[IsraelTimes] The US Pentagon has ordered about 1,500 active-duty soldiers to prepare for a possible deployment to Minnesota, the Washington Post reports, citing defense officials.

The move comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to use the Insurrection Act if officials in the state don’t stop protesters from targeting immigration officials.

I chanted against ’genocide’ and for ’Paleostinian resistance’ — obviously armed ’resistance’ — during demonstrations supposedly defending the rights of women and LGBT people, with no mention of homosexuals being tortured or murdered in the name of Sharia law in the Gaza Strip, governed by Hamas."
At the outset, Bussigny faced a learning curve.
"At first, I went too quickly," said Bussigny, whose mother is from Morocco, her father from La Belle France. "Participating in demonstrations, I made mistakes. Despite this animus, much to the consolation of Bussigny, "Les Nouveaux Antisémites" has been widely acclaimed in the media, is on bestseller lists in La Belle France and received the 2025 Prix Edgar Faure award for best political book of the year.
"For all the negativity, there’s been lots of positive feedback," said Bussigny, who writes regularly for French publications Le Point, Marianne and Franc-Tireur. "Given how well the book is selling, obviously, many non-Jews are reading it, which is important. I’ve received lots of support."
Not surprisingly, some of that support has come from La Belle France’s Jewish community, the second largest outside Israel.
"I’m quite touched by the response from French Jews," said Bussigny, who recently spoke at a Gay Paree event hosted by CRIF, the representative body of Jewish institutions in La Belle France, which also featured Israel’s Ambassador to La Belle France, Joshua Zarka. "I’ve received so much gratitude. Many say my book has helped them see what’s behind much of the current antisemitism. They’re worried and grateful to better understand everything that’s at stake for them."
"They’re happy I’m not Jewish," said Bussigny, noting that part of the reaction surprised her.
"At first, I didn’t understand this. I was a bit embarrassed to be invited to speak about antisemitism because I’m not Jewish and I don’t experience antisemitism," she said. "I’d ask them, isn’t it better to give the floor to someone who’s directly affected by it? And they’d say to me, ’No, on the contrary.’"
MIXING WITH MILITANTS
For the book, Bussigny interviewed more than 100 people, Jewish and non-Jewish, from hardcore Death Eaters to university students and professors to elected officials. She also visited the Free University of Brussels and Columbia University in New York.
This is her fourth book and follows "Les Nouveaux Inquisiteurs," published two years ago, just before October 7, for which she also went undercover, to investigate the woke movement.
"Before working on ’Les Nouveaux Antisémites,’ I didn’t know many Jews," said Bussigny, who’s hoping to visit Israel for the first time in the coming months for an event centered on her book. "I think if it wasn’t for my parents, I could’ve become antisemitic. I grew up in a Gay Paree suburb where I didn’t meet any Jews and didn’t even realize what antisemitism was. When I was a teenager, I wanted to go to a performance of [antisemitic French comedian] Dieudonné. But my parents said, ’No, that’s going too far.’ They alerted me and explained to me what antisemitism is."
Citing many individuals by name in the book for their extreme antisemitism and anti-Zionism and their affiliation with nefarious groups, Bussigny devotes an entire chapter to one person in particular, Rima Hassan, a Paleostinian, Syrian-born senior member of the left-wing antisemitic La La Belle France Insoumise party.
"Rima Hassan has the potential of becoming La Belle France’s [Zohran] Mamdani," said Bussigny, referring to New York City’s anti-Israel mayor. "She’s succeeded in radicalizing much of [left-wing political party] La La Belle FranceInsoumise. As she’s the most-followed political figure in La Belle France on social media, along with Jordan Bardella [of the far-right Rassemblement National], she has tremendous influence. Hassan is obsessed with Jews and is the most dangerous politician connected to antisemitism and Islamism. Today in La La Belle France Insoumise, she’s more prominently featured by [party leader] Jean-Luc Mélanchon, who understands her ultra-radical discourse appeals to the young generation."
This could have electoral consequences.
"I worry about what’s happening with Gen Z, those born after 1995, many of whom will be voting for the first time next year in the municipal elections, and then in 2027 in the presidential elections," Bussigny said. "We could have several Mamdanis in La Belle France. He’s called the TikTok mayor for a reason. He was elected in large part thanks to Gen Z voters, and he used his anti-Zionism as a motor for his campaign. What does this mean for our upcoming elections?"
In media interviews and at conferences, Bussigny is outspoken in condemning antisemitism and its danger to French society. She’s met with government ministers and parliamentarians about her investigation and its sobering implications. In late October, she testified at length before the National Assembly’s commission of inquiry into Islamist movements in La Belle France supporting terrorism and promoting Islamist ideology, and their strategy of building relationships with national and local politicians.

