[CBSnews] A Maryland man who said he feared that President Trump's reelection would lead to a "fascist takeover" is facing attempted murder charges, after he showed up at Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought's Northern Virginia home, wearing a surgical mask and gloves, according to court documents and sources familiar with the matter.
Colin Demarco, 26, was arrested on Jan. 22 by Arlington County Police on several criminal charges, court records show. He is due to appear in court on Feb. 23.
During the course of the investigation, agents with the U.S. Marshals Service also discovered that Demarco had previously claimed to be writing a manifesto and that he had also drafted a series of notes detailing everything from a weapons stash to a "Body Disposal Guide."
The court records show that Demarco is accused of plotting to murder a victim with the initials "R.V." who, according to the criminal complaint, "has served as a presidential appointee."
The complaint adds that the alleged victim was involved in the creation of Project 2025 — a project funded by the conservative Heritage Foundation- to produce a policy agenda for the next GOP administration. It called for a radical reshaping of the government in ways that consolidate power in the executive branch.
Sources familiar with the case separately confirmed to CBS News that Demarco's alleged target was Vought.
A spokesperson for OMB said in a statement, "We are grateful for the work of law enforcement in keeping Director Vought and his family safe."
A person who answered the phone for Arlington's public defender office said Demarco had retained counsel but declined to provide any further details.
Vought has generated intense controversy because of his lead role in mass firings of federal government employees during Mr. Trump's second administration.
He is the architect of Schedule F — a regulatory plan that would reclassify thousands of workers to make it easier to remove them. In private speeches he made before Mr. Trump took office, Vought said he wanted to put career civil servants "in trauma," ProPublica previously reported.
Vought's controversial comments and actions have made him the subject of numerous violent threats since last year, court filings and sources say. He is now protected by a security detail from the U.S. Marshals Service, the federal law enforcement agency that led the investigation into Demarco and is part of the Justice Department.
He is one of several senior officials in the Trump administration who routinely receives credible threats. Several sources have told CBS News that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy also has government protection because of the threats he has received.
According to the criminal complaint, which was drafted by an Arlington County police officer, Demarco was captured on a Ring doorbell camera at the front door of Vought's Arlington home on Aug. 10 wearing gloves, a backpack, sunglasses and a surgical mask.
He was also seen looking through Vought's mailbox, and he approached a neighbor to ask if anyone was home. The neighbor told investigators that Demarco appeared to have a gun tucked under his shirt.
The neighbor initially identified the wrong suspect, but the U.S. Marshals were later able to identify Demarco as the person in the Ring video, according to the complaint, and they interviewed him at his Rockville home.
Demarco admitted traveling to Arlington and claimed to be looking for a job, the complaint said.
Eventually, he said that he went to Vought's home because he wanted to confront him about Project 2025. He denied having a gun or any intent to harm anyone, however. He also told agents that the November 2024 election was "the lowest point in his life" and he feared "impending war and a fascist takeover," the complaint says.
Demarco also spoke of his admiration for Luigi Mangione — the man who is charged with murdering former United Health CEO Brian Thompson.
When Marshals Service investigators obtained a search warrant for Demarco's iCloud account, they found a series of notes discussing a stash of weapons, and another titled "Body Disposal Guide" that called for taking steps such as "always wear rubber gloves" and "make an airtight alibi."
In the note about the weapons, titled "Dad's Gun Stash," he wrote about a .357 Magnum Colt revolver (FULLY PRE-LOADED!)."
Although the complaint says that law enforcement believed the listed firearms were at his residence, a partial search of Demarco's room by the Marshals Service on Aug. 14 did not turn up any weapons. But the Marshals Service did see him crumple a piece of paper containing the word "tyranny."
He also exchanged messages on the social media platform Discord in which he allegedly wrote about his desire to kill the president. One message highlighted in the complaint read: "The more Trump does shit like this, the more I wanna grab a gun and try to shoot him… I am at my wits' end and this might be the final straw. I want to get a gun, head to DC and kill him."
In his Discord messages, he also apparently talked about Vought, saying: "I found this guy's address," the complaint says.
He later seemed to allude to Mangione, asking, "Are you willing to put your livelihood on the line and seek out the guy's home to Luigi him?"
The complaint said that Demarco has come to the attention of law enforcement's radar in the past.
In November 2024, he was taken into custody in Maryland through a mental illness emergency petition, after he asked a police officer to run him over or shoot him.

