Troops of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK)/Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), have arrested two suspected logistics suppliers to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an intelligence-led operation in Monguno, Borno State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects were apprehended at about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 at the C-19 checkpoint in Monguno following sustained surveillance and intensified operations aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics networks.
The suspects were identified as Bukar Kaka Modu, 30, and Abubakar Musa, 30.
According to the sources, the suspects allegedly confessed during preliminary interrogation that they were transporting food items and other supplies to ISWAP fighters in Kwatan Dowoshi Village in Kukawa Local Government Area.
[Rudaw] Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (ICTS) forces carried out a large-scale security sweep in Nineveh province on Sunday, destroying a cache of deteriorated munitions uncovered during an intelligence-led operation aimed at preventing Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. The operation took place in Bartella subdistrict of Hamdaniya district in Nineveh province, where ICTS units launched a search "within the framework of preemptive efforts to pursue the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs and enhance security and stability in the province."
The ICTS said forces found damaged military materials, including rockets of various types, landmines, mortar rounds, and improvised bombs (IEDs). The explosives were safely treated and destroyed at the site without incident.
The latest operation comes as Iraqi and Kurdistan Region security forces continue intelligence-led operations against ISIS sleeper cells, particularly in provinces that were once strongholds of the murderous Moslem group, including Nineveh, Kirkuk, ... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time... Salahaddin, and Anbar.
Iraqi authorities have stepped up search operations and targeted raids in recent months to prevent the group from rebuilding its networks.
The ICTS said the search was part of its "ongoing security plans to maintain stability and raise the level of readiness across different operational sectors."
Although ISIS was territorially defeated in Iraq in late 2017, the group continues to operate through sleeper cells.
On Friday, the ICTS announced the arrest of two alleged ISIS members in separate operations in Sulaimani and the destruction of five ISIS hideouts in Kirkuk.
Earlier last week, Iraqi forces also arrested a senior ISIS figure known as "Abu Noor," who was accused of serving as a military checkpoint commander during an intelligence-led operation west of Baghdad.

The Yellow Line is the border demarcated in the October 2025 ceasefire, which roughly split Gaza between zones of Israeli and Hamas control. Since then, the IDF has taken more territory and now controls more than 60% of Gaza.
Israel was expected to initially pull back to the Yellow Line under the terms of a deal to disarm Hamas that was announced last week, a Board of Peace official told The Times of Israel last week, though Monday’s statement does not specify that.
An earlier version of the Board of Peace statement spoke of the "full withdrawal of the IDF." That suggested that some IDF pullbacks beyond the Yellow Line could take place before the entire disarmament process is complete — as was specified in the Board of Peace’s proposal last week.
But "full" was removed from the Monday Board of Peace statement minutes after it was published.
Regardless, both versions appeared to contradict what Mladenov said last week, when he asserted that "Withdrawal must move in lockstep with decommissioning."
The apparent shift appeared to be part of the Board of Peace’s efforts to get Israel on board with its disarmament plan, after officials in Jerusalem insisted that no IDF withdrawals would take place until after the full disarmament of Hamas was complete, taking issue with the plan’s envisioning of a phased disarmament and withdrawal process.
But the apparent change to the disarmament terms risks losing Hamas, which only agreed to the original sequencing.
In its Monday statement on the "constructive" meeting with Netanyahu, the Board of Peace wrote, "The goal is clear and is not in question: the complete decommissioning of weapons in the Strip and the transition away from rule by the gun to civilian governance. Reaching it will be a process. And that process will be set out in the next phase of the work."
As Israeli officials continue to reject any halt to military operations in Gaza, the Board statement stressed that "continued progress towards implementation in full depends on each side fulfilling its obligations under the agreed framework."
’THE START OF THE HARD PHASE’
According to the Israel Hayom outlet, Netanyahu told Mladenov during the meeting that Israel will not hold its fire in Gaza, and will not withdraw from the Yellow Line, due to the ongoing threat posed by Hamas.

The report added that Israel also handed the Board and US officials a list of reservations regarding the disarmament plan, protesting the fact that Jerusalem was not a party to the deal as it was being negotiated in Cairo, and did not get the opportunity to present its opinion.