She stressed that in her work, she distinguishes between support expressed for Paleostinian civilians versus for gangs and the glorification of terrorism.
"While undercover, I identified classic antisemitic stereotypes, reformulated by simply substituting the term ’Zionist’ for ’Jew,’" she told the hearing. "This rhetoric was flagrantly apparent during training by the Urgence Paleostine organization in which I participated. The speakers spoke of a supposed ’Zionist conspiracy’ in La Belle France in which ’Zionists’ control the media and have infiltrated the government. PUSH TO FIGHT ANTISEMITISM BEFORE ALL IS LOST
Bussigny recently joined a group of prominent French Jews and non-Jews in signing a public letter denouncing rampant antisemitism and calling on the French government to make the fight against Jew-hate and racism a major national cause in 2026 and to create a special judiciary office for the prosecution of antisemitism.
Bussigny’s book isn’t just a report of her investigation, as reflected ominously in the introduction’s final sentence — "My concern continues to grow regarding the future marked by the persecution of Jews." Equally sobering, she titles the book’s last chapter: "This Isn’t a Conclusion But a Cry of Despair in the Face of What’s Happening," which ends with: "I complete this book by simply saying to you that now that you’ve read what I’ve written, you can no longer say you didn’t know."
When asked if her perspective has changed since completing the book last spring, Bussigny didn’t hesitate.
"No," she replied. "Even if I have a bit of hope, it’s so little next to the despair I have. My heart is heavy. I’m very, very afraid for La Belle France. I think in the long run, this might be a lost cause, but I’m among those who are going to fight until the end."

Rodriguez, 31, is accused of fatally shooting Lischinsky, 30, and Milgrim, 26, on May 21 as they were leaving an American Jewish Committee event for young professionals and diplomats at the Capital Jewish Museum. Lischinsky and Milgrim were set to get engaged to be married.
The US Justice Department announced in August that the charges against Rodriguez — which include murder of a foreign official, first-degree murder and hate crime resulting in death — carry a maximum sentence of life in jail or the death penalty.
The department said at the time that the US attorney general would decide at a later date whether to seek the death penalty.

The following is the full text of the charter of the Board of Peace, the international body headed by US President Donald Trump.
This charter was attached to the invitations sent out to dozens of world leaders who were asked to join Trump on the panel tasked with overseeing the postwar management of Gaza.
The text of the charter was obtained and verified by The Times of Israel.
It notably makes no mention of Gaza, bolstering The Times of Israel’s reporting that the US wants the Board of Peace to assist in the resolution of other conflicts around the globe. However, the mandate of the board approved in November by the Security Council is limited to Gaza and only until the end of 2027.

[IsraelTimes] US forces have withdrawn from Iraq’s Ain al-Asad Airbase, which housed US-led forces in western Iraq, and the Iraqi army has assumed full control, the Iraqi defense ministry says.
In 2024, Washington and Baghdad reached an understanding on plans for the withdrawal of US-led coalition forces from Iraq and a move toward a bilateral security relationship.
Ain al-Asad has hosted US and coalition troops for years and has been repeatedly targeted by Iran-backed armed groups during periods of heightened regional tensions, including after the 2020 US killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
An Iraqi army colonel confirms the US forces’ withdrawal from the base, saying there were a few soldiers remaining due to some logistical issues. He does not give further details for security reasons.
It is not immediately clear when the withdrawal started, but the initial plan stipulated that hundreds of troops would leave by September 2025, with the rest departing by the end of 2026.

