A Lebanese man went on trial Tuesday in Celle, Germany, where he is accused of being a member of the Hezbollah terror group and procuring drone components that were exported for use in attacks against Israel.
The defendant, identified under local privacy laws only as Fadel Z, supplied thousands of parts, some of which were used in two attacks on Israel, including a 2024 strike on a retirement home in the central Israel city of Herzliya, prosecutors say.
Due to his role in supplying parts used in the attack, prosecutors accused Fadel Z of aiding and abetting attempted murder. Charges filed against him in September also included membership in a terror organization and violating a European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... ban on supplying the drone parts.
Fadel Z was arrested in July 2024 as part of a wave of police action across Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... to bust a suspected multinational Hezbollah drone smuggling network.
The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement at the time of his arrest that Fadel Z had been a member of Hezbollah for over ten years, first doing public relations for the terror group.
In 2022, he began working on the drone program, first from Barcelona in Spain, then moving to Germany in 2023.
Hezbollah "employs foreign operatives who covertly purchase components in Europe and export them to Leb ...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. Only one of those statements is an exaggeration.... ," prosecutors said.
Until his arrest, Fadel Z purchased materials and parts for drones worth some €1.4m ($1.62 million), according to prosecutors. They included over 2,000 gasoline and electric motors and over 600 propellers. Parts were purchased from companies in Europe, China, and the US.
Prosecutors said Hezbollah has had "a large-scale drone program for some time" and that by June 2024, it had built up an arsenal of over 10,000 drones.
Fadel Z allegedly used front companies, many registered in his own name or those of his contacts, to pay suppliers.
According to prosecutors, Fadel Z arranged for components to be sent to Lebanon by ship or air freight from Hamburg or Spain.

Prosecutors said in September that two engines bought by Fadel Z were used in drone attacks that Hezbollah carried out against Israel. One of those was an October 11, 2024, attack on a retirement home in Herzliya that houses some 200 residents. The attack, on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, caused damage but no injuries.
The trial is expected to continue until August next year, the BBC reported.
Hezbollah drone attacks targeted civilian communities and military positions alike, forcing mass long-term evacuations from northern Israeli towns and prompting a protracted state of high alert across the region. Dozens of soldiers and non-combatants were killed in the attacks.
In April 2025, Le Figaro reported that a multinational Hezbollah smuggling network operating across Europe had been exposed and dismantled, with authorities intercepting large quantities of drone components intended for use in attacks against Israel.
The sophisticated operation reportedly spanned Spain, Germany, La Belle France, and the United Kingdom, and aimed to supply the Iran-backed Lebanese terror group with materials capable of producing hundreds — if not thousands — of explosive UAVs.
According to the report, authorities learned of the network in mid-2024, when Spain’s Civil Guard tracked suspicious purchases of drone components by Lebanese nationals operating through Spanish front companies. Those materials, which included electronic guidance systems, engines, propellers, and chemical compounds for drone assembly, were destined for Hezbollah and were intercepted before they could be shipped.
Last week, German prosecutors said police arrested an alleged member of a Hamas cell plotting attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions.
The man, identified as Lebanon-born Borhan El-K, was arrested while entering Germany from the Czech Republic, the federal prosecutor’s office said. A further suspect was arrested a week earlier in London at the request of German authorities.
Hamas has denied any connection to the alleged plot.
[Breitbart] Israeli intelligence on Wednesday unveiled the dismantling of what it dubbed the “Hamas Octopus” — a sprawling Europe-wide terror network that stockpiled weapons to strike Israeli and Jewish targets on “command day.”
The Mossad said the months-long investigation exposed terror infrastructure built by Hamas leadership to carry out attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets on European soil, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office acting on behalf of the spy agency.
In a rare public disclosure, the Mossad credited close cooperation with European intelligence and law-enforcement services for the arrests of Hamas operatives and the seizure of weapons caches across the continent.
