Afghanistan
Taliban detains Iranian photojournalist Mohammad Hossein Velayati in Afghanistan
[CPJ] Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
authorities should immediately and unconditionally release Iranian photojournalist Mohammad Hossein Velayati and cease harassing members of the press in Afghanistan, the Committee to Protect Journalists said Tuesday.

On August 19, Taliban authorities detained Velayati, a photographer for Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, at Kabul International Airport before he boarded a flight to Iran, according to his employer and a news hound in Kabul familiar with the case who spoke to CPJ on the condition of anonymity, citing fear of retaliation by the Taliban.

Velayati had travelled to Afghanistan for a 10-day personal visit, according to those sources. Authorities have not disclosed any reason for Velayati’s detention or where he was being held as of Tuesday.

"The detention of Iranian photojournalist Mohammad Hossein Velayati is the latest blow to press freedom in Afghanistan, as the Taliban has ramped up its efforts to crack down on the media in recent weeks," said Beh Lih Yi, CPJ’s Asia program coordinator, in Kuala Lumpur. "Taliban authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Velayati, explain why they detained him in the first place, and end these arbitrary arrests once and for all."

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid did not respond to a CPJ’s request for comment sent via messaging app.

The Taliban has detained at least five other journalists this month on claims they worked for media outlets operating from exile. Authorities also banned women’s voices from broadcasts in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province.

Since the fall of Kabul on August 15, 2021, the Taliban’s repression of the Afghan media has worsened. On the second anniversary of the group’s return to power, CPJ called on the Taliban to stop its relentless campaign of intimidation and abide by its promise to protect journalists in Afghanistan.

Taliban Detain Former Government Military Official in Parwan Province
[8am] Local sources in Parwan have reported the detention of a former government military official by the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
within the province.

According to sources speaking to Hasht-e Subh, the Taliban apprehended this former military official on Monday night, August 22, from the village of Qala-e Nasro in the Baghram district of Parwan province and transferred him to an undisclosed location.

The individual in question, named Haqmal, previously served as one of the officers in the former government’s Ministry of Interior, working within Kabul’s security command.

Although the exact motive behind Haqmal’s detention remains unclear, sources indicate that the Taliban apprehended him due to his affiliation with the previous government’s military.

As of now, the Taliban have not issued any statements regarding this matter.

It is noteworthy that since their rise to power, the Taliban have detained, tortured, and, in some cases, executed hundreds of former government military personnel and their families under various pretexts.

In the most recent case, on Saturday night, August 19, nearly 19 months after the liquidation of a former military official, the group also killed his wife in Sar-e Pul province.

Daily Evacuation Brief August 23, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • UN REPORT HIGHLIGHTS HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS BY THE TALIBAN OVER LAST 2 YEARS – A scathing report from the Human Rights Service of UNAMA claims hundreds of people were denied asylum under the much-maligned General Amnesty program and were killed, tortured, or arbitrarily arrested. The report is extremely detailed but the authors admit that many other offenses had been alleged but could not be verified and were omitted. The Taliban wasted little time in responding to the report and the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, fired off responses on social media that denied the findings of the report, but did seem to admit that some acts of vendetta had been undertaken but the number was extremely low. One can view the full reports in Pashto, Dari, and English by CLICKING HERE and scrolling to the bottom of the page.

  • HAQQANI WARNS PAKISTAN AGAINST TARGETING THREATS IN AFGHANISTAN – The Minister of the Interior addressed the issue of cross-border terrorism again on Monday at a public gathering. The Minister again urged Pakistani officials to stop blaming the IEA for the problem and to begin negotiations with the TTP directly. Minister Haqqani was involved in brokering the cease-fire deal between the TTP and Pakistan’s government. However, he has shown little interest in interceding in the problem this time around.

  • TTP AND PAKISTANI ARMY CLASH IN NORTH WAZIRISTAN, AT LEAST 10 DEAD – 6 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 4 TTP militants died when an ambush on two Army vehicles resulted in a firefight that lasted for over an hour. The incident took place in the Asman Manza area, just adjacent to the Afghan border. Unconfirmed reports say that 2 of the TTP militants were arrested and may have been wounded in the melee.

