Afghanistan
Cornerstone of a Commercial, Cultural Complex for Women Laid in Bamyan Province
[KhaamaPress] Provincial officials in Bamyan province laid the cornerstone of a commercial, cultural and entertainment complex for women worth 56 million Afghanis in the center of the province earlier today.

The foundation of the commercial, cultural and entertainment complex named "Family Park" was laid on Monday, June 5, in the presence of Bamyan governor, provincial officials, representatives of NGOs, women and journalists in the Essa Khan area of the province.

The United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will fund the project which includes a vocational training center, a mini-market with 20 shops and a recreational place. The exclusive complex for women will be completed by the end of the year, according to UNHCR officials.

Mawlavi Abdullah Sarhadi, governor of Bamyan province appreciated the UNHCR for funding this complex for women in the province and said the situation is ready for the implementation of development projects to be conducted by NGOs in Bamyan province.

He further added that all national and international organizations can implement their development and infrastructure projects by maintaining neutrality and non-political affiliations.

Sarhadi said that women’s commercial activities have increased quite well over the past two years. With the inauguration of this complex, the business activities of women entrepreneurs in the province will grow many times, he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the gondola was dangling by a single thread of rope.

Jack! Cynthia cried. I just realized I'm afraid of heights! I don't even like high heels!...

Yumiko Takashima, Deputy Chief of UNHCR said, "This is an immense pleasure to see Afghan women standing alongside men, and we are witnessing the implementation of such a fundamental project to support women in this province."

The fencing of this complex was completed last year. With the cooperation of the provincial authorities and relevant groups, we have been able to initiate the work on a mini-market consisting of 20 shops and a vocational training center, which will be completed by the end of this year, Takashima said.
Will they be able to complete it before the Talibs burn it down?

Afghan Refugees Still Lack Safe Pathways in the EU: Report
[KhaamaPress] The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has published a report entitled "Two years on-Afghanistan still lack pathways to safety in the EU" that details the shortcomings in the protection provided to Afghan refugees since 2021.

Since the regime change in Afghanistan in 2021, the need for protection and humanitarian assistance has increased. Million people have been compelled to flee their homes, often using dangerous routes.

According to the IRC report, Afghans comprise the third-largest refugee group worldwide. Afghan refugees’ resettlement needs in the region have sharply risen, almost tripling yearly, from 96,000 in 2022 to over 273,000 in 2023.

Since August 2021, European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
member states have made public commitments to assist Afghans at risk access pathways to Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
to increase humanitarian admissions, family reunification, and other protection means.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
only a small number of these plans have materialized. Several challenges, including narrow eligibility criteria, strict evidentiary requirements, and low processing capacity, limit EU efforts’ scale, pace, and progress to bring Afghans to safety.

Meanwhile,
...back at the railroad tracks, Little Nell tried to kick her bound feet and scream post the snotty handkerchief Scarface Al had stuff into her mouth...
Afghan refugees fled to neighbouring countries, including The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
, Iran, and Pakistain. These neighbouring countries struggle with political, economic, and environmental issues, affecting refugees, including Afghans.

The report revealed that Afghan refugees in Turkey had restricted access to healthcare, education, legal assistance and welfare and enforced their repatriation. At the same time, some neighbouring countries have stepped up security at their borders to prevent Afghans from entering.

Apart from the lack of safe pathways reaching to EU, asylum seekers and refugees often face the threat of pushbacks or forcible returns once they reach European countries.

Refugees from Afghanistan are particularly likely to report these violent mostly peaceful acts, obstacles to fair and thorough asylum procedures, and lengthy stays in inhumane detention-like facilities after arrival. These containment measures have terrible consequences: In the year leading up to March 2023, 92% of Afghans assisted by the IRC’s mental health teams in Greece displayed signs of anxiety, and 86% of them displayed signs of depression.

The report stress that the EU institutions and states should urgently reaffirm their commitment to protecting Afghans at risk and draw the lessons from this response.

Islamic Emirate Leader Meets With Provincial Education Leaders
[ToloNews] The leader of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada, held a meeting with heads of the provincial education departments, said the Islamic Emirate’s front man Zabiullah Mujahid.

According to Mujahid, Mawlawi Akhundzada stressed the need for the extension of education to remote areas as well as the improvement of educational quality.

"In the meeting, (the Islamic Emirate leader) had some instructions for all heads of the provincial education departments aimed at promoting better teaching, and for education be extended to areas where there is no access to education yet," he said.

