2 ..The EMALS are working fairly well aboard Ford, but there's another problem no one seems to be talking about: when you push that little red button and launch, EMALS gives off a strong and detectable electronic signature much like a radio signal.

Kinda hard to sneak up on somebody when you're broadcasting the launches every 30 seconds or so.

3 Point of fact: whether catapult or ski jump, the carriers have to, have to, accomidate the aircraft's stall speed in take off. If it's below that, you're just throwing them in the water.
That's why the F-14's had to have swing wings. It was the only way to get the stall speed low enough on such a heavy aircraft.
