1 During WWII, every Soviet rifle division and a fair number of German yaeger divisions (light infantry) used horse drawn carts to carry supplies and evacuate wounded.

6 A friend in Australia back in the day, Fritz by name, was a farrier in the Wehrmacht during the advance into Russia. He said, without the great numbers of horses to pull tanks and other machines out of bogs, and to move materiel around boggy country , they would not have moved an inch.
