2 I watched that video. It seems a couple of the cops saw Allen rushing the metal detector and one of them fired at him. The rest of them, including the man in the suit who must have been a Secret Service agent, were all taken completely by surprise. They looked bored and lackadaisical. That is piss poor security right there, especially considering two would be assassins had already tried to shoot Trump. Somebody should tell those to pay attention to their jobs or look for employment elsewhere. In fact, they should all start looking for employment elsewhere.

Would it be overkill to have a platoon of Marines standing at attention at the end of that hallway with their M16s at the ready?

3 I'm with Abu on the Marine thing. The SS, with maybe one visible exception, was not oriented to the line of attack. Infantry is always sensitive to likely lines of attack. On the other hand, a platoon puts out one hell of a lot of firepower. Hotels aren't built for that.

MUST use better trained, alert, observant people.

I would force all approaching people (or caterers, dogs or robots, etc.) into a defensible, long, covered, bulletproof channel, with deployable obstacles (press this big red button (I would emplace multiple buttons) in case of doubt). Maybe one person at a time. This would solve a number of problems that I saw in the videos. Just a few thoughts.
