SDF arrests 21 ISIS suspects in May
2023-06-06
[NPASyria] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported that they arrested 21 ISIS suspects and the death of another in May.
May was a busy month.
The SDF media center reported that it conducted 12 operations against the organization, four of which were joint operations with the US-led Global Coalition and the Sulaymaniyah-based Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

SDF says that the suspects it arrested were collecting so-called ’zakat’ taxes from local business owners. In addition, they possessed large quantities of weapons and ammunition, and were working in smuggling ISIS members out of Hawl camp, the report says.

SDF security operations in May were distributed across al-Hasakah, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Manbij regions.

Furthermore, the military force dismantled a number of Ottoman Turkish spy networks in the region, which the SDF says was "targeting our fighters and civilians," including by planting bombs in return for money.