The US has claimed that during a meeting with Trump’s top aides on the eve of the October 2025 ceasefire deal, Hamas officials agreed to disarm — something the terrorist group has denied.
The US has been in talks with Mideast mediators Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, which have assured Washington that Hamas will agree to a gradual disarmament plan that would begin with the terror organization giving up its heavy weaponry and the launch of a "buy-back" program for lighter weapons, according to the US official and two Arab diplomats, who said the goal is to begin implementing the program in the coming weeks.
A senior US official briefing news hounds on Wednesday said all terror infrastructure in Gaza will be destroyed and "heavy weaponry, like RPGs, rocket launchers and missiles" will "need to be put into a place where they’re not being used."
But he notably made no mention of light weapons, which Israel is also insisting be part of the disarmament program, arguing that AK-47s are what Hamas uses to maintain its control of Gazooks in the Strip.
Trump’s comments in the Truth Social post went further than those by his aide in the briefing, insisting that every weapon must be handed over, something Hamas is unlikely to accept.
Still, the US officials briefing news hounds on Wednesday acknowledged that talks with Hamas on disarmament are still in their initial stages.
Hamas officials have publicly asserted that the organization will only agree to give up its weapons in a negotiated process that results in the establishment of a Paleostinian state — something that Israel rejects.
The invitation was extended without consultation with Israel. Israel does not agree.
[Regnum] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been invited to join the co-founders of the Gaza Peace Council. The invitation came from US President Donald Trump, according to Burhanettin Duran, head of the Turkish leader's administration's communications department.
“On January 16, 2026, the President of the United States, as the founding chairman of the peace council, sent a letter inviting our president to join the co-founders of the council,” Duran wrote on social media.
He also recalled that the peace council and other bodies being created within the framework of the White House initiative will be responsible for ensuring security and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.
In November, the UN Security Council approved a US-proposed draft resolution supporting Trump's plan to resolve the situation in Gaza. The document was supported by 13 of the 15 Security Council members. Russia and China abstained from voting.
In late December 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his readiness to move to the second phase of the Gaza peace deal. In turn, the head of the White House stated that the disarmament of Hamas was necessary to accelerate the process of normalization.
On January 14, White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced the launch of the second phase of this 20-point plan. He specified that this phase includes the creation of a transitional "technocratic" Palestinian Authority and a National Committee for Gaza Governance. The American side also intends to begin the full demilitarization and restoration of the enclave, primarily through the "disarmament of all unauthorized personnel."
On January 15, the US President announced the formation of a peace council on Gaza. Trump called the council "the most prestigious" ever assembled. Its members included Witkoff, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the US president's son-in-law, investor Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and US Deputy National Security Advisor Robert Gabriel.

[IsraelTimes] Friends of Robina Aminian, 23, told family she was shot in back of the head at close range during Tehran rally; mother ‘looked through so many beautiful faces’ before finding her
Robina Aminian’s family believes the college student was killed by a bullet fired by Iranian security forces at close range, straight into the back of her head.
But her death in the nationwide protests that challenged the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s theocracy was only the start of the family’s agony. In the aftermath of the killing, Aminian’s mother had to look through piles of bloodied corpses to find her daughter’s body. Then the family raced to escape authorities who might demand payment to release the body and buried her hastily in an unmarked roadside pit.
Their odyssey reflects the trail of anguish left by Iran’s deadly assault on protesters, which has led to desperate relatives searching overflowing morgues across the country. For families, the loss of loved ones is compounded by the difficulty they face in grieving and giving the dead a dignified sendoff.
More than a week after she was killed, Aminian’s relatives say they still have not held a funeral for the 23-year-old Kurdish woman who was studying fashion in Tehran, the capital.
"She wanted a bright future for herself," her uncle, Nezar Minoei, said from Oslo. "But unfortunately, the future has been stolen from her."
DETAILS OF DEATH ARE UNCLEAR
Details about what happened to Aminian are scant. After her death, her mother called relatives outside the country, recounting what she learned from Aminian’s friends, who were present when she was killed.

