South Carolina mom accused of knife attack on young children; 6-year-old may lose arm: sheriff's office
[FoxNews] A boy called his grandmother saying he and his younger sibling were hungry before they were found severely injured

A South Carolina boy’s call to his grandmother saying he was hungry led authorities to a home where investigators say his mother had stabbed him and his younger sibling dozens of times, leaving both children with severe injuries.

Taylor Gosnell, 35, was charged with two counts of attempted murder after allegedly attacking her children, ages 6 and 3, inside their Spartanburg County home during the overnight hours before they were discovered Saturday, according to authorities.

The 6-year-old called his grandmother Sept. 26, and told her his mother was not home and that he and his 3-year-old sibling were hungry, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The grandmother contacted a friend of Gosnell, and the two went to the residence. They found both children suffering from severe injuries and immediately dialed 911.

Deputies responding shortly after 2:30 p.m. found the residence in disarray, with numerous items damaged or broken, authorities said.

Investigators said the children had approximately 50 stab wounds between them, including injuries that penetrated to the bone. Both were initially taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Greenville, where they remained hospitalized and were expected to undergo additional surgeries.

Arrest warrants reviewed by Fox News Digital provide additional details about the alleged attack. The warrants allege Gosnell struck the children with a baseball bat and a circular knife, causing severe injuries with intent to kill them.

Gosnell returned to the home while deputies were still there, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies transported her to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for an evaluation after observing behavior that raised concerns about her immediate well-being.

Authorities said Gosnell attempted to run from the ambulance before being transported and had to be restrained. She was medically cleared and released from the hospital shortly afterward.

Gosnell was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Facility shortly before midnight Sept. 26 and was denied bond on both attempted murder charges.

The children have been placed in protective custody and remain hospitalized, authorities said.

In Mexico, a man and a woman were burned alive after being accused of witchcraft
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited
[Regnum] In the indigenous village of Las Tacitas in the Mexican state of Chiapas, local residents accused their neighbors of witchcraft and burned them alive. Need To Know reported this on October 1.

According to the source, the victims belonged to the Tzeltal Maya community. Villagers dragged a 50-year-old man and his girlfriend from their home and brought them to the community hall, where they beat them for several hours. They were then doused with fuel and set on fire. Their remains were found covered by the road.

According to preliminary information, the man was a healer, and accusations of witchcraft arose after people who sought his help fell ill. Another theory suggests the death of a community official was the trigger.

Horacio Culebro Borrayas, President of the Chiapas State Human Rights Commission, emphasized that no rumors or beliefs justify torture or the loss of life. The state attorney general's office has opened an investigation into the tragedy.

Professor Ruprecht: Yellowstone Volcano Eruption Will Threaten the Entire World
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited
[Regnum] A possible eruption of the Yellowstone volcano in the United States could trigger a global food crisis and threaten the lives of people across the planet. Philip Ruprecht, a geology professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, reported this on October 1

According to the scientist, a catastrophic eruption of the supervolcano would cause serious disruptions in food supplies worldwide, with large-scale economic consequences felt by residents of every country.

" In the event of a large-scale eruption, a catastrophic eruption of the Yellowstone volcano, it will affect the entire Western Hemisphere, the entire planet in many ways," Ruprecht told RIA Novosti.

However, the professor added that the likelihood of a catastrophe occurring in the foreseeable future remains extremely low. Ruprecht emphasized that humanity shouldn't worry too much about this or lose sleep.

The Yellowstone Caldera, formed by a volcanic eruption 630,000 years ago, is located in Yellowstone National Park, USA. In July 2024, a powerful geyser erupted in the park. The explosion damaged a walking path.

In 2025, MailOnline used the ImageFX AI image generator to demonstrate what a Yellowstone eruption might look like. Experts predict thousands of deaths, with rivers of molten lava flowing up to 60 km from the eruption site. They predict a thick layer of suffocating ash covering the US, plunging the world into a volcanic winter that could last for years. It is estimated that if Yellowstone were to explode, the initial blast would release the equivalent of 875,000 megatons of TNT, more than 100 times the power of every nuclear bomb ever dropped.

Christa Pike survives 2 lethal injections. How common are botched executions in the U.S.?
[Yahoo] Pike was hospitalized after surviving two doses of lethal injection drugs, prompting Tennessee to halt executions and investigate what went wrong.

Tennessee's only female death row inmate has been taken to the hospital after surviving two doses of lethal injection drugs, her lawyers said.

Christa Pike, 50, was alive and snoring loudly after being given two doses of pentobarbital, her attorneys said.

Pike had been scheduled for execution 10 a.m. Wednesday for a killing she committed in 1995, at the age of 18. She would have been the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

An appeals court stopped the lethal injection just an hour before it was to start, a stay that was subsequently overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Media witnesses said officials raised the curtains to the execution chamber at 7:27 p.m., showing Pike strapped to a gurney. "I'm going to leave this world the way I spent most of my life, and that is in love," she said in her "last" words.

