So they claimed to have fired 70+/- staffers.

Likely doing it in hopes of restoring their $$$$$$ sources,
by playing like they did a house cleaning of staffers. Staffers they claimed to have found hidden within their agency with a different agenda than their stated UN goals.

But say, f the 70 were HAMAS?
Wouldn't they have offered to quit to continue in another role for HAMAS?
