$43 million in grants and gifts, ‘Center For Antiracist Research’ magically goes belly up
[LawEnforcementToday] When you are born with the name Henry Rogers, probably one of the most white-sounding names out there, it is challenging to come across as some racial justice warrior. Change your name to Ibram X. Kendi, however, and it is easy to pull the wool over the eyes of anyone, in particular virtue-signaling corporations and universities. Kendi took that to an absurd level and enrichened himself in doing so.

In 2020, amid the George Floyd riots, Kendi, whose claim to fame was a racist book called "How To Be An Antiracist," was able to dupe Boston University into hiring him to lead its newly-minted "Center for Antiracist Research."

After three years and $43 million in grants and gifts, the Center for Antiracist Research has jettisoned half its staff as of last week, BU’s student newspaper, The Daily Free Press, reports.

What did Boston University gain from Kendi’s grift? Not much, with the “research” center producing little in the way of actual research for the tidy sum of $43 million. Despite most of that money remaining unaccounted for, Kendi will continue to oversee the center as it transitions to so-called “fellowship model.”

Fox News Digital said the university confirmed the center laid off at least 15 staff members in what was referred to as an “evolving” process.

“The Center is evolving to a fellowship model. Dr. Kendi remains the Director. We can confirm that there were layoffs at the Center. The University and Center are committed to working with and supporting affected employees as they look for their next opportunities,” BU University PR Associate Vice President Rachel Lapal Cavallario said in a statement.

The tens of millions in gifts and grants to the Center included $10 million from former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, according to 2021 budget records obtained by The Daily Free Press. The list, which was not all-inclusive, listed TJ Maxx’s foundation, Stop & Shop, and Peloton as donating over one million dollars to Kendi’s grift.

Complaints against the Center began in 2021, slowly building a reputation for having a toxic work environment. In a stark example of irony, one of the complaints surfaced was allegations of discrimination in the supposed “antiracist” organization.

However, one of the tenets actively advocated for by Kendi himself was discrimination as a solution to discrimination.

Afghanistan
Taliban’s Disruption of Aid Programs Push Hazaras To the Brink
[KabulNow] Residents in Afghanistan’s central Daikundi province accuse the Taliban authorities of misappropriating foreign aid assistance from Hazara-populated areas to the ones they prefer.
Unexpectedly.
Ali Daryab, an activist in Daikundi, whose name has been changed to protect his identity, said that the Taliban have diverted aid to Pashtun areas in the neighboring provinces, such as Ghazni and Uruzgan.

Jan Mohammad, also an alias, a resident of the provincial capital Nilli, said that the Taliban’s governor, Aminullah Obaid has distributed ration cards to Pashtuns, mostly Taliban fighters, who move into Nilli from other areas only to receive assistance, including cash handout, and then return to their original homes.

Female entrepreneurs at Kabul women’s market say businesses are doing well
[ArianaNews] A number of female entrepreneurs at the special women’s market in Kabul say their businesses are improving day-by-day and that they have also set up online shopping opportunities for women.

These women say they are happy to have their own market where they can sell their own goods.

“Our clothes are Afghani Gand (traditional dress). Our sellers and buyers are both women. We are happy that such a market has been established in Kabul,” said Ferozah Qasimi, a woman entrepreneur.

“The good thing about this market for women and girls is that they can easily and calmly use the green space here, relax their minds and buy the things they need from one place,” said another woman entrepreneur.

“My request to government and foreign institutions is to join hands with us, to cooperate with us so that we can make further progress in our work,” said another businesswoman.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce says there is no limit to women entrepreneurs.

“We are seeing very good developments in this chamber which is creating markets and creating expos,” said Salma Yousafzai, head of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) spokesperson Abdulsalam Jawad Akhundzada stated that the ministry supports businesswomen.

“The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has always supported women entrepreneurs and has always supported them in all aspects of trade and industry,” said Akhundzada.

“Thousands of women in 34 provinces of Afghanistan are actually working in various sectors of industry and investment,” he added.

Kenyan linked to weapons seized at Mogadishu port missing-lawyer
Al Shabaab ally actively rejects court’s jurisdiction.
[GoobjoogNews] Lawyers representing a Kenyan businessman reported to have been behind a cache of weapons seized last on May this year at Mogadishu port has gone missing.

