1 I hate to be logical about the holocaust but burning bodies is the most efficient way to decrease the spread of disease and parasites.

Even today in the American prison system, the unclaimed dead are almost universally cremated.

Having huge cemeteries that require manual labor does not make a lot of sense to me. Unless you have spare capacity and muscle to dig unmarked graves. But even then, you have to store the dead before burial, and most of them were diseased and parasitical. Which in closed high occupancy environments, like camps, you do not want contagions lingering around.

War is ugly.

In the death camps they didn’t care if extra people died of diseases beyond those sent through the showers — they were just consuming resources in the meantime, so killer diseases were not a concern.

In the work camps, the idea was to work the inmates to death, so if they died along the way, that freed up space for more energetic replacements collected from further east — the original plan was to kill off all the Slavs after the first-round undesirables (Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, etc) were cleared away. In the end they planned on a couple hundred million dead over a few decades, one way or another.

So yes, cremation was more efficient, but that sufficed without the need or desire to prevent disease among the residents.
