9 That’s ok, Snakes Lumplump2498 — between British English and American they mean precisely the same thing. It’s just that the British version sounds to the American ear like it must be more refined.

I have no idea what Brits think about our variant, though there’s a whole thing over there about using American vocabulary to sound more worldly.