The lawyer, Jared Magolo appealed to the High Court in Mombasa to help in producing his client Zakariya Kamala Sufi Abasheikh who was arrested in April this year by Kenyan police.

Magolo said he had sought information from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) without any success.

"I have made enquiries and visited the ATPU offices at the regional headquarters, but Abasheikh is nowhere to be found and the officers are not giving any information," said Magolo.

Abasheikh, who is free on $6,770 bail, was due to appear in Shanzu Court on September 22 but failed to show up.

"The family and friends are worried about his safety. I am therefore compelled to seek orders for his appearance in court or his release," Magolo said in the document filed before Justice Ann Ong’injo.

The government has been given two weeks to respond to the application.

According to Somali authorities, the seized consignment at Mogadishu Port on May 9 included five advanced JS crop drones, capable of carrying 10 litres of liquid up to 500 metres above sea level and covering an area of 10 hectares.

Also found were rifle scopes, materials for military uniforms, canvas for tents, night vision goggles, swim goggles, voice recording pens, spy goggles and watches, military-grade two-way radios, helmets, ghillie suits (camouflage), portable solar panels, flashlights and batteries.

The state through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has requested legal assistance from both Somalia and China in order to gather evidence and testimony on the origin of the cargo.

Libya orders 8 officials arrested after flood disaster
[AFRICANEWS] Libya's prosecutor general has ordered the arrest of eight officials as part of his inquiry into the recent flood disaster that killed thousands, his office said on Monday.
They're washed up.
The flash flood, which witnesses likened to a tsunami, broke through two ageing dams on September 10 after a hurricane
...as in blow me dow!...
-strength storm lashed the area around Derna, a port city in Libya's east.

The officials are suspected of "bad management" and negligence, among other offences, a statement from the prosecutor general's office said, adding that seven of them served currently or previously in offices responsible for water resources and dam management.

"The mistakes that they made" and their "negligence in the matter of disaster prevention" contributed to the catastrophe, the statement charged.

Derna's mayor Abdulmonem al-Ghaithi, sacked after the flood, is among the detainees.

According to the latest toll announced by the authorities in the east of the country on Monday, at least 3,875 people died in the disaster. International aid groups have said 10,000 or more people may be missing.

After opening a probe, Libya's prosecutor general al-Seddik al-Sour said more than a week ago that the two dams upstream from Derna had been cracked since 1998.

Years of conflict

But repairs begun by a Ottoman Turkish company in 2010 were suspended after a few months when Libya's 2011 revolution flared, and the work never resumed, the prosecutor said, vowing to deal firmly with those responsible.

According to Sour's office, the investigation is focused on a dam maintenance contract reached between the Ottoman Turkish firm and Libya's water department.

It said 16 people are being investigated for their roles in the maintenance of the dams.

Of those arrested, the statement said seven including the current head of the water resources department were "unable to deny responsibility for the poor financial and administrative management incumbent upon them".

The 2011 NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
-backed revolt toppled longtime dictator Moamer Qadaffy, leading to more than a decade of start-stop conflict in the oil-rich country.

Libya is now divided between an internationally-recognised Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based administration in the west -- to which Sour belongs -- and another in the flood-stricken east backed by military strongman Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
Eastern forces years ago launched a failed assault on the capital which ended in a 2020 ceasefire. Since then a period of relative stability has held and allowed war-ravaged Libya to try to rebuild.

After the flood, hundreds of protesters rallied in Derna on September 18, accusing eastern authorities of neglect and calling for "a speedy investigation and legal action" against those responsible for the disaster.

Protesters later torched the home of Derna's mayor, Ghaithi, and the eastern administration dissolved Derna's municipal council.

Algeria, Morocco spar over Western Sahara at UN
[AFRICANEWS] Moroccan and Algerian representatives to the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
sparred over the fate of Western Sahara on Tuesday, with Algiers calling for the revival of a long-stalled referendum on the fate of the former Spanish colony.

"We Algerians have chosen the camp of justice, decolonization, freedom, self-determination and human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
," said Algerian Ambassador Amar Bendjama.