However, Pike remained conscious after the initial dose and at one point raised her head and asked prison officials if her arm was supposed to feel that way.

By 8:26 p.m., witnesses reported that the second dose of pentobarbital had been administered.

Pike continued to be heard snoring behind the closed curtain until the microphone was cut off at 8:53 p.m. At that time, an announcement was made to escort media witnesses out of the area.

Pike's legal team said in a statement to the Tennessean newspaper, "Tonight the State of Tennessee once again failed to carry out a lawful execution.

"We take no pleasure in being right, but the concerns raised by Ms Pike proved to be true: difficult vein access, blown veins, degraded pentobarbital, no emergency medical care available when things inevitably go wrong, all under a protocol that remains veiled in secrecy."

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said that he had ordered "a comprehensive, third-party review to determine exactly what occurred" and that the remaining scheduled execution will not take place this year.

"Carrying out a lawfully imposed sentence is among the state's most serious responsibilities, and the people of Tennessee expect it to be done in a manner that is not only legal and constitutional, but is effective," he said.

Economy
Sept Employment report from NFIB
Link to National Federation of Independent Business

This is a good place to look for signs of a coming recession. No such signs currently. Some decrease in small biz hiring but this is due to difficulty in finding employees.

Other places to look are from the BLS and the latest reports there:

09/29/2026 August job openings and hires change little; total separations unchanged

09/25/2026 Retirement benefits available to 72% of private industry workers in March 2026

09/24/2026 57% of workers have flexible schedules; 34% of workers sometimes work at home

09/24/2026 Median tenure with current employer increases to 4.1 years in January 2026

all show no recession in the near term

only real bad thing in the economy is gasoline price which will come down a bit as the winter blend (higher vapor pressure) fills tanks; however, existing gasoline in storage is down quite a bit and will require months to recover

France rocked by student riots as hundreds arrested, violence spreads nationwide

More than 625 people, mostly 'students', have been arrested over two days of violent protests near schools and universities across France over what students say are staffing shortages, dilapidated buildings, overcrowded classes, government budget cuts and long schedules.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu convened a crisis meeting Thursday, canceling ministers’ trips to focus on the protests, which began last week in Paris-region schools and have snowballed.

Reports say over 350 high schools and about 30 university campuses were affected by the movement on Thursday alone. RFI reported 83 police and gendarmes were wounded today, with 119 students and school staffers injured since the start of unrest last week.

Reuters reported the principal of Marseille’s Victor Hugo high school was doused in gasoline and injured, while two other principals were injured in attacks in Rouen and Petit-Quevilly. Police used tear gas in several cities, with Reuters reporting students accusing authorities of heavy‑handed tactics. Meanwhile, authorities are warning of "urban violence" and attempted arson at multiple schools.

The protests coincide with the government announcing a series of unpopular spending cuts in its 2027 budget two weeks ago and have become a political flashpoint at a sensitive moment for the French government.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez told Reuters that, "in certain places, there were individuals acting as agitators — people who moved from one school to another to stir up high school and other students and incite them to commit acts of violence." Education Minister Edouard Geffray called for schools to hold classes remotely if protesters were blocking their premises, posting on X: "Violence will not keep our students from their fundamental right to an education."

Senior Envoy to Europe at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies Simone Rodan-Benzaquen told Fox News Digital, "The students’ grievances about missing teachers and deteriorating schools were real at first. But dousing a principal in gasoline and attacking firefighters are acts of extreme violence. What makes this politically significant is the effort to turn frustration over schools into a much broader confrontation with the government."

The Associated Press reported the protests are quickly blowing up as a hot topic in the election campaign to replace President Emmanuel Macron next May. Far-left presidential hopeful Jean-Luc Mélenchon has decried the government response to the protests as repressive. Critics have accused his party, La France Insoumise, (LFI), of seeking to use the unrest to score points in the presidential campaign and of inciting violence.

Rodan-Benzaquen says the LFI has "actively supported the mobilization. Activists circulate footage of clashes, party accounts amplify it and elected officials present themselves as the students’ defenders." With an election next year, she said, "Mélenchon sees these mobilizations as a way to consolidate young voters and marginalize the moderate left. At a time of deep political, geopolitical and economic challenges, this is a very dangerous situation for France."

Video posted to social media shows the Seine-Saint Denis mayor, Bally Bagayoko of the LFI, joining in with students, smiling and high-fiving pupils after a trash can was set on fire in the street. And the president of the Île‑de‑France region told Radio Monte Carlo, "There is a call to action being issued by LFI today: ‘Trash your high school.’ It is being spread via TikTok challenges."