Car bomb hits Somalia's capital amid offensive against Al-Shabaab
[Garowe] A suicide kaboom happened on Tuesday morning at Ifka Halane intersection in Mogadishu, leaving at least one person dead.

The suicide kaboom, which took place near the Land Office department around Mogadishu stadium, was executed by a jacket wallah driving a car filled with explosives.

Harbi Salad Omar, an official of the transport department of the Hamar municipality, has been confirmed dead in the blast.

Al-Shabaab

has grabbed credit for the bombing, which comes as the city's security situation was improving for the past months.

Somalia troops retake key Al-Shabaab strongholds
[Garowe] The Somali National Army continued to move closer to the strongholds of al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
with the government gearing for the second phase of operations against the group, which controls huge chunks of central and southern parts of the country.

General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhiyadin, the Commander of the SNA Force, says the government troops are determined to enter al-Shabaab strongholds ahead of the crackdown against the turbans. The second phase is set to begin in due course according to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

According to him, the troops made it to War Xoolo and Wabxo on Monday morning. The target for the units operating in these western parts of Galgudud is Elbur town. Government troops are also conducting operations in the vicinity of Cawsweyne, one of the largest villages on the eastern side of Galgudud.

The strategic plan of the army is to storm Galhareri, a major al-Shabaab stronghold in central Somalia, reports indicate. The government troops are determined to comb HirShabelle and Galmadug states where the first phase of operations left over 3,000 bully boyz dead.

Combing the area before the final assault in Jubaland and Southwest states is considered one of the most immediate responses by the government of Somalia. The second phase is set to begin sooner, with members of the international community particularly the African Union

Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] playing a major role.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud believes when Elbur and Galhareri are captured, federal forces will continue to stay in the region until the locals are capable of taking responsibility for the security of their localities. Locals have also been playing a fundamental role in degrading al-Shabaab.

Renewed clashes in South Darfur displaces 50,000 people: UN
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Up to 50,000 people have been displaced in the recent renewed festivities between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Nyala town of South Darfur State, the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
said.

The festivities, which started on August 11, has seen 60 people killed and 250 injured.

According to the UN humanitarian agency (UNOCHA), trucks loaded with relief supplies are unable to travel to Nyala town due to fighting, while staff at the Ottoman Turkish hospital are overwhelmed by the numbers of injured people in need of assistance.

Reports indicate humanitarian partners on the ground have low medical supplies.

The ongoing festivities have also resulted in to the displacement of people in Ad Du’ayn town of East Darfur State as well as Al Fasher Town in North Darfur State.

OCHA, in its latest report, said trucks loaded with nutrition, health, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) supplies destined for Nyala Town have remained in Ad Du’ayn Town, the capital of East Darfur, since August 14 due to the fighting.

"There are concerns that continued fighting will cause the already precarious humanitarian situation in the state to deteriorate and heighten the health, nutrition, sanitation and food security needs of the vulnerable," noted the report.

Communication, electricity and water systems are not functioning due to fighting.

Intense clashes over Sudanese Armoured Corps base
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Contradictory statements were issued by the Sudanese army and the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) regarding the control of the armoury corps headquarters, following a fierce battle during the second attack on Monday.

For the consecutive second day, paramilitary units launched an assault on the primary military facility of the Armoured Corps, covering an expanse of approximately 20 kilometres. This location houses three tank battalions, two mechanized infantry brigades, and one mechanized infantry battalion.

In the afternoon of Monday, forces commanded by Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, also known as “Hemetti,” declared that they had successfully breached the army’s defence lines. They released videos depicting their troops inside a warehouse containing armoured vehicles and machine guns. Additional footage exhibited RSF fighters asserting their presence within the base.

Contrastingly, the Sudanese army unveiled videos featuring their soldiers, claiming to be in pursuit of RSF elements that had attacked their base. The Army’s spokesperson further stated that they had thwarted the second RSF attack, with their forces now engaged in the pursuit of the “fleeing militia remnants.”

“The enemy, having suffered severe retribution from our forces and sustaining substantial losses in terms of personnel, vehicles, equipment, and weaponry, has been defeated,” said the military statement.

While the Sudanese army maintains control over all its outlying garrisons, including those in the Darfur region, the RSF targeted the army’s headquarters in Khartoum. The central command remains partially under the army control, with Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan still present there.