"This commitment applies to the cause of the Sahrawi people, who have been waiting for nearly half a century for the UN to do them justice."

Considered by the United Nations to be a "non-self-governing territory," 80 percent of Western Sahara is controlled by Morocco, which envisions autonomy for the region, though with it ultimately remaining under Rabat's control.

Algeria meanwhile has long supported the Polisario Front, an independence movement led by the region's Indigenous Sahrawi population.

A UN mission has been deployed in Western Sahara since 1991, tasked with organizing a referendum on the territory's future.

The referendum has never taken place, and in late 2020 the Polisario announced it was resuming fighting after a long cease-fire.

"If the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara had really turned it into a paradise, with or without the granting of autonomy, why is this referendum being prevented?" Bendjama said, while also conveying his country's condolences to Morocco, in the wake of the country's deadly earthquake earlier this month.

"You can't shed crocodile tears and at the same time attack a country that is still living through a tragedy," Moroccan Ambassador Omar Hilale shot back.

Hilale also reiterated Rabat's stance on Western Sahara, calling for the respect of "Morocco's national illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity."

"Morocco is in (the) Sahara and will remain so until the end of time," he said.

Emboldened by US recognition of Morocco's claims over Western Sahara in 2020, in return for Rabat's rapprochement with Israel, the kingdom has since deployed increasingly offensive diplomacy to rally other countries around its position.

Arabia
Saudis commit to full UN atomic agency inspection of nuclear activities
[IsraelTimes] Energy minister tells IAEA that kingdom is ready to switch from existing Small Quantities Protocol monitoring to full-scope Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.

Saudi Arabia said Monday that it will agree to full-scope inspection of its nuclear activities by the UN atomic agency, replacing an existing watered-down monitoring system.

Riyadh has demanded uranium enrichment on Saudi Arabian soil as part of a potential US-sponsored normalization agreement with Israel.

Saudi Arabia has not yet activated its first nuclear reactor and therefore the IAEA only monitors it under its Small Quantities Protocol (SQP), an arrangement that requires softer reporting and review. Introducing nuclear material to the reactor would void the SQP and its immunity from regular proliferation safeguards.

Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman told a meeting of the IAEA annual General Conference in Vienna that his country is ready to adopt the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, which has stricter inspections and monitoring.

“The kingdom has recently taken the decision to rescind its Small Quantities Protocol and to move to the implementation of a full-scope Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement,” bin Salman said, according to Reuters.

He did not specify if the Saudis would also agree to the IAEA’s Additional Protocol, which enables even more stringent and intrusive checks than the CSA, including snap inspections, according to the report.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has said that the SQP, which is applied in dozens of states, is a “weakness” in global non-proliferation. The IAEA has for years been negotiating with Saudi Arabia for it to enter a CSA pact.

US support for a Saudi civilian nuclear program is a key demand by Riyadh for a normalization agreement with Israel, though security officials in both Israel and the US have expressed concern over the prospect of enrichment on Saudi soil.

Though a civilian program could be run without uranium enrichment on Saudi soil, the kingdom is reported to be demanding the enrichment take place locally.

Nearly 4 million Afghan migrants reside in Pakistan: Report
[KhaamaPress] The resurgence of the Taliban has ushered in a host of repercussions, with one prominent outcome being the mass exodus of Afghan citizens over the last two years.

The primary destination for migrants, apart from regional countries, has been countries like the United States, Canada, European countries, and Australia.

However, refugees’ stay in regional countries has been prolonged due to the slow acceptance or lengthy acceptance processes, primarily in the United States.

Recent reports from Pakistan indicate that the total number of Afghan citizens in this country has exceeded 3.7 million, with about 600,000 individuals having gone to Pakistan in the two years following the return of the Taliban from Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s newspaper, Dawn, citing the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), reported that the number of Afghan refugees in Pakistan reached 3.5 million in June 2023.

Qaisar Khan Afridi, the spokesperson for this commission, stated that in addition to new migrants, approximately 1.3 million other refugees have also received identity cards from the government of Pakistan.

Refugees in Pakistan face numerous challenges, including the risk of detention, extortion, abuse, and expulsion. The identity cards distributed by the Pakistani government and the United Nations are either expired or, in many cases, ignored by the Pakistani police.

