Lets see.....
NK population is about 26.8 Million and has had no published Census data in the last 18 years. Likely trying to hide the population decline data.

NK Military is about 1.3+ million personnel strong.

So roughly 1 in 26 are in the military now, and close to 70%, a vast majority of the adult population, was trained due to mandatory service laws.

North Korea is already having problems providing for even its shrinking civilian (non-Mil) population. With 60% barely surviving now at a very low piss poor poverty line. Plus its social services have collapsed due to lack of many unavailable basics. Because its 1.3 M military needs them.

So teaching a military & a Nation its honorable to kill themselves does help trim here and there.
