1 ..largely due to Federal Reserve policies.

The Fed was established to address the problems of the 19th Century 'crashes'. It has presided over a Great Depression, a Great Recession (if the 1930 metrics were employ would have been another Depression), and several hard recessions. It's purpose has not been attained.

4 many of the usual BLS and BEA monthly and quarterly reports are not being done because of the shutdown (as the workers are not 'exempted')

we have lots of other indications

e.g., the Chipotle index where decreasing purchases there indicate an economy retreating

the Starbucks index where the ratio of premium to non premium drinks ordered also is an indication of economic health

also the ADP corporation gives out monthly reports on their data (the latest showed a stable economy)

5 We don't need any more high rise apartment buildings in southern California so a decline in that sector would be a good thing. Maybe with all the illegal aliens self deporting it's getting hard for the developers to find labor for their projects. That'd be a good thing too.