With communications greatly limited in Iran, the AP has been unable to independently confirm the family’s account or the wounds to Aminian’s body or to verify its location. The Iranian mission to the United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... in New York did not respond to questions about the death.
The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, which relies on a network of activists on the ground and has been accurate during previous unrest in Iran, said at least 3,090 people have been killed. Iran’s government has not offered any overall casualty figures.
FRIENDS CALLED MOTHER TO REPORT DAUGHTER’S SHOOTING
Everything that Aminian’s relatives abroad know about her death comes from a brief phone call her mother was able to make January 10 to relatives in Oslo.
They say the mother, Amina Norei, got a call January 8 from Aminian’s friends, who said she had been bumped off by security forces. The friends told Norei they were walking away from campus in Tehran after dark when they saw a protest and joined in.
A bullet fired by security forces struck the back of Aminian’s head, her friends told the mother.
Videos shared on social media, verified by the AP, and statements by rights groups, doctors and survivors, describe Iranian agents using rifles and shotguns to disperse protesters across the country.
Iran’s theocracy, which has used violence in previous rounds of unrest, increasingly refers to demonstrators as "terrorists." Authorities allege some demonstrators were armed, but there are no allegations that anyone was armed in Aminian’s vicinity at the time of her death.
Aminian’s relatives said she was not an activist or involved in politics.
MOTHER ’LOOKED THROUGH SO MANY BEAUTIFUL FACES’
Aminian’s mother was in Kermanshah, a western city in the Kurdish region of Iran nearly 460 kilometers (230 miles) from Tehran, when she learned about her daughter’s death.
She rushed to Tehran in the middle of the night, she told family. Norei recalled to them how she began unzipping body bag after body bag, looking for Aminian.
"She looked through so many beautiful faces, trying to find her girl," Hali Norei, Amnian’s aunt, said from Oslo. "And what is so horrifying for me is imagining what my sister feels as she searches for her daughter."
Many other Iranian families are searching overflowing morgues for loved ones, according to rights group Amnesty International. Bodies have piled up in trucks, freight containers and warehouses, the group said.
When Norei found her daughter, she was joined by her husband, daughter and son, and the family rushed out with the body, fearing authorities would block their way and insist on a payment to release the corpse, according to Minoei, Aminian’s uncle.
"She actually stole the body," Minoei said.
In a statement to the AP, the New York City-based Center for Human Rights in Iran said it has received multiple accounts of intelligence forces demanding money from families in exchange for the return of protesters’ bodies. The group called the levies "a well-known, standard practice" in Iran to scare families into not publicly mourning their dead.
Other families reported to the center that they were forced to sign papers falsely declaring that their dead relatives were members of the security forces in order to retrieve the bodies.

recently aired a statement saying mortuary and burial services were free, after repeated allegations of the practice.
Minoei said the mother told him that she and her oldest daughter spent the seven-hour ride back to Kermanshah clutching the body in the backseat, blood and tears staining their clothes. When they got home, the mother told him that security forces had surrounded their house.
Amina Norei told her family they had only one option: They drove out of town and dug a pit on the side of the road. They placed the body inside and drove away. Aminian is still believed to be buried there, in an unmarked grave.
Relatives said they have not heard from Amina Norei or other relatives in Iran since Sunday.
[IsraelTimes] The death toll in the suppressed demonstrations in Iran is more than 16,500, the UK’s Sunday Times reports, citing a report put together by Iranian doctors.
The report says that most of the dead are young people under 30 and that a further 330,000 people were injured, with much of the killing coming over a two-day period.
“This is a whole new level of brutality,” Professor Amir Parasta, an Iranian-German eye surgeon, who helped put together the network of doctors, tells the Times. “This time they are using military-grade weapons and what we are seeing are gunshot and shrapnel wounds in the head, neck and chest.”
The report says the figures were compiled from staff in eight major eye hospitals and 16 emergency departments across Iran. It says the doctors were able to communicate using banned Starlink technology during the internet shutdown.
The report also notes a high amount of eye injuries, with security forces also reportedly using shotguns, with at least 700 people losing eyes.