"Demarco stated he wanted to die due to Trump being elected as president," the complaint says. "Demarco advised that he had created a manifesto and that once it was completed he would kill people."
It was not immediately clear why Demarco is facing state charges in Arlington County, rather than federal charges filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. The case was largely investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, and Demarco crossed state lines from his home in Rockville to Vought's home in Northern Virginia.
The Eastern District of Virginia obtained an indictment in mid-January against another man for leaving a threatening message for Kennedy Center president Richard Grenell. That indictment was obtained just days before Arlington County Police arrested Demarco.

Beishekeev was reportedly allowed into the United States and given a work permit under Mayorkas’s quasi-legal “CBP One” program which was loudly supported by Democrats and business interests.
The driver is reportedly from Kyrgyzstan and is based in Pennsylvania, likely making him one of the “Strong Solo Sergey” drivers used by Eastern European companies operating throughout the Midwest.

They have a huge economic incentive to cut corners because they are desperate to earn as much money as they can, often for their wives and kids back home. In practice, this means the foreign drivers often ignore professional standards, safety regulations, and speed limits, cooperate with thieves and drug smugglers, and accept lower wages that both impoverish U.S. drivers and slash corporate investment in automation and productivity.
The black market is welcomed by many major companies because it allows them to cut logistics costs while hiding from the risks and shielding blame for their illegal and unprofessional foreign workforce. The black market also undermines the professional trucking sector which has operated with federal safety, training, and insurance rules for many decades.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has tried to suppress this black-market trucking industry, but he is facing huge pushback from the trucking industry, courts, and politicians who are eager to avoid antagonizing the many companies and investors that rely on trucking.
Duffy is also facing claims that his attempted re-professionalization of the trucking industry may raise Americans’ wages, thus nudging inflation upwards.
The black market trucking companies use their foreign locations and knowledge of U.S. laws and regulations to evade enforcement. For example, they often change corporate names and switch federal tracking numbers. They also under-insure their trucking companies, ensuring that Americans cannot recover suitable penalties in civil lawsuits.

[Breitbart] Four Venezuelan migrants in Massachusetts have been charged in a one million-dollar, multi-state Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fraud, federal prosecutors revealed on Tuesday.
U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Leah Foley revealed that the food stamp fraud scheme raged across half a dozen states and Puerto Rico and defrauded the SNAP program through the use of stolen identities.
“The defendants and their co-conspirators allegedly used the fraudulent SNAP benefits cards to purchase large quantities of expensive bulk food items (such as multiple-pound packages of chicken, beef, and pork) at various local wholesalers and food markets to stock El Primo Restaurant at no expense,” Foley said in her press release.
“With their supplies obtained for free through fraudulent SNAP benefits, they prepared and then sold menu items at El Primo Restaurant at a complete profit, later wiring the fraud proceeds, among other places, to individuals living in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic,” Foley added.
The fraud connected to the restaurant scheme amounted to $440,000, but prosecutors also allege that the suspects filed fraudulent applications for benefits in the names of up to 100 stolen identities amounting to as much as $700,000 in fraudulently received benefits.
“It is no secret there is rampant fraud across this nation,” Foley said at a news conference in Boston, according to CBS News. “The charges announced today are just a snapshot of the bigger picture, not just in Massachusetts but across the country.”
Foley added that her office is investigating more cases of fraud and people should “anticipate seeing more and more of these cases coming here in Massachusetts.”
Foley also blasted states that have loose benefits programs and application processes.
“Any state that allows online applications without any ability to verify that the documents that are being submitted are authentic is leaving itself open to abuse and to be defrauded,” Foley said.
The fraud uncovered in Massachusetts is but one of many cases coming to light all across the U.S.
Last month it was reported that the State of Maine paid out $45.6 million in improper payments for autism services.
A federal audit by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General uncovered “unallowable services and questionable billing patterns” in Maine’s Medicaid services provided to children with autism, the feds said in a press release.