The head of education in Parwan, who was one of the participants at the meeting, said that he stressed the need to finalize curriculum for primary schools.

"The curriculum of the school and seminary should be the same, so that the distance between the schools and seminaries is eliminated," said Mohammad Hassan Haqqani, head of the Parwan education department.

Mujahid said that the reopening of schools for girls in grade 7-12 was not discussed in this meeting.
Unexpectedly.
"This issue is, I think, not related to the directors. That issue belongs to the religious holy mans, to make decisions about it," he said.

Female students beyond grade six have been deprived of school since the Islamic Emirate came to power.

"I cannot study anymore but I should be allowed to," said Bahara, a student.

The closing of schools for female students above grade 6 has faced widespread reactions at the national and international level.

Somalia parades Al-Shabaab defectors as war intensifies

The Somali National Army [highest-everaded the highest ever number of al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
defectors in Somalia, just days after the snuffies overran a Ugandan People's Defense Forces [UPDF] Forward Operating Base in Bulo Marer, south of Mogadishu, the capital of the Horn of Africa nation.
State media reported that at least 10 snuffies surrendered to the national army on Monday within Baidoa, the regional administrative capital of Southwest state. This marks the largest single surrender in the country, state media noted.

"10 al-Shabaab members who surrendered to Somali security forces have been displayed in Baidoa, today. This marks the largest single surrender from the terrorist group in recent times," thestate media reported, while lauding members of security forces for their role in degrading the group.

"The defectors, including Mohammed Amin who surrendered yesterday in Harardere district, are citing that they are benefiting from the President’s pardon," added the state media, while acknowledging immense contributions from local and international forces in pressing the group.

The government of Somalia is preparing for the second phase of operations against al-Shabaab snuffies in Western Somalia, with Jubaland and Southwest states being on the line. The government has already asked for reinforcement from non-ATMIS troops, from Æthiopia, Kenya and Djibouti who will assist in the crackdown.

According to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the troops who are not attached to the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] will only assist Somalia for three months when the operation is expected to end. Alreada y, ATMIS is planning drawdown of troops from Somalia, with the first 2000 set to leave the country this month.

The Somali National Army is scheduled to take security responsibilities from the foreign troops, but there are concerns about their preparedness. Somalia believes that the second phase will further dismantle the bases of the snuffies in Jubaland and Southwest where they have been antagonizing locals.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Arrest extended for lawyer of Belkharoevs in case of threat to prosecutor
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A court in Moscow has extended by three months the arrest of the Belkharoyevs'
also known as Batalkhadzhins, they’re followers of Sheikh Batal-Khadji (also known as Batal-haji Belkharoyev), revered Sufi Islam teacher during the early part of the 20th century in Ingushetia and other parts of the North Caucasus. They appear to engage in the usual misbehaviours common to the region...
lawyer, Timur Idalov, who is suspected of threatening a prosecutor with violence.

The " Caucasian Knot " has reported that on April 12 Moscow lawyer Timur Idalov was detained and then arrested until June 10 . He is suspected of threatening violence against a representative of the authorities during a court session (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to investigators, on October 3, 2022, the lawyer, while in the courtroom, expressed "threats of violence against the public prosecutor." Lawyer Murad Musaev called the accusation "sucked out of thin air."

"He had an ordinary skirmish with the public prosecutor in the courtroom, and now, six months later, they decided to qualify the remark he made then as a threat," Murad Musayev said. According to him, referring to the prosecutor, Timur Idalov just said: "Are you [the character of the Italian series about the mafia] Commissioner Cattani? That's how he was shot."

The Presnensky Court of Moscow has extended Timur Idalov's arrest until September 12, SOTAvision reports today.

At the same time, Timur Idalov himself asked the court to release him on bail of a million rubles or on bail, according to a publication in the telegram channel of the publication.

Recall that Timur Idalov represents the interests of the Belkharoevs in the case of the murder of the head of the Ingush Center "E" Ibragim Eldzharkiev. In 2021, the head of the Accounts Chamber of Ingushetia, Mustafa Belkharoev, complained that after the detention of his son Alikhan in the case of the murder of the head of the regional center, he was subjected to severe torture. Alikhan Belkharoev himself spoke about torture. After that, the security forces conducted two searches in the house of Mustafa Belkharoev in two months. Lawyer Timur Idalov called these searches revenge on the father and son Belkharoev.

