldier held hostage, and finally 10/7 and the war that followed. Which is why even a lifelong lefty like the Israel Times’ Haviv Rettig Gur says Israel must stay in Gaza and southern Lebanon.