European law-enforcement authorities carried out a series of complex counter-terrorism operations that resulted in the arrest of Hamas operatives and the exposure of weapons stockpiles prepared for use by terror cells against civilians, the statement said.
Among the most significant discoveries was a weapons hideout uncovered in Vienna last September by Austria’s Directorate for State Security and Intelligence, containing pistols and explosive devices.
During interrogations, investigators determined the cache belonged to Muhammad Naim, the son of senior Hamas political bureau official Basem Naim, who is close to Khalil al-Hayya, the Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, according to the Mossad.
The investigation also revealed a meeting held in Qatar between Muhammad Naim and his father in September, Israeli intelligence said.
“The timing of the meeting between the two indicates possible involvement of Hamas leadership in advancing terrorism in Europe, granting authority and approval to operatives to promote attacks,” the Mossad stated.
The spy agency noted that Hamas leadership’s involvement in promoting terrorist activity from Qatar “is not being revealed for the first time,” even though senior figures repeatedly deny it publicly as part of efforts to protect the organization’s image, adding that the leadership’s sweeping denials “may indicate a loss of control over rogue operatives.”
The probe has also focused on potential links between European operatives and Hamas elements in Turkey, which Israeli intelligence described as a convenient operational hub for the organization.
In November, German authorities arrested Burhan al-Khatib, a prominent operative in the network, after he had stayed in Turkey following what the Mossad described as the completion of his operational activities on European soil.
A month earlier, German police arrested three alleged Hamas operatives on suspicion of attempting to procure weapons for attacks, seizing an AK-47 assault rifle, handguns, and ammunition, Israeli media reported.
Hamas has denied any connection to the three men, even as German prosecutors accuse them of acting on behalf of the terror group to secure weapons for attacks on Jewish targets.
Earlier this month, German police announced the arrest in London of a 39-year-old British man on a German warrant, suspected of links to the alleged Hamas members in Germany who are accused of plotting attacks on Jewish targets, prosecutors said.
According to Germany’s Federal Prosecutor, the suspect had been given five handguns and ammunition, which he transported to Vienna for storage.
Austria’s state intelligence agency seized the arms in Vienna after probing what the country’s interior ministry described as a “globally active terrorist organization with close ties” to Hamas.
In February, four alleged Hamas members went on trial in Berlin on charges of plotting attacks against Jewish institutions in Germany — in what prosecutors described as the first court case against Hamas terrorists in the country.
According to the Mossad, European authorities have expanded their efforts beyond security operations into the legal-political sphere, targeting Hamas-linked organizations used for fundraising and recruiting operatives, including associations and religious institutions that operate under humanitarian or cultural cover.
“The partnership of European security and law-enforcement authorities in the global campaign against the terrorist threat posed by Hamas reflects a growing international understanding of the intensifying danger and their determination to thwart any Hamas terrorist activity on their soil,” the statement said.
Since the October 7 massacre, the Mossad said, Hamas has intensified efforts to build infrastructure and recruit terror cells in Europe and other arenas, similar to the Iranian regime and its proxies.
“The Mossad, together with its partners in the Israeli and international intelligence and security community, is leading extensive efforts to thwart terrorism targeting Israeli, Jewish, and innocent civilian targets worldwide,” the agency said, adding it continues working to thwart dozens of attack plots globally as part of its responsibility for counterterrorism abroad.
Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egypt-founded Islamist movement that has sought to establish networks across Europe for decades.
A French government report released in May found that the Muslim Brotherhood embarked upon a decades-long effort to infiltrate European institutions and radicalize Muslim communities, describing the movement’s bid to build a “fifth column” in Europe and pursue a renewed “Western conquest strategy” while masking its aims behind campaigns against “Islamophobia.”
The French intelligence paper also flagged Turkey as providing “essential logistical and financial support” to the Muslim Brotherhood’s European branch — a warning that dovetails with the Mossad’s description of Turkey as a convenient operational hub for Hamas activity on the continent.

