8 There seems to be missing information. Based on current available information I don't see why we continue to negotiate with Iran, which at least publicly, appears to have no interest in bring this conflict to an end. The only thing I can think of is that we are in talks with non IRGC people who do want to end the conflict, but without eliminating the IRGC, I don't see how the conflict can end and Iran has to be the ones to destroy the IRGC. Now my head hurts. :(

Time for JD to stop working for China which is what he did when he allegedly dragged Turkey and its permanent standing conniption fit into the decisionmaking process for whether we're going to arm the Kurds. 21 Typically difficult to get BDA for either side in this conflict. Currently looks like the Houthi's launched on Ben Gurion Airport and Prince Sultan AB in Saudi. Iranians claiming strikes in Diamona, Nablus, Beersheeba, Nevatim, Tel Nof and also Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

Eventually some poor historian is going to have to try to figure out what happened play by play on both sides to establish what really went down. They are going to have a huge challenge.

Sure smells like Good Cop/Bad Cop to me. It lets Israel get their licks in, reduces the Iranian capabilities, and adds some weight to the "Bibbi is fucking crazy" meme, but in a good way. And gives Trump a bargaining chip: Let's get the nuke thing sorted and I'll talk to Netanyahu about Lebanon.

tl;dr: Israel has their own national interests. Trump knows this and approves.

As mentioned upstream, we don't have good information. No BDAs, no seat at the table when backroom negotiation takes place, no idea how the factional maneuvering is going in Iran. We do get the pseudo-environment the media is working to create, and the pronouncements from the players themselves. Not exactly "truthy" stuff, eh?

We can speculate, however. The IRGC, being the best-armed and most rabid faction is probably running Iran via whatever is left of their distributed control system. They are also the faction that cares most about having nukes to make war against the infidels and are therefore least likely to give them up. Can the other factions maneuver the IRGC to the sidelines? Unlikely IMHO, but we, the public, simply don't know.

I think it is important to remember that Trump is not trying to make a deal with the Iranians. He is making a threat: Stop with the nukes or we will bomb the crap out of you. If-Then-Else. The deal-like part is Trump is offering an equilibrium point where everyone plays nice and we all live happily ever after. Unfortunately the IRGC is not interested in happily ever after. But one way or another, by one side or another, that issue will be dealt with. If-Then-Else.
