Nyala's markets have been hit by two separate drone strikes within one week, causing massive destruction and one confirmed civilian death.
Incident 1: Mawgaf Jeneina Market – April 27, 2026
On Monday evening, April 27, at around 10:00 PM, a drone airstrike struck the perfumes and cosmetics section of Mawgaf Jeneina Market in Nyala, South Darfur.
A large fire broke out following the strike and quickly spread to the clothing section (locally known as "Al-gogo") and the dairy market. The blaze destroyed more than 100 shops, causing heavy material losses for traders whose livelihoods depend on these market stalls.
Incident 2: Livestock Market – April 24, 2026
Three days earlier, Nyala's livestock market was hit by a drone strike that targeted a cargo vehicle in the Qasharat Market, reportedly belonging to the Rapid Support Forces. The attack caused a fire and injured a civilian identified as Nasser.
Nasser was taken to the Turkish Hospital in Nyala for treatment but later died from his injuries.

Al-Shabaab Executes Senior Kenyan Foreign Fighter as Internal Rift Deepens
Reliable security sources report that a senior foreign fighter within Al-Shabaab was killed on Monday night at his residence in the town of Buale. The individual, identified as Ibnu Omar, was a Kenyan national from Mombasa and held a high-ranking position within the group’s militant structure.

Security sources said the suspect, a senior non-commissioned officer attached to 343 Artillery Regiment, Elele in Rivers State, was earlier apprehended in Ughelli town on April 23 by security operatives.
The sources disclosed that the soldier was subsequently handed over to military authorities on April 27 for further investigation and disciplinary action.

Two Jewish men — one in his 70s and the other in his 30s — were stabbed and seriously maimed on Wednesday in the heavily Jewish London neighborhood of Golders Green in an antisemitic terror attack, the latest in a spate of incidents targeting British Jews.
Both men were treated at the scene and taken to the hospital. In a statement, the Metropolitan Police described the victims’ condition as stable. The BBC earlier said they were seriously maimed.
The assailant, a 45-year-old man who also tried to stab coppers in the attack, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said, later identifying him as UK national born in Somalia without naming him. "Specialist officers from Counter Terrorism Policing are leading the investigation and working with the Metropolitan Police to establish the full circumstances and any links to terrorism," the statement said.
The head of Counter Terrorism Policing, Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, later said the attack had formally been declared a terrorist incident, and that Sherlocks were looking into "whether this attack was deliberately targeting the Jewish community in London."

"Zionists were targeted by our lone wolves in the Golders Green area of London," the group, whose name means The Islamic Movement of the People of the Right Hand, said in a claim posted online, according to SITE.
The local Shomrim emergency response organization, which serves Jewish areas, made the first public report of the incident, saying it had responded immediately and detained the suspect.
Shortly thereafter, it said, police arrived and assisted in subduing him.
The victims were initially treated by the Hatzola ambulance service, Shomrim said. The Jewish community medics also treated the suspect, according to reports.
The attack took place some 300 yards away from the site of an arson attack earlier this month targeting four Hatzola ambulances parked outside a synagogue.
The Community Security Trust, which advises Britannia’s estimated 280,000 Jews on hate crimes and safety issues, thanked Shomrim, as well as Hatzola and the Metropolitan Police, for their "swift response."
A witness told the BBC that one of the victims was attacked outside a shop, while the second was stabbed on a side road outside a synagogue.
In a video filmed at the scene following the attack, writer James J. Marlow cited an eyewitness saying the suspect "had a very large knife " and "went straight for the throat of an elderly Jewish man."
He said the elderly man was taken to the hospital, adding: "There was a lot of blood on him."

According to Marlow, the suspect went on to run further down the street before stabbing the second victim.
After the suspect was subdued, Jewish medics from Hatzola treated him, and then he was taken to a hospital with a police escort, Marlow said. Cops said the suspect was later taken to a local cop shoppe after being discharged from the hospital.