[IsraelTimes] Activists gather in Manhattan to demonstrate against event for immigration to Israel, chanting to ‘globalize the intifada’ and accosting Jews
Anti-Zionist protesters chanted for an intifada and heckled Jews at a demonstration outside a prominent New York City synagogue on Wednesday night.
The demonstrators gathered outside the Park East Synagogue in Manhattan to protest against an event held by Nefesh B’nefesh, an organization that helps Jews immigrate to Israel.
Around 200 demonstrators chanted “Death to the IDF,” “We don’t want no Zionists here,” and, “Resistance you make us proud, take another settler out.”
“From New York to Gaza, globalize the intifada,” they chanted, to the beat of a drum.
A protest leader told the crowd, “It is our duty to make them think twice before holding these events. We need to make them scared. We need to make them scared. We need to make them scared.”
A smaller crowd of Jewish counter-protesters gathered on the sidewalk opposite the anti-Zionist demonstrators, separated by police and metal barricades, with the synagogue entrance in between.
The two groups shouted curses at each other and flashed bright flashlights in each other’s faces.
The Jewish group blew horns and whistles and shouted, “You’re cowards,” “Fuck Palestine,” and, “You’re protesting at a synagogue.”
The anti-Zionist group also berated the police officers at the scene.
The two groups were largely kept separate by police, but some shouting and shoving matches broke out on the sidelines.
A man in a kippah cursed at a protester, who shouted at him, “You’re part of a death cult.” Another woman shouted, “Fucking Jewish pricks,” while others called the Jewish demonstrators “rapists,” “racists,” and “pedophiles.”
Inside the synagogue, the event carried on, with Nefesh B’nefesh staffers welcoming attendees at a table near the front door.
The protest was led by the anti-Zionist activist group Pal-Awda, and advertised by other organizations around the city, such as the city’s branch of Jewish Voice for Peace and an array of student groups, including from Columbia University.
Pal-Awda advertised the event as, “No settlers on stolen land. Protest the settler recruiting fair.”
Nefesh B’nefesh does not direct immigrants to settlements; anti-Zionist activists often brand all Jewish Israelis as “settlers” to delegitimize Jewish existence in Israel.
There have been thousands of anti-Israel protests in New York City since the Hamas attack, the NYPD has said.
Demonstrations outside synagogues are uncommon, but tend to be especially vitriolic. Right-wing Jewish groups circulated calls to join the counter-demonstration before the protest, saying, “Silence is not an option.”
Protests at synagogues in the US have also sparked several lawsuits against the organizers, alleging infringement on the right to freedom of worship.
There have been several protests in New York and in nearby New Jersey against synagogues hosting events that market real estate in Israel, some also organized by Pal-Awda.
The synagogues do not organize the events, organizers rent out space in the buildings.
Jewish New Yorkers have repeatedly expressed concern over how mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will respond to protests at synagogues and in Jewish neighborhoods. Mamdani last year defended the protest slogan “globalize the intifada,” which was used at the Wednesday protest, then said he would “discourage” its use after coming under massive pressure.
The protest chant “Death to the IDF” was popularized by the British punk rap duo Bob Vylan, who led the crowd in the chant during the UK’s Glastonbury music festival in June.
The chant was not previously common at New York City demonstrations, but broke out repeatedly at the synagogue protest.
Five individuals pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists in connection with a July 4 shooting at the Alvarado ICE Detention Center.
The Justice Department alleged an "Antifa cell" carried out the attack, which injured a police officer with gunfire and fireworks.
The defendants face up to 15 years in prison; the plea marks the first time Antifa has been targeted with a material support to terrorism charge.
The charges brought by the Justice Department followed President Donald Trump signing an executive order that designates Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. Federal prosecutors say an ‘Antifa cell’ carried out the attack that included gunfire and fireworks aimed toward the immigration facility.