The significance of the armoured corps for the RSF is profound, as it forms the nucleus of the SAF’s infantry forces. Capturing this military base would also grant them control over a vital bridge connecting Khartoum and northern Omdurman, where the Logistic Army is stationed.

Conversely, the rival paramilitary forces assert that they have gained dominion over substantial portions of the military compound, though they have not provided detailed specifics.

The RSF statement further said they killed 260 army troops and confiscated a substantial array of military equipment, weaponry, and ammunition, including 34 armoured vehicles and tanks, 12 artillery pieces, and 78 vehicles.

Hunger has killed at least 500 children in war-torn Sudan
[AFRICANEWS] At least 498 children "and probably hundreds more" have died of starvation in four months of war in Sudan, the NGO Save the Children reported on Tuesday.
Feed em Victoria Nuland!
In a country where before the war, one in three inhabitants suffered from hunger, "children are dying of hunger when it could have been completely avoided", alarms Arif Noor, its director in Sudan, in a blurb.

"At least 498 children in Sudan and probably hundreds more have died of starvation" since the start of the war on April 15, he adds. "We never imagined seeing so many children dying of starvation but this is the new reality in Sudan."

And the situation could get worse as Save the Children, unable to operate amid the fighting, had to stop treating "31,000 malnourished children". In May, the factory that produced 60% of nutritional treatments for children was destroyed.

The war - which could last for years according to experts - between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (FSR, paramilitary) has caused around 5,000 deaths since April 15, according to a report by the NGO Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (Acled). It also forced more than four million people to flee.

Faced with the horror, the international community is struggling to finance aid to displaced persons, refugees, injured and other victims of sexual violence, while international justice is concerned about "war crimes". Humanitarians, prevented from entering or circulating by the authorities and attacked, repeat that they have only received 27% of their funding needs.

On Tuesday, the violence continued, mainly in Khartoum and Darfur, a western region the size of La Belle France where a quarter of the approximately 48 million Sudanese live. There, the fighting is concentrated in Nyala, capital of South Darfur, where since August 11 they have made "60 dead, 250 injured and 50,000 displaced", according to the UN.

The army reported that its local commander was "murdered" there on Monday. While the fighting prevents access for trucks loaded with humanitarian aid, the Ottoman Turkish hospital, the only one still functioning in Nyala, said it was overwhelmed by the influx of maimed.

Recently the war has also reached el-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur after, according to the humanitarian research laboratory of the American University of Yale, at least 27 localities in Darfur were burned by the RSF and Arab militias allies.

"Nobody stops the FSR, they move freely while the army is entrenched in its bases", assures AFP Nathaniel Raymond, director of this laboratory which collaborates with the Conflict Observatory.

Nearly 200 migrants intercepted off Morocco coast
[AlAhram] Morocco's navy on Tuesday rescued nearly 200 migrants colonists from sub-Saharan Africa in flimsy boats off the country's southern coast and Western Sahara, state media reported.

Including the latest group, at least 518 migrants colonists from sub-Saharan Africa have been brought back to Morocco since August 8, according to an AFP tally based on Moroccan military sources.

Sailors found the latest group, totalling 190, in "waters between Tan-Tan and Dakhla", a military source told state news agency MAP. Among them were 11 women, MAP said.

Spain's Canary Islands are only about 150 kilometres (93 miles) off southern Morocco, west of Tan-Tan, which is northeast of Dakhla in the disputed Western Sahara.

The Canary migratory route has experienced a marked upsurge of activity in recent weeks.

Moroccan authorities said they halted 26,000 irregular migration attempts in the first five months of 2023.

In the first six months, 7,213 migrants colonists reached the Canary Islands by boat, Spanish interior ministry figures show.

ese died in mid-July when their boat sank off Morocco, according to authorities in Senegal.

Libya deports 486 illegal migrants from Egypt and Nigeria
[AFRICANEWS] Libyan authorities announced on Monday what they said was the deportation of 486 illegal migrants colonists of Egyptian and Nigerian nationalities.**The Minister of Interior for the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based government, Major General Imad Trabelsi, said 192 migrants colonists from Nigeria, including 102 who arrived from Tunisia, were due to be deported.