An Israeli official familiar with the matter also told The Times of Israel that Jerusalem also took issue with the Board of Peace’s plans to include representatives from Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. For his part, Mladenov appeared to tamp down expectations of a breakthrough, writing that it was a "long day in Jerusalem."

Later, a delegation of Board of Peace officials held a briefing for US Congressional staffers for leaders of both parties to update them on the US-led panel’s efforts.
Board of Peace senior adviser Josh Gruenbaum and security lead Gen. (ret.) Mark Schwartz "emphasized the determination to work with Congress in a bipartisan manner to advance peace, security, governance, and reconstruction in Gaza," a Board of Peace official said.

Hours after the Board of Peace officials’ meeting with Netanyahu on Monday, an Israeli airstrike was reported in the Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood of Gaza City in which two people were killed.
It was the first airstrike in nearly 24 hours, with the brief lull leading some to speculate that progress had been made in the Board of Peace’s efforts to coax Israel into halting its strikes on Gaza.

The military said its strike in Deir al-Balah killed Abdallah Adnan Taha Abu al-Tayf, a member of Hamas’s elite Nukhba Force, who invaded Israel on October 7. A separate strike in the Shati camp of Gaza City killed Jalal Sobieh, identified by the IDF as a commander in Hamas’s Daraj-Tuffah Battalion. The IDF justified the strikes amid the ceasefire, as it has in previous ones, by claiming that both terror operatives had been advancing attacks on troops and Israeli civilians, and they were "eliminated to remove the threat."
Earlier Monday, the IDF announced that in an airstrike over the weekend it had killed another Paleostinian Islamic Jihad ...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah... terrorist who invaded Israel on October 7 and who was among those who held hostage Rom Braslavski in captivity. The strike in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah killed Mahmoud Fatair, a member of Islamic Jihad’s elite forces, according to the military.

The military said that in November 2023, during the first ceasefire and release of Israeli hostages, Fatair was seen "participating in the hostage handover ceremony of numerous hostages," including Amit Shani, Ofir Engel, Moran Stela Yanai, Itay Regev, Liam Or-Nassar, Raz Ben Ami, Rantin Phaiboon, Gong Sae Lao, Seekena Jakkapan and Saegkaew Charoemchai. The IDF claimed that Fatair too had been advancing attacks on troops and Israeli civilians, and was "eliminated to remove the threat."
Prime Minister’s Office spokesman Doron Spielman said Monday that “Over the past eight months, according to Israeli intelligence, Hamas has used the ceasefire to rearm, recruit thousands of additional terrorists, rebuild its military infrastructure, and prepare for further October 7-style massacres,” Spielman said, stressing that the first clause in the framework envisions a “deradicalized, terror-free zone that does not pose a threat.”
“That vision stands in direct contrast to the current reality and to Hamas’s stated intentions,” he said, calling for the “genuine, verifiable, and irreversible demilitarization of Hamas.”
“Demilitarization means Hamas physically surrendering its weapons,” Spielman added. “Anything short of full demilitarization will leave Hamas with the capability to threaten Israel again.”

"For years we knew about the underground system that the Iranians and Hezbollah had excavated there," the officers said. "We understood that it was intended not only for surveillance and intelligence gathering but also to support direct fire against Israeli communities and military positions. Only after conducting a comprehensive survey of the network did we realize how critical it was to Hezbollah's operational plan for attacking Israel."
The officers added that an even greater concern is that similar underground infrastructure remains in southern Leb ...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?... and has yet to be located or destroyed by the IDF.
"The assessment is that the Lebanese Armed Forces are incapable of dealing with these sites," they said. "If the IDF does not receive authorization from the politicianship because of American restrictions, Hezbollah will continue to retain strategic assets."
HEZBOLLAH PREPARED TO REMAIN IN TUNNELS, FIRE ON IDF SOLDIERS, MILITARY SAYS
A security official said that Israeli Military Intelligence and the Northern Command had gained a much deeper understanding of the scope of the project.
"They came to understand the process the Iranians led in southern Lebanon, how sensitive it was to Hezbollah's operational plan to capture the Galilee and hold territory, and how it was connected to other underground sites," the official said.
"It was no coincidence that not all of the infrastructure was interconnected. That created a sophisticated operational concept for striking Israel. They were prepared to remain entrenched in these underground facilities for months while continuing to fire at Israel."

