4 I was channel surfing at the Sheraton in Bishkek at 3 AM and ran across a channel with the game. It was awesome! The riders tuck the carcass between their leg and the horse then ride hell for leather towards the goal. That way they can use both hands as they battle their way across the field. In the game I watched the goals were two 3 foot tall round stone structures (think of an old well). You had to toss the goat in the well to score - that was my impression anyway. The riders used whips on the opponent's horses/faces/etc, used their horses to knock the other fellows horses down and did all possible to snatch the goat away from the fellow holding it. When the goat legs get torn off the fellow with the largest chunk "has the ball." AND - the riders were wearing shirts with the name of their sponsors on it! And billboards shown in the backdrop as well. Later saw other versions where it's not a real goat carcass, just a stuffed one but that seemed a lot less authentic.
