4 Good question, TW. I am not informed as to their motives, * but their actions speak for themselves. The case against Roberts Smith was built around the testimony of some Afghanis in the local area who were paid and coached by Channel 9 operatives. The likelihood that they were Taliban , whose comrades BRS and his unit were engaging, is obvious, though never raised at trial or by the media.
The trial was a 3 way zoom call- court and accused in Australia, witnesses speaking Pushtu presumably, in Afghanistan (with Nine in the room?) and an interpreter- in Canada!
* Aside from the fact that this is a big, lucrative, ongoing story, into which Nine has inserted itself ab initio. Which it has a long history of doing. It is Australias largest media company, and politically invulnerable.
I hope this helps- I have not paid much attention to public affairs in my benighted nation for a long time, it’s just not bearable, but this case has been particularly egregious.
Ben Roberts- Smith received a Victoria Cross, by the way, which is the highest award for bravery in the British-Australian military system. To the Australian left( his real enemy here) this makes his scalp a great prize.
