1 Oh the mess medical insurance has become.

I use Costco for eye exam because the visit cost is less than my co-pay with insurance.

I stopped using the FSA as the lousy $500 savings is not worth the hassle. The same insurance company that sent a doctor $2400 for a medical procedure harassed me for years to prove I spent $60 in copay (they have the proof they sent $2400 to the same doctor…)

I got a prescription that I have had repeatedly for 30+ years. Go to CVS and they said I cannot have the topical; I should use the pills. I said “f it. What is the cost of the topical”. They said $1800! I called my health insurance and it was CVS who makes the decision! and they again denied me. I went to Mark Cuban’s cost plus website and got 2 tubes of the topical (delivered) for $28.

I could go on but the bottom line is I pay for Insurance but use it less and less.

Obunghole care killed the industry, my old company John Alden was killed by that MLR. Ours was 75%, so of every dollar we paid 75% in claims. The remaining 25% paid the expenses, which includes premium taxes to every state, fund the insolvency requirements, rent, utilities, employees, and fund for the years actuary screwed up. We could underwrite in those days, charging a proper premium for the risk, you know insurance.

You can’t price for the risk which is why only 4 carriers are left, you have to own the providers

Never forget health insurance a direct result of FDR wage and price freeze in 1942. We can’t increase your salary so we’ll hire a doctor

Healthcare inflation tracked regular inflation until LBJ Medicare and Medicaid, Nixon inventing HMO’s, HIPPA with bubba and the final blow ACA, not to mention you have to deal with every state’s bureaucracy….sorry retired last week and filed for SSI
