3 ^ Of the tuna or of the IRGC soldiers?

4 An interesting story, but probably false. Both Israel & the US have made a major effort not to hurt civilians. Exploding tuna cans seems a bit indiscriminate unless the Mossad has been able to limit distribution to JUST IRGC personnel.

5 ^But it does indicate that IRGC "soldiers" are getting, just a little bit, hungry.

Syphilis from Sheep

The theory that **syphilis originated from sheep** (or cattle) suggests the disease was a **zoonotic infection** that jumped to humans from livestock, potentially through **butchering infected animals** or, less commonly, through direct sexual contact. This hypothesis is supported by the presence of similar *Treponema* bacteria in ruminants, which cause conditions like foot rot, and the possibility of transmission via broken skin during routine animal handling.

However, the **Columbian hypothesis** remains a widely debated alternative, proposing that the disease was **brought to Europe by Christopher Columbus’s crew** from the Americas in **1493**. Evidence for this includes skeletal findings of treponemal disease in Native Americans prior to 1492 and the rapid, severe outbreak in Europe shortly after Columbus’s return.

Key points regarding the origin:
* **Zoonotic Theory**: Syphilis evolved in **sheep or cattle** and transferred to humans, possibly via **genital contact** or **skin exposure** to infected animal tissues.
* **Columbian Theory**: The disease originated in the **New World** (possibly Haiti) and was introduced to Europe in the late 15th century.
* **Endemic Theory**: Some researchers argue that treponemal diseases existed globally in various forms for thousands of years, with the modern venereal syphilis emerging from mutations of endemic strains.
* **Historical Context**: The name "syphilis" was coined in **1530** by **Girolamo Fracastoro**, who attributed the disease to a shepherd named Syphilus cursed by the god Apollo, reflecting the pastoral origins often associated with sheep and livestock.

8 War crime! I believe the Canadians did this during WWI, and it was added to the Geneva Checklist.

10 Actually Skid syphilis pre-dates Columbus' arrival per recently discovered remains in South America.

The contaminated meat butchering concept is pretty funny. I had a sister in law who professed to believe that AIDS was the result of Africans sharing bananas with the local monkeys, you know, in the jungle. Crazy rich and otherwise fairly smart, but that never stopped a liberal.

11 You can tuna fish, but you can't tuna bomb.

12 Some IRGC forces were killed with 'canned fish' in Shiraz.

I like Shiraz, but I'm not sure it goes with canned tuna.

The exploding tuna story may be true, or maybe not. Certainly not unpossible, given the wildly successful Mossad pager prank.

Either way, Haji has to be wondering about those cans of tuna in the cupboard. Suspicion is a terrible thing as it tends to fester.