[NYPOST] A raid at a sex and human trafficking operation in San Antonio operated by members of Tren de Aragua gang (TdA) resulted in at least 140 illegal immigrants being arrested, authorities said Monday.
The raid was part of a joint operation between the Texas Department of Public Safety and federal and local authorities, Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott said.
On Monday, a regional Homeland Security Task Force was created to combat transnational criminal organizations.
The aim of the task force is to dismantle drug cartels, foreign terrorist organizations, and criminal networks responsible for crimes like human trafficking, drug smuggling, and money laundering.
Sunday's raid was part of President Donald Trump's executive order issued on Jan. 20 targeting transnational criminal organizations.
Teams are in UP, Bihar and Uttarakhand to verify identities as many users relied on pseudonyms and discussions were tightly moderated.
Delhi Police are probing two "closed user groups" on encrypted messaging apps, created in 2021 and comprising members from the medical fraternity. While their link to the Red Fort blast module is still unclear, Sherlocks said they have fanned out across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand to trace the members and examine their possible connection to the larger conspiracy.
At least seven members of these groups — most of them medical professionals — are under the scanner of the Delhi Police special cell teams assisting the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the blast probe, officers aware of the matter said. None of the seven have any connection with al-Falah University, which has emerged as the focal point of the multi-agency investigation after the alleged "white-collar" terror network was traced to the campus and to Umar Un Nabi — the 35-year-old doctor-turned jacket wallah.
Teams are currently camping in Deoband and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, and in parts of Bihar and Uttarakhand, to identify, track and question the seven suspects believed to be linked to Nabi, a doctor from Jammu and Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... , at least two people aware of the matter said.
"We have found that the Telegram and Signal groups were tightly controlled spaces with restricted membership and guarded conversations. The Telegram group was created in 2021 — a year after the northeast Delhi riots. Its timing has prompted Sherlocks to examine whether the polarisation and tension following the riots played a role in drawing these individuals together," a senior officer said.
Another officer said Sherlocks are still working to confirm the real identities of the members, many of whom used pseudonyms and code words. While some information from the Telegram has helped police narrow down the seven suspects, they are yet to receive data from the second platform.
"Retrieving older chats from 2021 and 2022 is almost impossible, but Sherlocks are trying to piece together how the groups formed, how members found each other, who moderated discussions, and what was being exchanged," the officer added.
A Delhi court on Tuesday sent 20-year-old Jasir Bilal Wani, alleged co-conspirator in the Red Fort bomb blast case, to 10 days of custody to the National Investigation Agency.
The accused was produced before Principal Districts and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna of Patiala House Courts, amid tight security led by paramilitary forces.Bilal was formally arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police and handed over to the NIA on Monday, which secured his transit remand and brought him to the capital.

NIA had stated that Wani allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the bomb blast.

A Delhi court had on Monday remanded another accused, Rashid Mir, NIA’s first arrest in the case, to 10 days in NIA’s custody. The agency had claimed in its remand that Mir provided logistical support to the main accused and purported suicide bomber who died in the blast, Umar Nabi, by assisting him in obtaining the i20 car that exploded in an arterial road near the historic Red Fort and weapons.
While Wani was represented by a legal aid lawyer, the NIA was represented by Special Public Prosecutors Kushdeep Gaur and Anil Dabas.
Wani was a neighbour of brothers Adil and Muzaffar Rather, two doctors who are allegedly part of the terror module behind the Red Fort blast. While Muzaffar is believed to be in Afghanistan at present, his younger brother Adil was arrested from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Wani’s father, Bilal Ahmad Wani, had set himself ablaze on Sunday after police picked up his son and brother for questioning on Saturday. He died of his injuries on Monday.
Wani’s aunt Naseema said, “He kept in touch with the doctor as he was a doctor and the family had no suspicion that he was doing something else. My husband and Jasir were picked up by police. My husband is innocent and should be released. We belong to a very simple family.”