...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke... Northern Command officers stressed that the IDF has strengthened its operational grip on Hezbollah activity centers in southern Lebanon despite the ceasefire.
According to a preliminary investigation into a recent clash involving the Egoz Unit of the Commando Brigade, troops identified Hezbollah operatives emerging from an underground compound whose entrance had been concealed. The operatives were reportedly on their way to collect food that had been left in the area by another Hezbollah cell.
Egoz troops prepared an ambush and opened fire on the operatives. During the exchange, however, an Egoz officer was moderately maimed.
The incident will be the first operational investigation led by the newly appointed division commander, Brig.-Gen. Manny Liberty, who will examine the sequence of events and draw operational lessons.

^The U.S.-Iran War Cannot End Without U.S. Pressure on Israel in Lebanon When the United States and Iran published the initial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) meant to halt the months-long war initiated by the U.S. and Israel, its first article called for a “permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.” It was a term acceptable to the Trump Administration, but not its co-belligerents in the conflict. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz summed up this dynamic on June 24, proclaiming that “we are not retreating” from Lebanon, “even if there is an American demand.” Such statements, while geared toward Israel’s hawkish voting base months before its parliamentary elections, reflect an unfortunate reality: Israel’s political leadership believes it can skirt the demands of its patron, even when its decisions go against U.S. interests. The reality, however, is that Washington can and should materially pressure Tel Aviv to end its military operations in Lebanon, especially if it wants already floundering talks with Iran to succeed.
[North Press] Israeli military bulldozers carried out land-clearing operations in a forested area near the village of Jbata al-Khashab in the northern countryside of Quneitra Governorate on Monday, local sources told North Press.
The sources said Israeli military vehicles cleared parts of Al-Shahar Forest, located southwest of Jbata al-Khashab along the separation line with the occupied Golan Heights.
Not occupied. Annexed. So long as Israelis are capable of holding weapons, the Arabs will not get it back, because until June 1967, the Arabs hung out at the top of the Golan ridge and shelled the Jewish farms below — more than two decades of near daily sirens, near daily of children living, learning, and playing in underground shelters, because to go outside was to risk being blown to bits. Exactly how it had been for Israeli children since 2007 in southern Israel within rocket distance of the Gaza Strip.
As for Israel’s current expansion of a buffer zone in Syria, one can only guess why Israelis would distrust the permanent goodwill of an expansionist, caliphate-seeking more-or-less branch of Al Qaeda that is currently working to consolidate its conquest of formerly Arab Socialist Syria.
According to the sources, the operation targeted the same forest where similar clearing activities had previously been carried out by the Israeli military.
Al-Shahar Forest covers approximately 500 dunams and lies adjacent to the separation line in northern Quneitra governorate. The dunam is a measure of area used in the lands of the former Ottoman empire, defined by the Ottomans as the amount of land that could be plowed in a single day. In Israel this is standardized to 1000 square meters or one decare. For some reason Iraq defines it as 2500 square meters.

An Israeli force of five military vehicles entered Jabata al-Khashab in northern Quneitra. The town's mukhtar, Muhammad Mreiwid, puts Israeli-held land there at about 10,000 dunams of forest, pasture and farmland since 2024.
One Incursion at a Time: Israel Builds Its Permanent Occupation of Southern Syria