He added a further 294 who had entered the country "illegally" from Egypt would be sent back to authorities in Cairo.

Libyan authorities on Monday repatriated 161 Nigerians, officials said, part of a UN-backed voluntary return scheme as some North African countries see a spike in irregular migration.

Interior Minister Imed Trabelsi, of the UN-recognised government based in the war-torn country's west, met the migrants colonists before their departure.

"We cannot bear the burden of clandestine migration alone" without international support, he told news hounds at the airport.

He said that out of the group, "102 were intercepted at the border as they were trying to" cross between Libya and Tunisia.

The North African neighbours on August 10 agreed to share responsibility for providing shelter for hundreds of migrants colonists stranded at their border, ending a month-long crisis triggered by mass expulsions of migrants colonists by Tunis.

Some 2,000 migrants colonists, primarily from sub-Saharan African countries, had been driven to the remote desert area of Ras Jedir by Tunisian authorities and left there to fend for themselves, according to witnesses, rights groups and UN agencies.

Since the start of July, at least 27 have been found dead in the border area and another 73 were missing, a humanitarian source told AFP earlier this month.

An official with Nigeria's embassy in Tripoli said the group of 161 was "not forced back" home.

"We spoke to (them) and explained that migration is not bad... but you have to follow due process," said embassy adviser Samuel Okeri.

Central African Republic: Maxime Mokom denies any war crimes before the ICC
[AFRICANEWS] Prosecutors investigating war crimes will try from Tuesday to convince the judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to bring to justice a former Central African militia leader they accuse of attacks against Moslem civilians.

Maxime Mokom, 44, was the leader of the anti-balaka, self-proclaimed self-defense militias made up mostly of Christian and animist fighters created in 2013 in reaction to the capture of Bangui by the Séléka, a coalition of gangs mainly made up of Moslems opposed to former President Francois Bozizé.

He faces 20 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity for atrocities committed in 2013 and 2014, including attacks on civilians, murder, rape, looting and attacks on mosques.

Prosecutors will now seek, in a key three-day hearing at the ICC, which sits in The Hague, to convince judges that the evidence is strong enough to send Mr Mokom to the dock. Judges will then decide whether Mr. Mokom should stand trial.

Prosecutors said that Mr. Mokom, national coordinator of the "anti-Balaka" according to them, had provided "logistical support to military operations (...) in particular by providing funds, weapons, medicine and ammunition".

Mr. Mokom, according to prosecutors, led the planning and coordination of attacks against the capital Bangui and the city of Bossangoa (northwest) at the end of 2013. The attacks forced thousands of Moslem civilians to flee the capital and cross the border into neighbouring Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
and Chad.

"Many walked for weeks ... while being chased," prosecutors said. "Others were moved to enclaves, where they were then confined," they added.

"Widespread and systematic" attacks on Moslem civilians by anti-balaka militias continued even after Seleka
...a 'mainly' Moslem rebel force in the Central African Republic that overthrew the govt, imposed a regime of rapine and looting on the country's non-Moslem population, and was then tossed by France. They still exist, getting funding and weapons from somewhere or other, licking their wounds, complaining about the oppression of Moslems, and occasionally raping and looting someone...
forces withdrew from Bangui until at least December 2014, they claimed. "The message to the Moslem population was clear: leave CAR or die," prosecutors said.

The violence in the Central African Republic committed by the Séléka and the anti-balaka - meaning "anti-machete" - would have left thousands dead and more than a hundred thousand displaced, according to the ICC. Last year, Chadian authorities handed Mr Mokom over to the ICC, which had issued an arrest warrant for him in 2018.

Two former anti-balaka warlords, Patrice-Edouard Ngaïssona and Alfred Yekatom, are already on trial by the ICC. Last year, Seleka commander Mahamat Said Abdel Kani denied charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity before the court, created in 2002 to try the world's worst crimes.

Aden residents protest deteriorating living standards from currency collapse and power outages
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Hundreds of citizens erupted into the streets on Monday evening, in Yemen

’s Southern port city of Aden, as a result of power outages and the collapse of the electricity system.