Red Fort blast: Role of rented i10 car in blast plot under lens
Nov 19 Officers from Delhi and Faridabad police said the car was rented and used between October 24 and 27, and could have been used in the movement of ammonium nitrate and other chemicals later recovered from the Faridabad accommodation of key accused Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie.
Investigators probing the deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort suspect that a fifth vehicle – a rented Hyundai i10 – was used by the so-called “white collar” terror module to transport explosive material across Delhi-NCR in the days leading up to the attack. Officers from Delhi and Faridabad police said the car was rented and used between October 24 and 27, and could have beenused in the movement of ammonium nitrate and other chemicals later recovered from the Faridabad accommodation of key accused Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie.
The discovery brings the total number of vehicles used by the module to five: the i20 in which suicide bomber Umar un-Nabi died; the red EcoSport registered in Umar’s name later found in a Faridabad village; a white Swift Dzire owned by accused Dr Shaheen Shahid; a silver Maruti Brezza bought by Shahid on September 25; and now the rented i10 traced this week.
Special Cell officers said they suspect Umar used the i10 to transport large quantities of ammonium nitrate purchased from shops across Faridabad, Delhi and parts of Haryana. Days before the blast, police recovered around 2,900kg of explosive precursors from Ganaie’s room and other locations in Faridabad.
“We have traced the i10. It belongs to a taxi owner who rented it for three days. The man who took it refused a driver and paid between ₹4,000 and ₹5,000. We will now seize the vehicle, send it for forensic examination, and show the taxi owner and driver Umar’s photograph to confirm whether he was the one who took the car,” an investigator said.
The car had no GPS device, making route reconstruction difficult. Police teams are now scanning CCTV footage from outside fertiliser stores and chemical suppliers across Delhi-NCR to map the vehicle’s movement. A second senior officer said the probe is also examining whether multiple rented vehicles were used to move explosive materials. “Initial questioning (of Shahid) indicates he frequently rented cars without drivers. It appears likely that several vehicles were used over months,” the officer said.
The focus on another vehicle comes even as images circulating on social media on Monday showed Dr Shahid and Dr Muzammil standing beside a car seized earlier, the Brezza, on the day of its purchase. Police officials confirmed the photograph was genuine. Both doctors, and Adeel Rather, an associate based in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, were arrested in a probe triggered by anti-India posters that appeared in Nowgam, Srinagar. Subsequent raids led to the recovery of explosive precursors as well the arrest of a cleric based in Faridabad.
Delhi Police Special Cell officials said they have questioned more than 50 people in the last week to determine whether the module had additional associates in the Capital. “We are ensuring there are no remaining caches or individuals linked to Umar’s mission,” an officer said.
The findings, based on a forensic sweep of Room No 13, suggest that Umar may have stored explosive materials in the room – either as stock, in test batches, or while assembling components of the bomb later used in the November 10 Red Fort blast, a senior police officer said. Umar died in the explosion after he allegedly detonated an improvised device inside a Hyundai i20, killing at least 11 others.
Police believe the module had prepared for “serial blasts” based on the quantity of material recovered across locations. Officers said the bomb that destroyed the i20 contained 30-40kg of a mixture of ammonium nitrate and triacetone triperoxide (TATP). “The traces found in the room match what we recovered from the blast site,” an investigator said.
Meanwhile, police said Umar’s close associate and fellow doctor, Dr Shaheen Shahid, has made key disclosures about the group’s operations. Shaheen, who allegedly visited Pakistan at least three times, told investigators that Umar was the “central planner” of the module and that the group used university space – including parts of the laboratory – to study explosive compounds.
Documents and academic research papers in Shaheen’s name were recovered from the campus lab. Police said three expired passports with different addresses were found in her possession, and she had recently applied for a fresh passport in Lucknow. Officers also identified seven bank accounts linked to her.