The head of the Ingush Center for Emergency Medicine, Ibragim Eldzharkiev, and his brother, a Moscow hospital doctor, Akhmed Eldzharkiev, were shot dead in Moscow on November 2, 2019. Businessman Khasan Polonkoev has been named as the head of the group involved in the murder. Eldzharkiev's murder was recognized as a terrorist attack. In March 2021, investigative actions in the case  were completed.

Members of the Batal-hadji brotherhood, which has great influence in modern Ingushetia, are called Batalkhadzhins or Belkharoys. Batal-haji Belkhoroev is an Ingush sheikh, the founder of one of the Kadiri branches (virds), a follower of sheikh Kunta-haji, according to the reference of the "Caucasian Knot" "Batal-haji and his followers."

Australia's Most Decorated War Veteran 'Responsible for Murder': Judge
[ToloNews] Australia's most decorated soldier was "complicit in and responsible for the murder" of three Afghan men on deployment, a judge said, elaborating on his finding against the former SAS special forces corporal in a blockbuster defamation trial.

Ben Roberts-Smith, holder of the Victoria Cross and other top military honours, was also "not an honest and reliable witness in ... many areas" and a bully toward other Australian soldiers, Federal Court Judge Anthony Besanko said in his full judgement released on Monday.

Besanko on Thursday threw out Roberts-Smith's defamation case against three Australian newspapers which had accused him of unlawful killings in Afghanistan. Besanko said the media outlets had proven substantial truth in their reporting, ending a case which lifted the veil of secrecy over the elite SAS.

Australian civil courts require a lower threshold to prove accusations than criminal courts do. Roberts-Smith has not been charged with any offences and has not commented since the ruling. His lawyer was not immediately available for comment.
"I can say no more!"
Roberts-Smith has since quit his job as a television executive.

Besanko delayed releasing reasons for his judgement until Monday to allow the Australian government time to ensure it did not inadvertently divulge national security secrets.

"I have found that the applicant (Roberts-Smith) was complicit in and responsible for the murder of EKIA56 ... in 2009 and the murder of Ali Jan at Darwan on 11 September 2012 and the murder of the Afghan male at Chinartu on 12 October 2012," Besanko said in his 736-page civil court judgment.

Roberts-Smith was accused by the newspapers of ordering a lower-ranking soldier to shoot dead an "older Afghan male", identified in the case as EKIA56, to "blood the rookie", he said.

In addition, Besanko said: "I find that in a compound in Chinartu ... the applicant, through an interpreter ordered (an un-named person) to shoot an Afghan male who was under detention".

A soldier who was there "shot the Afghan male in circumstances amounting to murder. The applicant (Roberts-Smith) was complicit in and responsible for murder," the judgment said.

Besanko found Roberts-Smith engaged in a "campaign of bullying" against another Australian soldier, including what he called a "death threat" when Roberts-Smith said: "if your performance doesn't improve on our next patrol, you're going to get a bullet in the back of the head."

He also said Roberts-Smith was not a reliable witness in one of the country's longest-running defamation cases and had reasons to lie.

"The applicant has motives to lie, being a financial motive to support his claim for damages in these proceedings, a motive to restore his reputation which he contends has been destroyed by the publication of the articles and significantly, a motive to resist findings against him which may affect whether further action is taken against him," Besanko said wrote.

"I find that the applicant was not an honest and reliable witness in ... many areas," he added.

Roberts-Smith, 44, was seen as a national hero, with his portrait hanging in the Australian War Memorial, for his actions during six tours of Afghanistan from 2006 to 2012 and military citations. A 2020 report found credible evidence that members of Australia's Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) killed dozens of unarmed prisoners in the lengthy Afghan war. Only one soldier has been charged.

The Australian government is looking for "a way forward" to compensate families of victims of alleged war crimes in Afghanistan, the defense minister told legal advocates, the Guardian reported.

Officials continue to warn about the complexity of the compensation issue, one of the key outstanding recommendations from the Brereton inquiry into alleged war crimes by Australian special forces soldiers, according to the Guardian.

TOLOnews reached out to some family members of the victims in Uruzgan provinces, where the Australian soldiers were settled under the command of ISAF/Resolute Support forces.

The residents claim that hundreds of people were either killed or maimed in night raids being conducted by Australian forces in Uruzgan.