The video shows dozens of citizens under a water tank washing themselves to find relief in the intense heat of the city.
Then they complain of no potable water
These scenes reflect the great suffering of the citizens in Aden that they have endured in light of the silence of the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

According to local sources, Aden’s streets witnessed angry demonstrations this evening, in which the protesters burned tires and blocked the streets, denouncing the worsening living standards and demanding an end to the energy outage.

Earlier on Monday, activists had called for angry demonstrations tonight in the city to condemn the collapse of services.

According to activists, these calls are in response to the continuous collapse of the currency and essential services, as well as power outages lasting up to 10 hours each.

defendants in my Ngo v. Rose City Antifa, et al. lawsuit, the court heard evidence about the brutal June 29, 2019 beating I suffered at a Rose City Antifa event where I was maimed. The court found that I was indeed battered and assaulted by Madison "Denny" Lee Allen, Katherine "Corbyn" Belyea and Sammich Overkill Schott-Deputy (formerly Joseph Christian Evans). The court awarded me $300,000—to be split equally among these three attackers.

Today's victory is a small vindication for the disappointing jury verdict earlier this month at trial. Collecting on these judgments will pose serious challenges; however, I’m deeply grateful for the support of the @liberty_ctr and my counsel Dorothy Yamamoto (@MY_llp_law), Gregory Michael, @pnjaban, James Buchal and @mark_trammell for believing in me, and helping me hold these attackers accountable for trying to violent mostly peacefully silence my First Amendment rights. While it will continue to be a steep uphill battle to collect today's awarded damages given the default defendants' history of evasion, I remain determined to hold Antifa and its members accountable for their violent mostly peaceful attacks.

Rangers apprehend six Indian smugglers inside Pakistan
[GEO.TV] Pakistain Rangers personnel, deployed along the international border with India, have apprehended six Indian smugglers inside Pak territory from July 29 to August 3, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a blurb on Tuesday.

"These smugglers/criminals were trying to smuggle narcotics, weapons and ammunition into Pakistain. It is surprising that these smugglers could cross the heavily fenced border under perpetual surveillance of Indian Border Security Force (BSF)," the military’s media wing stated.

The communique further stated that the incident showed likely complicity of BSF troops in smuggling narcotics and weapons. "In addition, it is also surprising that Indian BSF troops have so far failed to report [the] six missing citizens."

According to the ISPR statement, four of the smugglers — namely Gurmeej son of Guldeep Singh, Shinder Singh son of Bhora Singh, Juginder Singh son of Thakur Singh, and Vishal son of Jagga — belonged to Ferozpur, whereas Rattan Pal Singh son of Mahinder Singh and Garvender Singh son of Mukhtiar Singh belonged to Jalandhar and Ludhiana respectively.

"These Indian smugglers will be dealt as per [the] law of the land for illegally entering into Pakistain and indulging in nefarious activities," the ISPR said.

The statement further added: "Security forces of Pakistain will continue to maintain vigil and expect that Indian BSF will act professionally and sever their ties with smuggling rackets operating from their territory".

Six soldiers martyred during exchange of fire with terrorists in South Waziristan
[GEO.TV] At least six soldiers were martyred while fighting murderous Moslems during an intense exchange of fire in South Wazoo’s general area Asman Manza in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, the military's media wing said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and resultantly four murderous Moslems were sent to hell, while two murderous Moslems were maimed.

The ISPR statement added that sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any other murderous Moslems found in the area.

"Armed forces of Pakistain are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve," it added.

Last week, the military troops had bumped off two murderous Moslems during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in KP's Khyber district.

The security forces, according to ISPR, conducted the IBO on the reported presence of murderous Moslems in the Bara area of Khyber district on the night of August 18-19.

Pakistain has seen a steep rise in terrorist activities including several suicide kabooms and gun attacks mainly targeting police and law enforcement agencies in the northwestern provinces, which resulted in hundreds of deaths and damage to properties since the return of Taliban

rulers in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Khaama Press adds:
Pakistani Taliban fighters ambushed a military convoy within a former militant stronghold in the country’s northwest near the border of Afghanistan on Tuesday. The ensuing fierce gunfire exchange caused the deaths of at least six Pakistani soldiers and four militants, the military said.

