#1 Putin is more in fear from the West than the East. Interesting, that Kievian Russia was destroyed by the Mongols who sat on the place for centuries. Catherine the Great was cleaning out the remains as late as the 18th Century. Given how built the Chinese forces have become, it could be a cake walk to reestablish the old 'historic' boundaries.

I’ve been reading about Han Chinese successfully infiltrating colonists at the eastern end of Russia for thirty years or so without opposition from Moscow. Why on earth would they go kinetic at this stage of the proceedings?
