In the letter, the politicians highlighted a 2008 "terrorism financing trial" where the Holy Land Foundation of Relief and Development and five of its leaders were found guilty of "providing material support to Hamas," according to reports.
Stefanik and Cotton wrote that CAIR was named as "an unindicted co-conspirator" during the trial and that "evidence showed direct financial interactions between CAIR and the now-defunct Hamas-linked charity."
In 2017, Mamdani praised the directors of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development — known as "the Holy Land Five" — in a rap song called "Salaam," which the Queens Assemblyman said is about growing up Moslem in New York. The song, performed under his rap moniker Mr. Cardamon, includes the lyrics: "My love to the Holy Land Five. You better look ’em up."

[IsraelTimes] Defense Minister Israel Katz said Thursday he was "declaring war" on weapon smuggling via drones over the Egyptian border, instructing the military to declare a closed military zone in the area and the Shin Bet to define such attempts as terrorism.
In the past year, there have been frequent attempts to bring weapons and drugs over the Egyptian border using drones, the latest on Tuesday.
Katz on Wednesday night held an "emergency meeting" on the drone threat with IDF, police, Shin Bet, and Defense Ministry officials, his office said.
During the meeting, Katz "instructed the IDF to turn the area adjacent to the border into a closed military zone and to adjust the rules of engagement in order to strike any unauthorized party that penetrates into the prohibited area, in order to hit the operators and smugglers of the drones," according to his office.
As of Thursday morning, the IDF has yet to announce any new closed military zones along Israel’s 200-kilometer-long border with Egypt, or any changes to its rules of engagement in the area.
Katz’s office also said that the Defense Ministry’s Directorate of Defense Research & Development and the Israeli Air Force would develop new "technological solutions" to counter the drone threat, and the National Security Council would assist with changing licensing requirements and legislative amendments regarding the use, purchase, and possession of drones.
In a separate meeting with military, police and Shin Bet officials on Wednesday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir instructed the military to focus efforts and resources on countering the threat of drones on the Egyptian border.
The meeting, led by the IDF’s Operations Directorate, was part of a "multi-organizational thought process aimed at formulating a comprehensive outlook for dealing with the growing threat," the military said.
In the meeting, according to the IDF, Zamir said that "in his view, the drone threat is not merely a criminal threat but a security threat with terror potential, and emphasized the IDF’s and the defense establishment’s commitment to deepen the operational response while developing new operational capabilities."
Some of the decisions made during Zamir’s meeting included: establishing a dedicated IDF, police, and Shin Bet task force to counter the drone threat; allocating resources toward long-term force build-up, including the development of new defense technologies; intensifying intelligence-gathering efforts, alongside expanded technological efforts for drone interception, disruption, and detection; and the formation of a new combat unit that will be tasked with handling the smuggling attempts, including under difficult terrain and nighttime conditions.
According to military officials, smugglers on the Israeli side of the border usually arrive at locations one to five kilometers (half a mile to three miles) from the fence, then fly drones over the border to Egypt and land them one to three kilometers from the fence. There, smugglers on the Egyptian side load the drones with contraband, often firearms, and the smugglers on the Israeli side pilot the drones back to them.
To prevent drones from being flown over the border, troops are allowed to open fire on them in an attempt to knock them out of the sky. Additionally, the Israel Defense Forces has deployed electronic warfare capabilities that can jam or take control of the drones and bring them down.
The IDF has reported foiling dozens of smuggling attempts using drones on the Egyptian border in the past year. It remains unclear how many the military is failing to thwart.

Israel has reportedly warned Western allies that Hezbollah has doubled its strength and that the IDF is nearing a major move in Lebanon.

The United States is preparing to establish a military presence at an airbase in Damascus to help enable a security pact that Washington is brokering between Syria and Israel, six sources familiar with the matter told Rooters.
The US plans for the presence in the Syrian capital, which have not previously been reported, would be a sign of Syria’s strategic realignment with the US following the fall last year of longtime leader Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Lord of the Baath... , an ally of Iran.
The base sits at the gateway to parts of southern Syria that are expected to make up a demilitarized zone as part of a non-aggression pact between Israel and Syria. That deal is being mediated by US President Donald Trump ...His ancestors didn't own any slaves... ’s administration.
Trump will meet Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House on Monday, the first such visit by a Syrian head of state.
Rooters spoke to six sources familiar with preparations at the base, including two Western officials and a Syrian defense official, who confirmed the US is planning to use the base to help monitor a potential Israel-Syria agreement.
A US administration official said the US is "constantly evaluating our necessary posture in Syria to effectively combat ISIS (Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... ) and (we) do not comment on locations or possible locations of (where) forces operate."
The official requested that the name and location of the base be removed for operational security reasons. Rooters agreed to not reveal the exact location.
A Western military official said the Pentagon had accelerated its plans over the last two months with several reconnaissance missions to the base. Those missions concluded the base’s long runway was ready for immediate use.
Two Syrian military sources said the technical talks have been focused on the use of the base for logistics, surveillance, refueling and humanitarian operations, while Syria would retain full illusory sovereignty over the facility.
A Syrian defense official said the US had flown to the base in military C-130 transport aircraft to make sure the runway was usable. A security guard at one of the base’s entrances told Rooters that American aircraft were landing there as part of "tests."
It was not immediately clear when US military personnel would be dispatched to the base.

Sharaa has said any US troop presence should be agreed on with the new Syrian state. Syria is set to imminently join the US-led global anti-ISIS coalition, US and Syrian officials say.
A person familiar with the talks over the base said the move was discussed during a trip by Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), to Damascus on September 12.
A CENTCOM statement at the time said Cooper and US envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack had met Sharaa and thanked him for contributing to the fight against ISIS in Syria, which it said could help accomplish Trump’s "vision of a prosperous Middle East and a stable Syria at peace with itself and its neighbors." The statement did not mention Israel.
