[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A man who followed and sexually assaulted a woman inside a Compton store was shot and killed by a ‘brave’ female shopper, Los Angeles police said.
The violence unfolded on Sunday at 3.21pm at the Pink Beauty Supply store in Compton, about 16 miles from Los Angeles.
The man entered the store ‘following’ the woman and groped her, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Employees asked him to leave but the man became ‘increasingly verbally assaultive’ towards the people in the store and started throwing merchandise around.
He began brandishing an object in his hand which terrified onlookers feared was a knife.
The man said he was going to 'kill and harm everyone in the store', authorities added.
At that point, a separate woman in the store retrieved her gun and fired a ‘warning shot’ at the man.
The sound prompted him to spin around which led the woman to believe that she was in danger.
She then fired another shot and killed the man.
The Compton Fire Department pronounced him dead on the scene.
'It's crazy to me because children go in there a lot, so what if I was there by myself and that just automatically went off? I could've gotten hit or something could've happened to me,’ an unnamed witness told KABC.
'I'm glad that the woman that did it was brave enough to even go and do something like that to save somebody else.'
The man had a criminal record that included assaults, robberies and thefts, CBS LA reported.
Locals were in disbelief at the shooting.
‘Why would somebody do that here?’ Almond Le Joice, a Pink Beauty Supply customer, said.
The woman who fired the gunshot and killed the man is 'cooperating with detectives,' per NBC Los Angeles citing the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