Investigators said Shaheen, Umar and another associate, Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie, had travelled to Turkey and Pakistan, where they allegedly met their Jaish-e-Mohammad handler, identified as Dr Ukasha. “We have verified their foreign travel and have proof of meetings with their handler in Turkey,” a senior officer from the Special Cell said.

"Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from Indian sponsored killed khwarij, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in these areas," the military's media wing said.
"Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other Indian sponsored kharji found in the area," it added.
The army vowed to continue a relentless counterterrorism campaign, along with law enforcement agencies, under the vision of "Azm-e-Istehkam" at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
Fresh IBOs were followed by the security forces' action in the KP province, in which they neutralised 23 Indian-sponsored gunnies in separate engagements from November 16 to 17.

KP alone recorded over 600 terror incidents, in which at least 79 police personnel were martyred alongside 138 civilians, during the first eight months of 2025, according to a police report.
Pakistain has consistently urged the Afghan Taliban to abide by the Doha agreement in 2020, in which they committed to not allowing their soil to be used against any country.
Of course the Taliban never intended to be bound by that agreement, being even more pure than the Government of the Pure. More fools the Paks to believe that they might.
[IsraelTimes] An Al Jazeera journalist is shot and injured while covering a Palestinian protest in the West Bank that was dispersed by IDF soldiers, according to AFP journalists who saw the incident.
The demonstrators were protesting their evacuation by Israel from the Nur Shams refugee camp on the edge of Tulkarem in the northern West Bank.
“Al Jazeera cameraman Fadi Yassin was shot in the leg by Israeli forces in the city of Tulkarem,” Al Jazeera, which is based in Qatar, reports.
The journalist was evacuated by ambulance after being shot while working in the middle of a crowd of about 150, AFP journalists report. "working": covering or leading?
“His condition is stable and we managed to control the bleeding,” Palestinian Red Crescent Society paramedic Abdullah Nairat, who handled the medical evacuation, tells AFP. “A bullet entered his right leg from the outside, passed through, and hit his left thigh.”
Nur Shams residents were demonstrating to return to their homes inside the camp, which was evacuated in early 2025 during an ongoing IDF operation in several refugee camps in the northern West Bank. The military says its months-long operation in the territory’s north is aimed at cracking down on terrorists in the camps.
After gunshots rang out from inside Nur Shams, Yassin fell, AFP journalists report. He was then carried to an ambulance.
IDF soldiers then walked down from inside the camp and began to disperse the crowd, briefly detaining two demonstrators and a cameraman for Jordanian television channel Roya.
When asked for comment by AFP, the IDF says it is looking into the incident.
The Shin Bet says it has busted a major weapons-smuggling ring operating between Syria and northern Israel, arresting 12 suspects, including five IDF soldiers, four Israeli civilians, and three Syrian nationals.
… soldiers repeatedly crossed the border near the Syrian Druze town of Hader, bringing back weapons that were later transferred to criminal groups in northern Israel.
One of the soldiers is identified as Master Sgt. Iyad Halabi, 45, from Yarka; the others are Suheil Maadi, Salah Hanfis, Amal Aslim, and Yazen Salah.
The smuggling network allegedly attempted to transfer a large cache of arms, including explosives, RPGs, assault rifles, and significant ammunition - shortly before the arrests.
Last month, during an overnight raid in the Hader area, IDF troops seized dozens of weapons and detained three Syrian smugglers. The Shin Bet says the arms were intended for Rami Abu Shaah, 49, from Shefa-Amr, who maintained direct contact with one of the Syrian detainees.

IDF launches airstrikes across Gaza after troops come under fire

The military said that no soldiers were maimed in the attack. The gunfire took place in IDF-held territory, on the eastern side of the Yellow Line that, since the onset of the truce, has split the Gaza Strip between Israeli and Hamas control.
The Israel Defense Forces said the shooting was a violation of the nearly six-week-old ceasefire in the Strip. The clash was the latest incident to test the truce, which has so far held despite several bouts of conflict.
