| #10 CTH Has a frequent Israeli commentator named David who has provided updates - here is his laters from today's Open Thread: ?David October 8, 2023 9:30 am Update: The numbers keep rising. There are now over 600 murdered and over 2000 injured. In comparison to the population of the US it would be equivalent to about 24,000 dead 80,000 injured.. Now we know of 100 kidnapped and it may be discovered to be more than double. A 100 equals to 4,000 kidnapped if it was the US. The US is 40 times more populated than Israel. Long lines in cities with citizens donating blood. Many prepare food for the people of the south. Many in the center host people from the south at their homes. Social media is full of images of the missing people, their families are promoting the images with phone numbers in case anyone knows. Lots of families of the missing are at the hospitals looking for their dears and the tension is very high with screaming and begging to know what happened to their missing family members. The large nature party with probably a 1000 young people dancing was attacked and there were about 250 bodies in the areas. Many many families and children were executed. Lists of the soldiers fallen are getting longer with many high ranking officers. Its hard to understand how come? The survivor from the Command and Control base that was conquered is saying that because it was a religious holiday and Saturday a half of the base was let go home to be with their families. She is saying that Hamas shot the cameras with shoulder missiles (RPGs) and there were no visuals and communications were also cut with bases. I can’t sugarcoat it. The nation is in a shock. There are still fightings inside Israel and the military is still warning people in large buildings in Gaza that have Hamas infrastructure to escape just before they take down the buildings. There is criticism in Israel about this protocol.(they call it “knock on roof”. Sending a small bomb on the roof and giving the people in the building time to evacuate before a large bomb is landing). Lots of horrifying footage of abusing the captured including women and young children. This is history. If Netanyahu wont be as tough as we want, he will be fired by the people. I know he is popular in the US but in Israel most of the Right wing consider him too soft and he did permit the Hamas to survive for decades because its easier politically to have a divided Palestinians between Hamas and others. I just watched a line of captured terrorists get sandwiches to eat after they just executed whole families. This infuriates us. There is a strong grip of Liberals inside the security forces manly at the higher command level not so much on the ground. God Bless and pray for the dead, injured, families and soldiers who are about to go into Gaza and stay there until the job is done. Last edited 2 hours ago by David? |

| #5 Learned this morning of a church group tour from Kansas that may have been caught up in this mess. If the USG had knowledge of a pending attack and did NOT warn travelers, they are complicit. Have searched the internets and have found nothing. I did find this DoS travel advisory from 3 Oct 2023. They said there is a lot of support for Hamas on the ground but also significant opposition: many people are scared about what this has unleashed, and they can’t see the point of it. Thousands are streaming into schools because they know the Israelis won’t attack there (in stark contrast to Hamas!). In Gaza right now they have water and food but electricity only two hours a day. Nobody saw this coming; the local media was all about increased work permits for Israel and support for Qatar before the tragedy unfolded.