The attack occurred in South Waziristan, a district within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as reported by the military. In response, soldiers eliminated four insurgents and injured two others. A search operation is currently in progress to track down the attackers in the region.

Mohammad Khurasani, the official spokesperson of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), boldly claimed responsibility for the attack. In boldly asserting their involvement, Khurasani emphasized the group’s association with the incident, leaving no room for doubt.

Five ISIS suspects arrested in Nineveh
[Rudaw] Iraqi counterterrorism forces on Monday announced arresting five men suspected of being members of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (ISIS) in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh.

The suspects were arrested as a result of an operation carried out by the Iraqi intelligence agency’s counterterrorism units "based on intelligence provided by citizens," reported Iraq’s security media cell.

The agency said that they had documents indicating that the men were members of the hard boy group, adding that the suspects had confessed to receiving payment for being members and that their statements have been referred to relevant authorities.

Thousands of people have been detained across Iraq since 2014 for suspected links to terrorist groups, including ISIS, while hundreds have been executed.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that at least two ISIS operatives were killed and an additional 24 detained in partnered operations with their allies in Iraq during the month of July.

Israeli forces nab 2 Palestinian suspects in deadly terror attack near Hebron
[IsraelTimes] Counterterror officers arrest suspects — relatives — in West Bank city of Hebron, seize weapon, following shooting that killed Batsheva Nigri and seriously maimed another man

Israeli security forces arrested two Paleostinians early Tuesday morning on suspicion of carrying out a deadly terror attack near Hebron a day earlier, in which a 42-year-old mother of three was killed and a man in his 40s was seriously maimed when their vehicle came under fire from a passing car on the Route 60 highway.

In a joint statement, the Shin Bet security agency, Border Police, and Israel Defense Forces said the two suspects — relatives — were caught in the southern West Bank city of Hebron by members of the police’s elite Yamam counterterrorism unit.

The Shin Bet said the suspects, Hebron residents, "tied themselves" to the shooting attack, which occurred close to the Beit Hagai junction on Monday morning.

Israeli forces also seized an M-16 assault rifle, suspected to have been used in the attack.

The two suspects were named by Paleostinian media as Saqer and Mohammed a-Shanter, and were said to be brothers.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant later ordered the military’s liaison to the Paleostinians, known as COGAT, to revoke the entry permits to Israel of dozens of relatives of the two suspected terrorists. There was no immediate comment from COGAT confirming it had carried out the move.

Maj. Gen. Ghassan Alian, head of COGAT, has previously said the policy is intended to dissuade Paleostinians from planning terror attacks, as doing so would harm their extended family’s livelihood. Critics have called it collective punishment.

Previously, only immediate family members would have their entry and work permits to Israel revoked, if background checks determined they had ties to terrorists.

Security forces had launched a manhunt for suspects following the attack and closed off a number of roads in the area, questioning Paleostinians entering and leaving the city.

The IDF had been given a description of the suspected vehicle used by the button men to carry out the terror attack. The vehicle had no license plates and was believed to have fled toward the Hebron area. Security forces later found a burnt-out vehicle near the Paleostinian town of Halhul, which apparently matched the description of the terrorists’ car.

In the Monday morning attack, kindergarten teacher Nigri was killed, and Aryeh Leib Gottlieb, a father of six in his 40s, was seriously maimed. Nigri’s 12-year-old daughter was in the vehicle at the time of the attack and emerged unharmed.

claims 17-year-old Uthman Abu Kharj as member

A Paleostinian teenager, claimed as a member of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad terror group, was killed by Israeli soldiers during festivities in a town near the northern West Bank city of Jenin on Tuesday morning, Paleostinian health officials said.

The Paleostinian Authority health ministry said 17-year-old Uthman Atef Muhhamed Abu Kharj was fatally shot in the head by Israeli forces in Zababdeh, a town south of Jenin.

The Israel Defense Forces said that Paleostinians hurled bombs at troops in the town. The soldiers returned fire, hitting at least one suspect, the IDF said.

Paleostinian Islamic Jihad later claimed Abu Kharj as a member and a "fighter" in the terror group’s local wing in the Jenin area.

The IDF said Tuesday morning that troops detained 32 wanted Paleostinians during raids across the West Bank overnight, including two who are suspected of carrying out a deadly terror attack near Hebron a day earlier.

