[IsraelTimes] The US Department of Justice says it is still reviewing more than two million documents potentially related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as it pushed more than two weeks past a deadline to release all files connected to him.
The department began releasing documents from the decades-long investigation into the late disgraced financier last month, but failed to meet the December 19 deadline mandated under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
In a letter last night to a federal judge, DOJ officials say more than two million documents remained “in various phases of review.”
About 12,285 documents comprising more than 125,000 pages, the letter says, had already been publicly released in response to the law — less than one percent of the tranche currently in review.
The DOJ says it identified on December 24 more than one million files not included in its initial review.
Some of those documents appeared to be duplicates but would still need “processing and deduplication,” the letter notes.
“Substantial work remains to be done,” says the letter, signed by Attorney General Pam Bondi and others involved.
More than 400 DOJ attorneys will spend “the next few weeks” reviewing the documents, the officials says.
At least 100 FBI employees trained in handling “sensitive victim information” will assist the effort.
US President Donald Trump is facing strong pushback from Democrats for failing to release all files related to Epstein in a timely manner.
The Trump administration has defended its handling of the documents, noting the need to protect sensitive information about victims.
In the letter, the DOJ officials say they must “manually” review the documents for “victim identifying information.”

Oh and he’s facing felony gun charges, and his ’listed’ address is a condemned chicken restaurant.
[MainePublic] In a letter sent to his fellow Lewiston city councilors Thursday morning, Ward 5 Councilor Iman Osman said he will step down from his seat just days after being sworn in.
The decision comes after Osman was indicted and arraigned on theft charges and the council voted to investigate his residency qualifications which has caused concern for some residents he represents.
The executive director of the Lewiston Auburn Youth Network, Osman served on the city's public school committee last year. He won the race for Ward 5 city councilor in November. Osman was the first Black man and Somali American elected to the council.
"When I choose to run for city council last year, it was driven by a desire to uplift our community — a place that has been my home since I was a teenager," Osman wrote. "It's where I pursued my education, started a family and built a business and professional career."
RESIDENCY CONCERNS
During his successful campaign, Osman listed his home address at 210 Blake Street, a building that has been condemned since October of last year. Osman expressed his intent to return to the building but there was never a timeline on when renovations would allow him to return.
Speaking through his lawyer, Kiernan Majerus-Collins, Osman refused to share his temporary address out of fear of harassment.
Speaking to the Lewiston Sun-Journal, the City Clerk’s office said that 210 Blake St. meets residency requirements under state law because Osman plans to return.
THEFT CHARGES
In December, court records obtained by the Lewiston Sun-Journal showed Osman had been indicted on charges that stem from the alleged theft of two firearms sometime between Nov. 15, 2023, and Oct. 11, 2024.
He pleaded not guilty "Wudn't me." at his arraignment in Lewiston District Court Tuesday.

The Trump administration is ramping up a nationwide crackdown on the misuse of taxpayer money. A top federal prosecutor criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom over a lack of oversight, branding him the "king of fraud."
"California has spent $24 billion in the last five years on homelessness, and no one can account for where that money has really gone," First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli said Thursday on "Fox & Friends."
In April, Essayli launched a task force to investigate corruption in California, with a focus on homeless services. The task force has already resulted in federal charges against two men accused of using real estate projects to exploit the state’s homelessness system for personal profit.
Essayli said those cases, which involve millions of dollars in alleged fraud, are only the "tip of the iceberg."
"We already charged millions of dollars in fraud," he said.
"I can tell you more charges are coming, probably as soon as this month."
He accused Newsom and California’s Democratic leadership of allowing fraud to continue in state-run programs with little oversight or accountability.
The scrutiny of California comes as other Democrat-led states face similar federal probes of benefits programs. In Minnesota, federal authorities are investigating allegations of widespread fraud involving childcare and other social services.
President Donald Trump weighed in on Truth Social, suggesting California could be "more corrupt" than Minnesota.
"The Fraud investigation of California has begun," he wrote on Tuesday.
Newsom’s press office pushed back against the accusations, writing on X that the governor has "blocked over $125 BILLION in fraud, arrested criminal parasites leaching off of taxpayers, and protected taxpayers from the exact kind of scam artist Trump celebrates, excuses, and pardons."
Vice President JD Vance has also criticized California’s welfare policies, accusing the state of providing benefits regardless of immigration status. Speaking to Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Vance said California openly advertises using taxpayer funds to provide Medicaid to illegal immigrants.
"California, more than almost any other state, has been so glaring and obvious about the fact that they're giving welfare benefits to illegal aliens," said Vance.
"They're getting rich off of the generosity of the American taxpayer. The political corruption that enables it has got to stop," he added.

That’s one of the bigger NGO scams. As this rolls out, we will find that some of the NGOs were generally trying to help the homeless, a portion of the NGOs were really leftist activists working on irrelevant stuff like gender queer advocacy, a portion will be Newsom friends and that disappeared the money and a portion will be scams. The breakdown is hard to guess at ahead of time but the portion of legitimate expenditures might be as low as 25%.
A bigger immediate issue is that a large portion of American trucks will be barred from use in CA for environmental reason.

It's bad enough when the state gives taxpayers' money to developers to build "housing for the homeless". But if the housing is never even built that's even worse.

The spending may have been legal according to state law but there is nothing the least bit legitimate about any of this. The whole damn thing was a scam.
The only legitimate way to deal with hobos, drug addicts and crazy people is to incarcerate them preferably in somewhat uncomfortable conditions out in the boondocks so that normal people don't have to step over their droppings on the sidewalks. Any other method is a scam in which the likes of Newsom give taxpayer money to NGOs for ineffective and, in some cases nonexistent, programs. The NGO perpetrators get rich and give kickbacks to the politicians while the hobos remain on the sidewalks.

Omar’s earmark was for Generation Hope’s "Justice Empowerment Initiative" in her district and was tucked into the Commerce, Science and Justice (CJS) minibus which will provide funding for the Commerce, Energy, Interior and Justice departments, in addition to other related agencies. Republican Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole, who chairs the Appropriations Committee, told reporters he cannot allow one member’s project to derail a carefully negotiated full-year funding bill with the Jan. 30 funding deadline fast approaching.
"I can’t afford to have a million dollar project jeopardize a $184 billion package of bills," Cole said Wednesday. "If we have an individual project that can pose a political problem, I’ve had these in the past from our side before, where we had to tell a member, ’look, there might be a way to do this, but our advice to you is to withdraw this.’"
Omar initially requested $1,460,877 for the program which provides "job-specific training, computer skills development, peer support services, and access to education" as well as services to address addiction recovery and mental health needs, according to the Congresswoman’s website. The earmark is also backed by Minnesota’s two senators, Democratic Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith.
Omar did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy praised the removal of Omar’s earmark in a Wednesday evening post to X.
