5 Road signs are pictographs. They don’t require reading skills. They do require training, experience and a certification test. Lock up the driver and whomever issued tge license.

7 Road signs are pictographs.

Except the ones that say Stop, Yield, One Way, and SR 417. And pictographs are only intelligible when one has the cultural context — what does a circle on a triangle with a couple of lines sticking out mean to someone accustomed to women wrapped up in a burqa?

11 I don't think you can classify the color red as a pictograph but all that red in the sign above looks like a pretty strong warning whether you can read or not.

13 TW, my point is that I can drive in Quebec successfully although GPS is certainly a help. The signs, themselves are recognizable by color shape and consistent meaning the same way signal flags, lights and day shapes are to mariners.

If a tractor trailer driver can’t identify a wrong way sign, they should not have a regular license and certainly not a CDL. Lock them up and lock up everyone associated with the getting a CDL. Eliminate non-domicile CDL and ban trucking companies that are not physically based in the US.