Since the ceasefire deal took effect on October 10, IDF troops have remained in control of slightly more than half of Gaza, with the rest under de-facto Hamas control, as US-backed efforts to disarm the terror group and install a multinational peacekeeping force slowly proceed.
The IDF has said it remains deployed in Gaza "in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat."
Paleostinian medics and Hamas-linked authorities reported that 25 people were killed by the Israeli airstrikes, split between the Gaza City neighborhood of Zeitoun in the north and around Khan Younis in the south. The figure did not differentiate between combatants and civilians.
The strike in Zeitoun hit a building belonging to Moslem religious authorities, and the Khan Younis attack was on a UN-run club, both of which house displaced families, according to Hamas authorities. The IDF strikes had targeted senior Hamas field commanders, according to military sources.
Israeli defense officials were assessing on Wednesday whether the commander of Hamas’s Zeitoun Battalion in Gaza City, and the chief of the terror group’s naval forces, were killed in the strikes.
Hamas denounced the strikes as a "dangerous escalation," warning they jeopardized a fragile ceasefire.
"We consider this a dangerous escalation through which the war criminal [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu seeks to resume the genocide against our people," Hamas wrote in a statement.
Also on Wednesday, the IDF said it killed a terror operative who crossed the Yellow Line in northern Gaza. The military said several operatives had been spotted crossing the line and approaching reservists of the Carmeli Brigade deployed to the area.
The operatives "posed an immediate threat" to the troops, who then opened fire and "eliminated a terrorist to remove the threat," the military said. The other operatives apparently managed to flee.
Three IDF soldiers have been killed in attacks blamed on Hamas since the beginning of the ceasefire. Paleostinian authorities say Israeli forces have killed 305 people in strikes on Gaza since the truce began, nearly half of them in one day when Israel retaliated for an attack on its troops.
The violence occurred as efforts to advance the ceasefire are ongoing. The plan envisages Hamas disarming and an International Stabilization Force, made up of troops from a number of countries, taking responsibility for Gaza’s security. Progress on assembling the force has been slow, with few countries appearing eager to contribute troops.
The Trump administration appeared to side with Israel after the deadly exchange of fire on Wednesday.
"After the United Nations overwhelmingly endorsed President Trump’s 20 Point Peace Plan, Hamas is clearly lashing out and is now attempting to break the ceasefire and not fulfill their commitment to demilitarize and surrender control of the Gaza government. These desperate tactics will fail," a US official told The Times of Israel in a statement.
The US has claimed Hamas leaders committed to disarm during a meeting on the eve of the Gaza ceasefire signing last month, but the terror group has repeatedly and publicly said it would not do so.
A European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... official said the bloc wants to train up to 3,000 Paleostinian coppers in the Gaza Strip under a program similar to one it already runs in the West Bank.
There will be a "need to stabilize Gaza with an important police force" if the ceasefire endures, said the official, who was granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.
Under the US-backed peace plan, the international force would work with Israel and Egypt and newly trained Paleostinian police to help secure border areas and demilitarize Gaza. Egypt has also said it is training Paleostinian police to be deployed in Gaza.
The EU has financed a police training mission in the West Bank since 2006, with a budget of around 13 million euros ($15 million).
Around 7,000 police in Gaza are still on the payroll of the Paleostinian Authority, which governs parts of the West Bank, the EU official said. Many have retired or are unable to work, but about 3,000 could be trained, he added.
The training would take place outside of the Gaza Strip, he said.
Alongside the talks on security arrangements, Hamas is also obligated, under the ceasefire, to return all of the hostages it is holding. It has released all of the living and most of the dear departed hostages more than two years after they were kidnapped in the terror group’s October 7, 2023, attack. But the bodies of three slain hostages remain in Gaza, with the terror group saying it cannot find or access some of them. Israel has cast doubt on those claims.