Islamic State-linked Australians held in Syria launch repatriation bid
[IsraelTimes] Save the Children Australia aid group files case on behalf of nine women and 17 children languishing at al-Hol and Roj camps in Kurdish-controlled region

Groups of Australian women and kiddies stranded in detention camps in Syria launched a joint legal bid on Monday to be repatriated.

The 17 children and nine women have spent years languishing in the al-Hol and Roj camps in Kurdish-controlled northeastern Syria, following the 2019 collapse of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

In many cases, the Australian citizens are the wives, sons and daughters of IS fighters, who forced their families to live in the jihadist group’s self-proclaimed caliphate.

Aid group Save the Children Australia filed the case on behalf of the women and kiddies, saying the government was "morally and legally" obliged to repatriate them.

"After spending four years living in hard conditions, this legal case was not the first choice of action by these Australian citizens in Syria," STCA chief executive Matt Tinkler said.

"Every day these Australian children are left in Syria is another day their safety and wellbeing are at risk."

In October last year, the Australian government repatriated four women and 13 children from the camps.

Tinkler said there were initially hopes more rescue missions would follow, but these had slowly faded in the face of government "inaction."

"Australia’s unwillingness to bring the remaining children home is a source of international shame," he said.

The Australia-based families of those still stuck in Syria said they had spent four years anxiously waiting to be reunited.

"The repatriations last October raised their hopes and ours," they said in a joint statement. "It showed that the government could repatriate our family members, who are all Australian citizens, and we still hope that work will continue."

"They are our loved ones. They are Australians. They are sick. They are in danger. We must bring them to safety now."

The issue of repatriations has been a politically contentious one in Australia, where the conservative opposition party has repeatedly cited national security concerns when arguing against the returns.

UN nuclear chief rebuffs Israeli criticism on Iran, says agency ‘very fair but firm’
I suppose it could not be politics when the members of the organization are personally afraid of physical harm should they openly rule against Iran... that is merely cowardice.
[IsraelTimes] The ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency will "never politicize" its work in Iran, the head of the UN nuclear watchdog says , insisting after Israel’s prime minister accused it of capitulating to Iranian pressure that his agency has been "very fair but firm."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comments came after a confidential report from the IAEA last week said that its Sherlocks had closed their investigation of traces of man-made uranium found at Marivan, near the city of Abadeh, about 525 kilometers (325 miles) southeast of Tehran.

Analysts had repeatedly linked Marivan to a possible secret Iranian military nuclear program and accused Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
of conducting high-explosives tests there in the early 2000s.

"Iran is continuing to lie to the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency. The agency’s capitulation to Iranian pressure is a black stain on its record," Netanyahu told his cabinet in televised remarks yesterday.

"If the IAEA becomes a political organization, then its oversight activity in Iran is without significance, as will be its reports on Iran’s nuclear activity," Netanyahu said.

Asked today about that criticism, IAEA Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi says that his agency’s work is "neutral, it is impartial, it is technical."
It’s taqqiya. Or the international, secular equivalent.
"We will always say things as they are," Grossi tells news hounds on the first day of a regular meeting in Vienna of the IAEA board of governors.

Grossi adds that he would "never enter into a polemic" with the head of government of a member of the IAEA. "We never politicize. We have our standards and apply them always," he said.

"The politicization is in the eye of the beholder," Grossi added.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Egyptian cop who killed IDF troops is named, said to have griped about border duty
Definitely Sudden Jihad Syndrome by a Gaza-lover.
[IsraelTimes] Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, 22, from Cairo, walked five kilometers from his guard post in Egypt and climbed up a cliff to reach the emergency gate into Israel carrying combat knives, food, a Koran, and magazines for his assault rifle.
And nobody in his command noticed he was missing?
An Egyptian policeman accused of killing three Israeli soldiers in an attack on the border on Saturday morning was named Monday as Mohammed Salah Ibrahim, 22, from Cairo. According to Arabic-language media reports, Ibrahim was drafted into the Egyptian army in June 2022 and stationed on the Israel border as a policeman. He was reportedly set to end his service in the near future.
and he did
Egyptian reports cited by Israel’s Kan public broadcaster said Ibrahim had complained several times about his military service, including recently, and had gone absent without leave for 18 days at one point. The reports said Ibrahim had suffered mental distress following the death of a comrade and felt the issue had not been taken seriously. One of Ibrahim’s friends claimed he was trying to get a medical exemption from his service due to physical problems, according to the reports cited by Kan.

