Nur added that 10 of his colleagues were maimed on Thursday when a helicopter — believed to be operated by one of Somalia’s foreign allies — mistakenly bombed them.
The current phase of the offensive against al-Shabaab has focused on central Somalia. The government has promised a second phase that will go after the group in its strongholds in the country’s south, where analysts say the group will be even harder to defeat.

Update: The numbers keep rising. There are now over 600 murdered and over 2000 injured. In comparison to the population of the US it would be equivalent to about 24,000 dead 80,000 injured.. [Townhall] Hundreds of terrorists crossed from Gaza into Israel early Saturday morning, attacking dozens of Israeli communities and military bases, going house to house executing civilians, and abducting both civilians and military personnel, including women, children, the elderly and disabled, Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, said in a video statement posted on X.
Conricus called the attack, which has killed more than 200 civilians thus far, "unprecedented," but vowed that the Israeli response would be as well. The spokesperson noted, however, that the significant number of hostages the terrorists took will shape Israel’s response and "the future of this war."
While central and southern Israel faced a barrage of more than 3,000 rocket attacks, the Iron Dome defense system prevented a number of casualties. Instead, the high death count came largely as a result of the close-contact executions.
According to Conricus, Israel is still not fully in control of all of its communities and bases.
Thus, among its first priorities is ensuring Israeli communities are recaptured and safe. Then, Israel will account for all civilians and soldiers, close the border and prevent future attacks, and finally, strike Hamas' military targets, which is ongoing.
"That’s usually the stage when the world starts to count Palestinian deaths and lecture us about humanity and the use of force," he said. "Let me remind everybody how this started: It started with the butchering and the cold-blooded execution of Israeli civilians by Hamas—unprovoked..."
Whatever happens in the next stage of the war, the blood will be on Hamas’ hands, he said, "they are responsible."

Enough hostages, which included Israeli soldiers, were captured in a bid to free Paleostinian prisoners, a Hamas big turban claimed to Al Jazeera.

The main focus is on mobile groups. Dump trucks, pickups and even mopeds are used for transportation. The attack began early in the morning, when almost all the Israeli army soldiers were asleep and were in the barracks or on leave at home. According to preliminary data, the border guards were killed by sniper fire and did not have time to raise the alarm.

There are several key objects in the immediate vicinity of the occupied territories. Some of them have already been captured, others have been evacuated.

Ramon air base is located directly in the direction of Hamas's western flank, 75 km from Gaza. Israeli F-16I Sufa fighters were based there.
Palmachim Air Base is located between Ashkelon and Tel Aviv. It was one of the first strikes by Qassam missiles. The 161st UAV Squadron of the Israeli Air Force and several dozen Elbit Hermes 450 attack drones are located there.
Almost in the same place, between Gedera and Rehovot, there is the Tel Nof airbase. The 133rd and 106th squadrons of the Israeli Air Force with F-15 fighters are based there.
The Sdot Micha military base is located 15 km west of Jerusalem. There is one of the most classified facilities in the country: a missile unit with Jericho-3 ballistic missiles.
