2 1. Absent a 'real' degree (STEM mostly) almost all entry level jobs pay for crap and most won't even cover expenses.
2. The jobs formerly done by those under 18 are generally being taken by adults, including retirees
3. Most of the young don't know how to work hard, they weren't taught that in school.
4. Skilled trade jobs require hard work and I suspect many of the young have been conditioned to think those jobs are beneath them.
5. Improvements in manufacturing and automation has reduced the number of employees needed.

3 Tennessee has really pushed STEM and physical skills in its secondary schools. Read recently that the unemployment rate is under 5% in all counties.

Yesterday, in line at a stoplight, I was bemused by the volume of the rap blasting from an open window nearby.
My initial impulse had been to chuck in a grenade.

7 When I was in the dorms and they would blast the rap music so I could hear it through my walls, I put on the Royal Scots Dragoon Pipe and Drum band. NOTHING drowns out bag pipes. 5 minutes of that, and their music was at a much more reasonable volume. It only took twice for them to learn the lesson.

as of April 2026, California unemployment rate was about 5.3% in the 5 worst in the USA.

as of about that time LA-Long Beach- Anaheim was at about 4.8%, which was in the worst 20% of Metro areas
