1 Vance-led anti-fraud panel shutters 447 hospices in LA: Report

Vice President JD Vance's anti-fraud task force has shut down nearly 500 hospices and home health agencies in Los Angeles alone, Fox News reported.

The figure includes 447 hospices and 23 home health agencies. Collectively, the facilities accounted for roughly $600 million in public funds fraud.

President Donald Trump officially named Vance his "fraud czar" earlier this month, following a series of raids in LA that saw federal authorities target many hospices in the area.

“Where there is fraud, the task force will find it,” a Vance spokesperson told the outlet. “We will not stop until every hard-earned taxpayer dollar goes toward the honest Americans who deserve them.”

That string of operations followed Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Director Dr. Mehmet Oz in January posting videos highlighting the fraudulent hospice problem, linking the issue to the Armenian mafia in the area.

2 Nick Shirley warns California bill could punish people trying to expose government fraud

As California Attorney General Rob Bonta celebrates the dismantling of a $267 million hospice fraud scheme, critics are sounding alarms over proposed legislation they argue could punish people who are trying to expose fraud within their own communities.

"They're trying to make it so citizen journalists or just average Americans who are going about seeing what's happening inside their community — they're trying to scare them from talking about potential fraud taking place inside of these communities," independent journalist Nick Shirley said Tuesday.

California State Assemblywoman Mia Bonta, D-Calif., the attorney general's wife, introduced AB 2624, which is titled "Privacy for Immigration Support Services Providers" or the "Stop Nick Shirley Act" by critics. It would expand existing safety and privacy laws for people working in immigration support services.

6 DeMaio might have his heart in the right place but, with a Democrat super majority in the state legislature, it is highly unlikely that anything good will come of a special legislative investigation.