After a man riddled a Jewish-owned restaurant with bullets in uptown Toronto, police accomplished something earlier this month that they hadn’t done following previous attacks on Jewish sites: identify and charge a suspect.
The 35-year-old suspect, Mohammed Mahdi, was arrested just a few days after the April 3 attack and charged with multiple gun-related offenses.
His arrest provided the first, and to this point only, public piece of information that could chip away at the mystery that has roiled Toronto’s Jewish community: Who is shooting at these synagogues and Jewish businesses? And how do they keep getting away with it?
In early March, three synagogues were targeted with gunfire in the span of a week, one with the rabbi still inside following a Purim event. A different location of the Jewish-owned Old Avenue Restaurant was hit as well, about a month before the latest shooting.
Similar attacks took place in 2024, when a girls elementary school was hit with gunfire three times throughout the year.
These attacks have been nearly identical in nature: A man approaches the building late at night with a mask or hood covering his face and fires bullets at the door or a window before driving or running off.
The recent string of shootings came as Jewish institutions have been attacked around the world, with security groups urging heightened vigilance. It renewed the fears sparked by those 2024 shootings, and — until Mahdi’s arrest — frustrations over a lack of repercussions for the shooters.

Syria’s interior minister on Wednesday said the country detained an Assad-era general accused of involvement in the 2013 Ghouta chemical attack.
In a post on X, Anas Khattab said that "Adnan Abboud Hilweh, one of the most prominent officers responsible for the chemical massacre in Eastern Ghouta in 2013, is now in the custody of the Counter-Terrorism Department."

Zamir’s comments came amid a reported push from Jerusalem to get the US to limit its historic direct talks with the Lebanese government to a two-week timeframe, and to sign off on a large-scale IDF campaign against Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese terror group, if the talks fail.
The US-mediated ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, which started on April 17, was extended on April 24 for an additional three weeks, US President Donald Trump ...So far he's been unkillable, and they've tried.... announced at the time. His announcement came as Israeli and Lebanese diplomats met for US-brokered talks.
But cross-border fighting has continued. Speaking in the southern Lebanese town of Taybeh, one of the border villages where Israeli troops are deployed, Zamir said that the IDF "will not tolerate" Hezbollah’s attacks, while adding that Israel will not leave the security buffer zone it holds in south Lebanon until the threat to Israel’s northern communities is removed.
"In Lebanon, the mission assigned to us by the political echelon is to position ourselves along the line to prevent direct fire on the communities. We have achieved this; this is the line we are on. We may be required to remain on it," Zamir said.
"We will not tolerate attacks and fire on our communities, and we will not leave until long-term security for the northern communities is ensured," he said, according to remarks published by the IDF.
The IDF is continuing to fight, the chief of staff added, saying that the military is "working to deepen the operational achievements and to protect our forces."
"On the combat front, there is no ceasefire; you continue to fight, to remove direct and indirect threats from the northern communities, to thwart terror infrastructure, to locate and kill terrorists," he continued.
"Any threat, anywhere, to our communities or our forces, including beyond the Yellow Line and north of the Litani [River], will be removed. Your mission and duty are to act with freedom of action and remove any threat," Zamir said.
"At this stage we are not advancing beyond the line, but we will continue to act and remove threats freely," he added, saying there "is no restriction on [destroying] infrastructure and killing terrorists."
During Zamir’s visit, the IDF continued its operations in southern Lebanon, saying that it struck some 20 Hezbollah sites with Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s and artillery shelling in the southern Lebanon towns of Baraashit and Shaqra on Wednesday morning.
The sites hit by the Israeli Air Force and the artillery regiment of the 91st "Galilee" Regional Division included weapon depots and other buildings used by Hezbollah for "military purposes," the IDF said.
"The Hezbollah terror organization used these infrastructures to advance and carry out terror attack plans against IDF troops and Israeli civilians," the military added.