US envoy Steve Witkoff, who has been a key broker of the ceasefire talks, had been slated to meet with top Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya in Istanbul on Wednesday. But the meeting was canceled because a prior meeting between Witkoff and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was also called off, an Arab diplomat told The Times of Israel.

Hamas has reasserted its authority over the parts of Gaza that it controls. A Gaza company that operates water desalination plants serving nearly half of the enclave’s population said Tuesday that it had resumed operations after Hamas-led security agents freed a staff member they had detained on Monday.
A statement issued by the Abdul Salam Yassin Company, whose services reach more than 1 million people, said the decision to resume operations came after the issue was resolved, adding that the staff member is "fine and in good health."
The company apologized for what it said was a "misunderstanding" that led to the detention of its employee. It affirmed its respect for the Hamas-led government.
[NAHARNET] Two soldiers were killed on Tuesday night in a clash between the army and wanted drug dealers in the Sharawneh neighborhood of Baalbek.
Three other soldiers were wounded during the clashes and the wanted drug dealer, who fired at the army, was killed.
The army said the man had previously fired at army patrols in many occasions, had killed four soldiers and wounded an officer, and had committed many other crimes including kidnapping, theft, robbery at gunpoint, and drug trafficking.
Large quantities of drugs and weapons were seized.

IDF reports recent destruction of Hezbollah missile depot in southern Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday said it launched a wave of airstrikes against Hezbollah weapons depots in southern Lebanon, as the military ramped up strikes aimed at preventing the Iran-backed terror group from rearming.
The weapon depots in Deir Kifa, Shehour, Tayr Felsay and Aynata belonged to Hezbollah’s rocket unit, according to the military.
The IDF said the arms caches were placed in “the heart of a civilian population,” which it said is “another example of the cynical use by the Hezbollah terror organization of Lebanese civilians as human shields.”
“The presence of weapons storage facilities constitutes a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the army added.
Before the strikes, the IDF issued evacuation warnings for Lebanese civilians in the four villages.
The IDF published footage of the strikes. Additional footage posted by Lebanese media showed the strike on a building in Shehour.
The military also said on Wednesday that Hezbollah has been working to restore its infrastructure in the southern Lebanon village of Beit Lif, in a “blatant” violation of the ceasefire.
The IDF said it has located dozens of Hezbollah sites in the village, including command centers and weapon depots.
“The terror organization places these inside civilian homes of village residents and near civilian buildings and facilities,” the military said.
The IDF said Hezbollah activities in Beit Lif are “one of many examples of Hezbollah’s attempts to rebuild its assets throughout Lebanon, with an emphasis on rural areas.”
“The presence of these terror infrastructures and the organization’s activity in these areas constitute a grave violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the military said, adding that Hezbollah “continues to endanger the villages and their residents and exploits the civilian environment to advance terror activities.”
The IDF said it reported some of the Hezbollah sites in Beit Lif to the US-led international mechanism overseeing the ceasefire, “but were not addressed.”
“The IDF will continue to monitor these violations and act against them in order to remove any threat and protect the State of Israel,” the army added.
Earlier on Wednesday, the IDF confirmed carrying out a drone strike in southern Lebanon, saying it killed a Hezbollah operative.
The target of the strike in the town of at-Tiri was involved in efforts to “reestablish Hezbollah’s readiness in the area,” the military said.
The IDF said the operative’s actions “constituted a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”
According to Lebanese media, a school bus passed by the area at the time of the strike, resulting in the injury of the driver and several students.
The strikes came a day after 13 people were killed in an Israeli strike on a Palestinian refugee camp in south Lebanon — the worst raid since a ceasefire took effect last year between Israel and Hezbollah.
The IDF confirmed the strike, saying it targeted terror operatives at a Hamas training facility.
Contrary to some preliminary Lebanese reports, the Israeli strike targeted a building some 60 meters from the Khalid bin al-Walid mosque, and not the mosque itself.