There were festivities elsewhere during the IDF’s overnight arrest operations, including in the town of Azzun and the villages of Abwein and Silat al-Harithiya, the military said.

As of the first half of 2023, the number of affected Syrian asylum seekers has reached 452 individuals, including 20 children and 26 women. Tragically, 25 people were killed and 121 others were injured during direct targeting by live bullets while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border. In addition, Turkish border guards have assaulted and beat 306 individuals and have used excessive force to prevent them from crossing the border.

Turkish border guards shoot two Syrians, arrest others
Aug 21, 2023
[NPASyria] Turkish border guards shot on Monday two civilians while attempting to cross the border from a village in Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria. They also arrested five others.

An exclusive source told North Press that the two young men, Saif Burhan and Muhammad Haj Khaled, were shot by the Turkish border guards while attempting to cross into Turkey from the village of Azmarin in northwest of Idlib.

After crossing the border, the border guards arrested five civilians, including a girl, along with the two young men. They transferred them to a security center located near Azmarin, in preparation for their transfer to a detention center in Antakya, a province in southwest Turkey, the source added.

The Turkish forces took their iris scans and finger prints to prevent them from entering Turkey, the exclusive source said.

It is expected that they will be deported back to Syrian territories through Bab al-Hawa border crossing, according to the source.

Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite their families or get a job opportunity to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions people suffer from in northwestern Syria.

SNA arrests Kurds for not joining protests in Syria’s Afrin
Aug 21, 2023
The Suleiman Shah Brigade (al-Amshat), affiliated with the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), raided houses of Kurds in the countryside of Afrin, northwestern Syria. They arrested people who refused to protest against US sanctions on SNA leaders.

Sources told North Press that armed militants of the al-Amshat arrested 18 individuals in the towns of Mabata and Sheikh al-Hadid and forcibly evacuated the families of detainees from 10 houses hours after relatives were detained.

On August 17, the US Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) targeted the Suleiman Shah Brigade and the Hamza Division, as well as their leaders, Mohammad Hussein al-Jassem, his younger brother Walid, and Sayf Boulad Abu Bakr, for committing serious human rights abuses against those residing in Afrin region, particularly the Kurds.

The sources added, the SNA factions forced the locals to participate in protests against US sanctions. They charged the detainees with supporting the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

Iran unveils armed drone, says it could potentially reach Israel
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
Getting to Israel is the easy part — nothing between but air. But Israel itself has that three-layer active defense, and of course the Israel Air Force does like to take a hand. But y’all have fun dreaming your dreams, O mad Mullahs.
Iran's Defense Ministry unveiled a drone on Tuesday resembling America's armed MQ-9 Reaper, claiming that the aircraft is capable of staying airborne for 24 hours and has the range to reach the country's archenemy Israel.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency published a photograph of the drone, called the Mohajer-10, on display at a conference marking Defense Industry Day with what appeared to be smoke-machine fog underneath it.
and lasers and an REO Speedwagon soundtrack...
"Mohajer" means "immigrant" in Farsi and has been a drone line manufactured by the Islamic Theocratic Republic since 1985.

IRNA said the drone is able to fly up to 24,000 feet with a speed of 210 kph (130 mph), carrying a bomb payload of up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds). It also said the drone could carry electronic surveillance equipment and a camera. Iran's hard-line President Ebrahim Raisi, a protégé of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
, also viewed the drone on Tuesday.

"Today, we can firmly introduce Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
as an advanced and technologic nation to the world," Raisi said in comments aired on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
He reiterated Iran's stance about friendly relations with "all countries in the world," adding that Iran's armed forces will cut off any hand that will reaches out in an attempt to invade Iran, state TV reported.
Nobody wants to invade you. They'll just smite your ass and leave
The News Agency that Dare Not be Named could not immediately verify the claims about the drone's capabilities, though an arm of state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
shared a video of it taking off from a runway. Long-range drones like the Reaper also require ground stations and satellite communications.

#2  Seriously, REO Speedwagon?
(I'm guessing "Riding the storm out".)

On a further note, when does an armed suicide drone become a cruise missile? Cause they're like doing the same thing the same way. Is there a speed requirement or something?
