3 High-trust western society meets the third world low trust society migrant dregs, exactly what you would expect if you were intellectually honest. The lefty morons see them as victims and those in need of rescue and enlightenment. The third-world refuse see the West as marks, suckers and easy pickings.

Exactly why you vet those you allow to enter, and even more so if you allow a few to stay.

4 Because of where I live I know a lot of non-citizens, many of whom I expect are not here legally. I actually feel for them; they are good, productive people who would make good Americans if we would fix the immigration system. For decades we have strangled the legal immigration apparatus while ignoring the illegal one, which is exactly backwards. I think we will need some form of amnesty again, much as I hate to admit it. I would set requirements at 1) no criminal acts other than the one immigration violation and maybe a speeding ticket, 2) documented presence for 5+ years, 3) documented gainful employment for at least 60% of that time, with potential extenuating factors of legal resident immediate family (parent, child, sibling) fulfilling the same requirements.