These invasions have become almost daily, extending across northern and southern Quneitra and into western Daraa. Sunday’s checkpoint is not an exceptional event, just one small part of Israel’s steadily expanding occupation of southern Syria.
This past weekend alone, on Friday, Israeli vehicles entered the vicinity of Ruwayhina Dam in northern Quneitra. On Saturday morning, another force established a checkpoint at the Wadi al-Ruqqad bridge in western Daraa and searched a civilian home. Later that day, five Israeli vehicles entered al-Ajraf in northern Quneitra, stopped and searched passers-by and installed a large surveillance camera before reportedly removing it and withdrawing.
The individual patrols may be temporary. The system of control they are creating is not.
Since seizing additional Syrian territory following Bashar al-Assad’s downfall in December 2024, Israel has constructed military positions, fortifications and roads, dug trenches, cleared agricultural and forest land and demolished civilian property. Its forces conduct home raids, detain residents, erect checkpoints and determine where Syrians may travel inside their own country.
Amnesty International has documented the repeated expulsion of Syrian families and deliberate destruction of civilian homes in Quneitra, saying these acts should be investigated as war crimes. Other documentation records the seizure and demolition of homes, mine-laying, forced displacement and the clearance of around 45 hectares of the historic Jubata al-Khashab forest.
This is occupation by accumulation: one road, checkpoint, demolition, surveillance post and military base at a time. Dividing it into hundreds of supposedly separate incidents makes a sustained territorial project appear to be a series of minor security operations.
Ordinary Syrians have shown extraordinary restraint in the face of these incursions, arrests, demolitions and seizures of their land, but anger is rising. Residents have blocked Israeli patrol routes with stones, demonstrated against the occupation and, in Abdin in June, confronted advancing troops before Israel responded with gunfire and artillery shelling. More Syrians are evidently prepared to resist.
Yet the Syrian government is walking a perilous tightrope. Any organised military retaliation could be seized upon by Israel as the pretext for a much wider war against a country whose armed forces and infrastructure it has already systematically weakened.
Israel has repeatedly threatened Syrian government forces and previously bombed Damascus under the claimed justification of “protecting” Syria’s Druze and other minorities. Damascus must therefore oppose an advancing occupation without handing Benjamin Netanyahu the confrontation he could use to escalate it—while knowing that continued restraint gives Israel more time to entrench its control.
Israel originally portrayed its advance beyond the 1974 disengagement line as a temporary security measure. It is no longer even pretending that its presence will be temporary.
In July, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz declared that Israeli forces would remain in what Israel calls “security zones” in Syria, Lebanon and Gaza “until further notice.”
“We will not withdraw from the security zones,” he said.
US President Donald Trump reportedly asked Netanyahu to begin withdrawing from Syria, warning that Israel’s presence was increasing tensions.
Netanyahu subsequently told his security cabinet that Washington wanted withdrawals from Syria, Lebanon and Gaza—and that he intended to refuse.
There is little reason for Netanyahu to treat Trump’s request as an ultimatum. Washington has imposed no visible consequence for his refusal. On Friday, Trump openly acknowledged that his administration’s campaign against the International Criminal Court was intended partly to “defend Bibi”—Netanyahu—from prosecution.
The United States is therefore asking Netanyahu to moderate one violation of international law while actively protecting him from accountability for others. Its objections to the occupation increasingly resemble diplomatic theatre rather than meaningful pressure.
The United Nations continues to condemn Israel’s violations of Syrian sovereignty and the 1974 agreement. Human-rights organisations document possible war crimes. The ICC has issued a warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Yet he continues to travel abroad, receive diplomatic protection and reject demands for withdrawal.
Netanyahu has learned that condemnation without enforcement imposes no cost. Israel can ignore the UN, defy Syria, reject even Washington’s requests and continue changing reality on the ground.
Sunday’s checkpoint is therefore not the whole story. It is the latest step in an occupation Israel established by stealth, is expanding in full view of the world and now openly declares it has no intention of ending.
[Rudaw] The armed wing of the Kurdish opposition group Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) on Monday grabbed credit for an attack on Iranian forces in Iran's Kurdish-majority western regions (Rojhelat), saying it was carried out in retaliation for the killing of three members of one family last week.
The East Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK), PJAK's armed wing, which calls its fighters the "Defenders of Kurdistan," said its forces targeted an Iranian military position near the village of Sianav, on the outskirts of Marivan, in Rojhelat's Kurdistan province, on Sunday.
"This operation was carried out in Dire Revenge for the massacre of the Tavakoli family in the city of Baneh by the Islamic Theocratic Republic," the statement read, referring to an area near Marivan where the family was killed by Iranian forces.
Mehdi Tavakoli, a prominent Kurdish photographer and cultural activist, was killed alongside his sister Somayyeh Tavakoli, a psychologist, and their mother Maryam Aslani, after Iranian security forces shot up their vehicle on the Baneh-Marivan road on July 26.
La Belle France-based Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) said forces from Tehran's intelligence ministry directly fired at the family's vehicle, killing all three immediately.