After his death in a shootout with IDF soldiers, Ibrahim was found to be carrying two combat knives — which he had used to breach the barrier — as well as food, a Koran, and six magazines for his assault rifle, indicating he had planned a larger attack.
Ibrahim is believed by the Israel Defense Forces to have acted alone in the deadly attack on Saturday. Egypt has sought to distance itself from the policeman, with Egyptian officials saying they had been unaware of his intentions, according to Kan.

The IDF and the Egyptian army were jointly probing the attacker’s motives. Egyptian defense officials visited the scene of the attack on Saturday afternoon and met with senior IDF officials, the military said.

After his death in a shootout with IDF soldiers, Ibrahim was found to be carrying two combat knives — which he had used to breach the barrier — as well as food, a Koran, and six magazines for his assault rifle, indicating he had planned a larger attack.

Hebrew-language media claimed the copy of the Koran indicated Ibrahim’s possible religious extremism.

According to the Egyptian reports, one of Ibrahim’s friends raised the possibility that Salah had wanted to avenge the death of his comrade.
By killing lotsa Joooos.
During the May 2021 conflict between Israel and the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, terror group in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip, Ibrahim expressed solidarity with the Paleostinians on Facebook, writing in a post: "Allah stands with Paleostine," with a hashtag reading: "#GazaUnderAttack."

Israel handed over Ibrahim’s body to Egypt for burial on Monday, according to Hebrew media.

Staff Sgt. Ori Yitzhak Iluz, 20, Staff Sgt. Ohad Dahan, 20, and Sgt. Lia Ben Nun, 19, killed by Ibrahim on Saturday, were buried Sunday at military cemeteries in their hometowns. The three were combat soldiers in the mixed-gender light infantry Bardelas and Caracal battalions, tasked with guarding the border.

According to the IDF’s initial probe, the Egyptian policeman infiltrated through the border through an emergency gate early Saturday morning.

The small gate — held shut with just zip ties —
*Boggle*
is used by the IDF to cross the border when necessary, in coordination with the Egyptian army. The Egyptian army has claimed Ibrahim crossed the border to chase after suspects in a drug smuggling incident.

Ibrahim walked some five kilometers (3 miles) from his guard post in Egypt and climbed up a cliff to reach the emergency gate, which indicated his knowledge of the area and the security barrier. He cut through the zip ties with a combat knife, opened the small entrance to Israel, and walked around 150 meters to the guard post where Iluz and Ben Nun were.
Not even close to the actions of a minor military policeman accidentally mistaking IDF troops for the cross-border smugglers he was supposedly chasing.
Ben Nun and Iluz had begun a 12-hour shift together at 9 p.m. on Friday night at the military post on the Egyptian border. At around 2:30 a.m., troops foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs over the border, around three kilometers (1.8 miles) north of Ben Nun and Iluz’s position, seizing contraband with an estimated value of NIS 1.5 million ($400,000).

At 3 a.m., the smuggling incident was wrapped up; and at 4:15 a.m., troops radioed in to the guard post where Ben Nun and Iluz were located, who responded that everything was okay.

There are frequent attempts to smuggle drugs from Egypt into Israel. Egyptian smugglers generally operate by tossing contraband over the border to Bedouin Israelis, who then sell the drugs in Israel. The smugglers mostly traffic in marijuana from grow houses in the Sinai Peninsula, but sometimes harder drugs like heroin are smuggled in as well.

The Egyptian policeman was believed to have snuck up to the guard post and opened fire sometime between 6 and 7 a.m., killing Ben Nun and Iluz. After the soldiers did not answer calls on the radio on Saturday morning, shortly before their shift was set to end at 9 a.m., an officer went to the scene and discovered the pair dead near the post.

The pair had not fired their weapons, according to the IDF’s investigation, indicating that they were caught completely by surprise by the attacker. The military was looking into the possibility that they had fallen asleep or were otherwise not paying attention to the border.

The IDF was probing why there was no alert following the policeman’s infiltration into Israel and examining the security arrangements surrounding the various small gates in the fence, as well as why Israeli commanders were unaware two soldiers had been killed for at least two hours.

After the officer discovered Ben Nun and Iluz’s bodies at around 9 a.m., military officials declared a terror incident in the area and began searches.

Shortly after 11 a.m., an army drone identified the attacker hiding behind a rock formation some 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) from the border.

