1 Mediator is an odd choice of word. Finlandization was Finaland bitching up to the commies without even being asked. It spread throughout NATO and threatened the integrity of the alliance.

2 Finland and Germany may have been "allies" but both used the alliance to further their country's own interests. Finland hoped the Germans would help them regain the land lost during the Winter War and the Germans wanted the Finns to provide enough soldiers to help Germany around Leningrad.