Between September 9 and September 13, law enforcement agencies in Karachi arrested over 540 refugees without legal status, per official reports from Dawn.com. The actual number may be even higher as the crackdown extended until Monday.

Earlier, Afghan refugee community leaders convened in Karachi’s Al-Asif Square, urging the government and the chief justice to stop the refugee crackdown for humanitarian reasons.

Haji Abdullah Bukhari, an Afghan refugee community leader, informed Dawn.com that police have been arresting community members, including those with PoR cards and ACCs, and sometimes releasing them only after taking bribes. In response to Governor Tessori’s comments about undocumented refugees, Bukhari proposed a six-month grace period for these refugees to organize a dignified return to their homeland.

Afghan refugees displayed their PoR cards and ACCs during a meeting last week.

Iraq
Yazidi girl rescued from ISIS captivity
[Shafaq News] An official from the Yazidi Hostage Rescue Office announced on Wednesday the liberation of a Yazidi girl who had been held captive by the terrorist organization ISIS for nearly nine years, kidnapped from her hometown in the Sinjar district.

Hussein al-Qaidi, speaking at a presser, revealed that a Yazidi girl named "D.A." had been freed after enduring nine long years in the clutches of the ISIS terrorist organization. He further highlighted that the total number of individuals rescued from ISIS captivity has reached an impressive 3,574.

Al-Qaidi disclosed that the liberated girl is 23 years old now but was a mere 14 when she was kidnapped from an area within the Sinjar district. While he did not divulge the specific location of her rescue, he did confirm that efforts are underway to secure the release of 3 to 4 other individuals, with plans to disclose the location upon their successful liberation.

In a similar vein, last June, the Yazidi Affairs Office in the Kurdistan Region reported that significant efforts, led by Kurdistan Regional Government President Nechirvan Barzani, resulted in the liberation of six Yazidi women from the clutches of ISIS.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: Top Officials on Biden's Iran Team Acted Under Directions From Tehran
[LI] Sen. Ted Cruz: Released documents "suggest a vast Iranian influence operation that goes to the very top of the administration."

Top officials on President Joe Biden’s Iran team were acting under the directions of the Iranian regime, a trove of recently released documents by the U.S. news website Semafor show.

At least three senior aides to President Biden’s Special Envoy to Iran, Robert Malley, were reportedly members of the notorious "Iran Experts Initiative" (IEI), launched in 2014 to peddle influence inside Washington. The documents highlight "how Iran was capable of the kind of influence operations that the U.S. and its allies in the region often conduct," Semafor reported Tuesday.

The members of Iran-backed IEI advocated for the 2015 nuclear deal. Steered by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, members of the group used Western mainstream media outlets to bolster Tehran’s negotiating position in the run-up to the nuclear agreement. "The IEI participants were prolific writers of op-eds and analyses, and provided insights on television and Twitter, regularly touting the need for a compromise with Tehran on the nuclear issue — a position in line with both the Obama and Rouhani administrations at the time," the news website noted.

#1  "emails were obtained and translated by Iran International, a Persian-language television news channel headquartered in London — which was briefly based in Washington due to Iranian government threats — and shared with Semafor. Semafor and Iran International jointly reported on some aspects of the IEI. Both organizations have produced their own stories independently.
The communications reveal the access Rouhani’s diplomats have had to Washington’s and Europe’s policy circles, particularly during the final years of the Obama administration, through this network."

Iran claims to launch imaging satellite into orbit as tensions simmer with West
[IsraelTimes] Western officials yet to comment on move, which follows series of failed launch attempts in recent years.

The state-run IRNA news agency, quoting the country’s Communication Minister Isa Zarepour, said the Noor-3 satellite had been put in an orbit 450 kilometers (280 miles) above the Earth’s surface.

Zarepour said the aerospace arm of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard launched the satellite carrier, which has had success in launching satellites from its previously secret launch program. Authorities did not immediately release images of the launch.

The United States has alleged that Iran’s satellite launches defy a UN Security Council resolution and has called on Tehran to undertake no activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. The US intelligence community’s 2022 threat assessment claims such a satellite launch vehicle “shortens the timeline” to an intercontinental ballistic missile for Iran as it uses “similar technologies.”