The attacker shot up a group of soldiers approaching the area — some 200 meters away — fatally hitting Dahan. Several minutes later, another group of soldiers closed in on the Egyptian, killing him. One non-commissioned officer was lightly maimed in the second clash, which occurred before noon.

Top political and military leaders have stressed the shootings were not a reflection of the ties between the countries, which have grown increasingly close on security matters since their 1979 peace treaty formally ended decades of armed enmity between them.

The IDF said the Egyptian army was fully cooperating with the investigation.

IDF chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi on Sunday appointed Maj. Gen. Nimrod Aloni to lead an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, with a focus on the "systemic" failures and the "perception of defense of peaceful borders."

Egypt, Israel agree to increase surveillance towers on borders: Sources to Al-Arabiya

[AlAhram] Egypt and Israel have agreed to increase surveillance cameras and towers on the border, Saudi TV channel al-Arabiya reported on Sunday, citing sources.

One Egyptian border security personnel and three members of the Israeli forces responsible for border security were killed in the early hours of Saturday. The incident also left two other Israeli soldiers injured.

It all started when an Egyptian border security personnel, chasing drug smugglers, crossed the border between Egypt and Israel, only to be killed in the ensuing crossfire, according to a statement by the Spokesman of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Gharib Abdel-Hafez Gharib, on Saturday evening.

Gharib noted that operations to search and secure the area have not ceased and that all the legal proceedings relevant to the incident were being taken.

In a phone call, Egypt’s Minister of Defence and Military Production, General Mohammed Zaki, discussed Saturday the circumstances that led to the incident with Israeli Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant.

The two ministers also discussed coordination to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future, according to the Egyptian military front man.
Update from the Times of Israel at 8:45 a.m. ET. Note the tone, dear Reader.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the phone Tuesday with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi in the aftermath of the slaying of three Israel Defense forces soldiers by an Egyptian policeman who crossed the border.

According to a readout from the Prime Minister’s Office, Sissi expressed his “deep condolences” over the attack and committed to a “joint and exhaustive investigation.”

However, a spokesman for the Egyptian presidential palace did not mention an expression of condolences, instead simply saying that the conversation “addressed the shooting incident at the Egyptian-Israel border on Saturday, June 3, 2023, that led to the deaths of border security personnel.”

The spokesperson, Ahmed Fahmy, also noted that the phone call was initiated by Netanyahu.

“The president and prime minister of Israel have affirmed the importance of full coordination to uncover all the circumstances of the incident,” he added in a brief statement.

Both sides affirmed their commitment to upholding the two countries’ peace treaty and security coordination.

Water reservoir to feed Syria’s Kobani to be connected within week
Any bets on how long this lasts before Turkish forces or their SNA catspaws destroy the thing, dear Reader, as they have Kurdish olive groves and Kurdish cities?
[NPASyria] An official in the Water Directorate of Kobani, northern Syria, said on Monday building works of a water reservoir have finished on Mashtanour hill and would be connected to the water system within a week to feed about a thousand houses in the city.

The reservoir has a capacity of 1,400 cubic meters of water.

Masoud Bozi, co-chair of Water Directorate of Kobani of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), told North Press that they finished the construction of the reservoir and pumping water trials. In the next few days, they will connect the reservoir to the water system of the city.

The Water Directorate started construction on the Mashtanour hill on October 17, 2022 and was scheduled to complete within six months.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
the earthquake that hit the region on Feb. 6, the Ottoman Turkish shelling against the city, and the frost delayed the implementation of the construction of the reservoir from April to June, Bozi added.

He noted that the Directorate will connect it to the water system in the city within a week to supply water to four neighborhoods that did not have access to water during summer.

The project cost $211,000 after expanding the reservoir’s capacity from 1,000 cubic meters to 1,400 cubic meters, according to Bozi.

Bozi previously stated that the cost of building the reservoir with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters was estimated at $ 181,000.

The Directorate previously stated that the capacity of the reservoir that feeds Kobani with water in the al-Izaa area is 10,000 cubic meters and pumps water to neighborhoods once every two days.

Semalka crossing with KRI opened after 26 days of closure
[NPASyria] Semalka-Faysh Khabour border crossing, between northeastern Syria and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), announced on Monday on its official account on Facebook opening the crossing.

Ahmad Baz, official in the administration of the crossing, told North Press in a phone call that the crossing was opened.