For its part, Iran's army offered a different casualty toll, saying that one soldier, identified as Abolfazl Goudarzi, was killed and another maimed when its 328th Brigade base near Marivan came under attack at around 3 am local time on Sunday.
The army said the assailants used two explosive drones and rocket-propelled grenades.
Iranian state media, however, claimed that the vehicle's occupants were armed PJAK members killed during a confrontation. Both rights organizations rejected that account and identified the three as civilians.
Tavakoli managed the Kurdistan Photographers’ House and founded the Chaw Art House. He was also a former political prisoner and had previously been sentenced to two years in prison on national security charges.
The family was reportedly pressured by Iranian security authorities to publicly describe the deaths as the result of a road accident and warned that funeral ceremonies would be prohibited if they challenged the official narrative.
PJAK was established in the Qandil Mountains on April 4, 2003, by around 250 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who originally came from the Kurdish region in Iran.
Units of Kurdish opposition groups, including PJAK, based in the Kurdistan Region, had clashed with Iranian security forces in recent weeks in the west of the country, with both sides sustaining casualties.
Several individuals in the Kurdish areas have been killed in recent years after being labelled as collaborators by Kurdish opposition groups, with no group officially claiming responsibility.

[Rudaw] Iranian authorities on Monday executed two men accused of passing military and security information to Israel during the 12-day and 40-day wars with Israel and the United States, amid a sharp increase in executions on espionage and national security charges and a widening crackdown on political and civil dissent.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Fars News released a video on Monday showing the two men’s confessions. In the footage, Pouria Safvat said he had provided the coordinates of mosques, schools and Basij bases to Iran International, a London-based 24-hour news channel.
It is unclear why the defendants would have needed to provide the coordinates of sites that are freely available online.
Over the past week, at least three protesters have been executed, including two who were hanged in a public square in Isfahan on July 28.
The judiciary said technical examinations of Behzad’s mobile phone showed that he had repeatedly sent the locations and geographical coordinates of military, police, and security facilities during the 40-day war that began in late February.
Safvat was accused of sending the coordinates of military and security sites to Iran International, a media outlet that Iranian authorities have repeatedly alleged is linked to Israel.
The allegations, judicial proceedings, and circumstances surrounding the men’s arrests, detention, and trials could not be independently verified. Iranian authorities did not disclose when the men were arrested, where they were held, whether they had access to independent legal representation, or where the executions were carried out.
Iranian courts frequently rely on televised or recorded confessions in national-security cases. Human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that such statements are often obtained under torture, prolonged solitary confinement or other forms of coercion.
The executions come amid an intensified campaign against people accused of collaborating with Israel and the US during successive wars and periods of unrest. Tens of thousands of people were detained during the nationwide protests that erupted in January over worsening economic conditions and subsequently during the war launched by the US and Israel. Those arrested have included protesters, journalists, lawyers, activists and members of ethnic and religious minorities. Many have faced accusations of espionage, communicating with foreign media or providing information to enemy states - charges that can carry the death penalty
Iran Human Rights said at least 12 people had been executed on espionage charges so far this year. Ten were accused of spying for Israel or the US, while two Iraqi nationals were accused of working for an unidentified Arab country. Most of those accused of spying for Israel or the US were executed after the 40-day war began.
The Norway-based organization has warned that some prisoners were initially arrested on unrelated charges before being accused of espionage and forced to make self-incriminating statements that were later used to secure death sentence ...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead... s.
Iran Human Rights documented at least 13 executions for alleged espionage for Israel in 2025, with the number rising around and after last year’s 12-day war.
