9 This bit from President Trump’s announcement is interesting:

The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as “THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT," but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World.

13 An interesting thought, Dopey Photch2701. It strikes me that President Trump’s wording suggests any country/shipowner can get out of paying that 20% if they pony up ships to guard convoys going through the Strait instead of leaving the work (and expense) to Uncle Sugar.

Could anti-missile teams hire themselves out for the run through the Strait like anti-pirate teams do on certain areas? Surely there are ways for cargo ships to harden themselves that aren’t nearly as expensive as becoming actual warships…