On May 11, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) closed the crossing, prohibiting commercial traffic, without providing detailed explanation for the closure or setting a date for its reopening.

The closure of the Semalka crossing has caused a shortage of infant formula and other basic materials, causing an increase in their prices.

Work will be resumed on three days of each week, which are Saturday, Monday and Wednesday. Humanitarian cases also will be allowed to pass the crossing, according to the source.

SDF arrests 21 ISIS suspects in May
[NPASyria] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported that they arrested 21 ISIS suspects and the death of another in May.
May was a busy month.
The SDF media center reported that it conducted 12 operations against the organization, four of which were joint operations with the US-led Global Coalition and the Sulaymaniyah-based Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

SDF says that the suspects it arrested were collecting so-called ’zakat’ taxes from local business owners. In addition, they possessed large quantities of weapons and ammunition, and were working in smuggling ISIS members out of Hawl camp, the report says.

SDF security operations in May were distributed across al-Hasakah, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Manbij regions.

Furthermore, the military force dismantled a number of Ottoman Turkish spy networks in the region, which the SDF says was "targeting our fighters and civilians," including by planting bombs in return for money.

Drug trade in south Syria used for Assad gov’t extortion, financial gain
[NPASyria] Located on the southern and southeastern Syrian borders and adjoining the Kingdom of Jordan, Suwayda’s location is the reason behind attempts to control it and turn it into a lawless zone fit for exporting narcotics to neighboring countries in the past years.

Drug smuggling operations topped news recently when the village of al-Shaab, in the far southeast of Suwayda Governorate, was shelled on May 8. News agencies speculated that it was a Jordanian Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
that resulted in the death of Marei Ramthan, one of the men in charge of the narcotic trade and smuggling in the Governorate.

This was followed by a change in public sentiment, which rejected the export of instability — namely, the smuggling of drugs and weapons from the southern border to neighboring countries.

An eyewitness near the border in south Suwayda told North Press that he recently saw Jordanian border guards positioned along the border remove the defensive earthwork, starting from the southern border near the city of ar-Ramtha, in Jordan, all the way to Gharabi region, in the far southeast on the border.

The source believes the reason for the removal of the earthwork is to "pursue smugglers inside Syrian territories, too."
Uh oh. Somebody’s gonna be in trouble!
An informed source told North Press that the list of names of all those who still work in drug dealing in Suwayda "is now in possession of Jordanian border guards."
If it were Mossad, they’d already be waking up dead in their beds, but Jordan is a different story.
DECLINE IN DRUG DEALING
An activist from Suwayda, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that they observed a "visible decline in the drug trade after the death of Marie Ramthan;" he believes it is due to the "fear and regression of the remaining smugglers."

The activist does not think that the focus would shift to internal promotion among the youth and adolescents in Suwayda despite its prevalence, but that the large quantities previously smuggled "cannot be disposed of internally." He said, "We are talking about billions of captagon pills and tons of Hashish."
With that volume flowing through, all those locals inclined to become users would already have succumbed.
EXTORTION CARD
For his part, Hafez Qarqut, a journalist, says that smuggling operations in southern Syria have "declined," but "they are not over...and captagon pills will continue to be used as a form of extortion against neighboring countries."
Extortion? I wonder what the word was in the original Arabic.
He noted that the clear decrease in smuggling operations "came after the Assad regime pledged to control narcotic smuggling operations from Syria to Jordan."

"The [Syrian] regime is behind smuggling operations through gangs and militias linked to the regime and Hezbollah. Hence it will be a gesture of goodwill by the regime," he noted.

"The regime and its allies will continue to blackmail the international community and neighboring countries to stop drug smuggling operations in return for money. In either case it is winning, whether by selling drugs or accepting to stop the trade and smuggling," he added.

Qarqut ruled out there being any "seriousness" from international community actors to eliminate the drug trade."

The international community knows that the "al-Assad regime" takes advantage of the dangerous drug issue that aims to disintegrate societies and the youth," he said.

Drug trade is overwhelming southern Syria, as the price of a kilogram of hashish varies between 50,000-75,000 Syrian Pounds (SYP, equals $7-10), and a captagon pill costs only 500 SYP ($0.068).

The Gulf countries, topped by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, are the main destination for these narcotics materials, according to data issued by the Jordanian authorities.

Several international reports, headed by the US Department of the Treasury, accused the Syrian government and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia of running large drug trafficking networks in this border area, as well as other Syrian regions.