They then ran back to their getaway vehicle and sped off.

A 26-year-old woman, a 27-year-old man and a small child were in the car that was shot at, police said.
The woman, identified as Gabryel Ayres, was shot multiple times all over her body and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. She later died.
The man sustained gunshot wounds to his backside and arm. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
Ayres's daughter was the baby in the backseat. She was unharmed during the horrific ordeal in which more than 50 shots were fired, as evidence markers reportedly indicated.
The driver of the GMC van that was crashed into declined medical treatment.
More video from the incident's aftermath showed cops swarming the sedan, which had its windows shattered and airbags deployed.
An officer was seen carrying the baby away.
The offenders are still on the loose and the situation is under investigation, police told the Daily Mail.

If some state uses mail-in ballots or some other method where ballots are insufficiently secured, the House could refuse to seat that state's representatives-elect because they are not duly elected (b/c of the perceived lack of confidence in the results of their election). [Daily Mail, where America gets its news] In a major move to revolutionize the modern battlefield, the Pentagon has officially fired the starting gun on a high–stakes race to build a massive fleet of 'kamikaze' drones.
The Department of War unveiled a list of 25 small technology and drone companies that have been hand–picked to compete for a chance to transform the future of American warfare.
The mission? To quickly field thousands of low–cost, one–way attack drones that can be deployed in swarms to overwhelm and destroy enemy targets.
The announcement marks a radical shift in military strategy, as the US looks to move away from multi–billion–dollar platforms in favor of 'small, smart, and cheap' technology that can be mass–produced at lightning speed.
Defense giants Kratos SRE Inc. and Halo Aeronautics are two of the more than two dozen vendors in the Department of Defense's ambitious Drone Dominance Program, according to an official statement released by officials.
'Drone dominance is a process race as much as a technological race,' Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a July 2025 memo. 'We are buying what works –– fast, at scale, and without bureaucratic delay. Lethality will not be hindered by self–imposed restrictions.'
In a move to reclaim the skies, Trump signed a sweeping executive order designed to turn the United States into a global 'drone superpower.'
The directive, signed in June 2025, outlines military expansion plans focused on keeping it 'Made in the USA.'

These aren't "Kamikazes" they are "guided missiles".
The original Japanese kamikazes were guided missiles, but guided by a human pilot instead of a computer. Is a Sidewinder a kamikaze? journalists simply do not understand military affairs.

I have not been a fan of the idea of mandatory military service because our yutes are so confused, out of shape and drugged up. That said, most of the neck beard dudes are good with video game skills. They might be good with drones.

25 years ago I proposed something similar for the opening phase of Afghanistan - air-drop a bunch of cheap RC model planes with cameras and small charges. Control from nearby mother ship (possible with total air superiority.) Fly them around and crash-boom them into targets. This was before drone helicopters or swarm software were beyond their infancy.
Ukraine has been recruiting hard from its professional gamers for drone operators as they learn the mechanics faster than others and are far more deadly.
MUSCAT, Oman (AP) — Iran seized two foreign oil tankers in the Persian Gulf on Thursday, state television reported, claiming the vessels had been smuggling fuel.
The report did not provide a nationality of the tankers or say what flag they were flying under.
Gen. Heidar Honarian Mojarrad, a regional commander with the Revolutionary Guard’s navy, said the tankers had been carrying about 1 million liters of fuel (about 6,300 barrels), including diesel and were seized near Farsi island and transferred to Bushehr.
Fifteen crew members on board the two tankers are "in custody of judicial bodies," he said, without providing their nationalities.
Iran occasionally seizes oil-carrying vessels over similar charges in the region.
