After the meeting where Roberts was placed on leave, Norris said his arrest had made for a 'jarring day,' but that officials 'do not have all the facts.'
'There is much we do not know,' she said. 'However, what we do know is that Dr. Roberts has been an integral part of our school community since he joined over two years ago.'
Republicans in the state legislature have launched an investigation into how Roberts was able to be hired in the first place.
After Roberts's arrest, more than 200 Des Moines residents swarmed the downtown Iowa area to protest.
Rallying protestors chanted 'free Dr. Roberts' and 'no justice no peace' while holding signs that read 'release our superintendent,' KCCI reported.
ICE said Roberts was arrested because he was in the country illegally, did not have work authorization and had been subject to a final removal order since May of last year.

The agency also said he had a weapons possession charge dating from February 2020 that was still pending.
Agents attempted to stop Roberts while he was driving in a school-issued car before he sped away into a wooded area and abandoned the vehicle. Iowa State Patrol later found him hiding in a brush south of the abandoned car.
Police said they found a loaded gun, a fixed blade hunting knife and $3,000 cash in his car.
Roberts was held in the Woodbury County Jail in Sioux City, in northwest Iowa, about 150 miles from Des Moines.
'This suspect was arrested in possession of a loaded weapon in a vehicle provided by Des Moines Public Schools after fleeing federal law enforcement,' said ICE Enforcement Removal Operations St. Paul Field Office Director Sam Olson.

In a Substack post, Ravers for Paleostine urged the Origins music festival to cancel Israeli DJ Roi Perez’s set, accusing him of "making apartheid look like a party," despite his record of advocating for Israeli-Paleostinian peace and LGBTQ+ rights.
"This is a DJ who encodes, via his plucky province-to-metropole settler backstory and appropriation of Black house music, the colonial narrative of a benevolent, queer-friendly liberal Zionism," the blog post read.
The Origins organizers wrote in a temporary post on Instagram — now preserved elsewhere online — that it had canceled the event after learning of concerns about Perez’s "background" from Ravers for Paleostine.
"We have read the recent statement from Ravers for Paleostine and want to be absolutely clear that as a collective, we firmly and unequivocally support Paleostinian liberation," Origins said. "We do not want to take any action that undermines that struggle or risks platforming voices in ways that contribute to the ongoing genocide and Israel’s settler-colonial project."
Ravers for Paleostine specifically condemned a fundraiser hosted by Perez’s collective Laundrette in Berlin in November 2023.
In announcing the event, Laundrette said it had considered canceling given the "ongoing tragic events." But instead, the collective decided to "emphasize our belief in coexistence and our hope for peace" and donate the proceeds to three nonprofits, including the coexistence group Standing Together.
"The funds will directly help survivors and evacuees of the 7/10 massacre, unsheltered Bedouin communities, displaced Paleostinian communities due to settler violence, queer arabs in both Israel & Paleostine in need of professional psycho-social counseling and other underserved groups," Laundrette wrote.
Ravers for Paleostine argued that the language was a way of downplaying Israel’s treatment of Paleostinians, calling Perez and his Israeli supporters "settlers" themselves.
"Let’s be clear—’peace’ in this context is a euphemism for the orderly annihilation of Paleostinian life," the blog post read. "Any settler advocating for ’coexistence,’ rather than full decolonization and right of return, supports the colonial occupation of Paleostine and its continuance."
Origins’ decision to cancel Perez’s set, which would have taken place at the London nightclub FOLD, has drawn condemnation online, with many noting Perez’s outspoken advocacy for Paleostinians.

Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, who was also an activist for Palestine Action until the group was proscribed as a terrorist organisation in July, announced on Friday that “the UK ‘israel’ lobby has pressured my government and medical board into referring me to a tribunal hearing to try and suspend me for opposing genocide. This is Britain. We are occupied.”
She went on to say: “I am a part-Palestinian British NHS doctor. I am facing the suspension of my medical licence”, and claimed that “this is not the result of any professional failure, but the outcome of a coordinated lobbying campaign against me because of my public stance against the genocide in Gaza being carried out with my tax pounds.”
In reality, as Jewish News readers will be aware, Aladwan has repeatedly and continuously made highly inflammatory statements about Jews, including the claim that “the UK is occupied and controlled by Jewish supremacy – in fact most Christian majority countries are” and that “Rabbis need to reject the Amalek commandment and the notion that non-jews are lesser than goyim.”

Aladwan’s referral to the IOT does not guarantee that she will no longer be able to practice medicine in the UK. Jewish News reported last month about how a friend of Aladwan’s, Dr Rehiana Ali, had her suspension lifted by the IOT, despite her having similarly regularly posted diatribes about “Jewish extremism”, including sharing a claim that “Judaism is the only religion in human history whose religious texts (e.g., Mishneh Torah) literally prescribe a sacred command to kill every Christian on earth”, with her own statement above the claim saying “I think people need to address jewish extremism especially Christians.” She also shared a wide range of conspiracy theories about Jews, including the false claim that “4,000 Jews did not show up to work” on 9/11 and an attempt to ask whether Richard Nixon’s identification of a number of people as Jewish in White House tape recordings “explained” the Watergate scandal which led to his resignation.

Pak media have reported that the government has decided to close 16 Afghan refugee camps located in Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. The decision reflects Islamabad’s continued policy shift on Afghan refugees.
According to Dawn, the camps set for closure include Haripur, Chitral and Upper Dir in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa; Chagai, Loralai, Killa Saifullah, Pishin and Quetta in Balochistan; and Mianwali in Punjab.
Around 13,000 families, amounting to more than 90,000 Afghan refugees, currently live in these camps. Reports indicate that no raids, arrests or coercive measures have been used so far to push residents out.

The complaint, filed on behalf of an Israeli whose family was murdered and kidnapped on October 7, demanded an investigation and arrest warrants for Ali Khameni, Iran’s Supreme Leader; and Esmail Qaani, the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The filing charges Iran with complicity in crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide, arguing that Tehran supported the Hamas ..a regional Iranian catspaw,... attack with training, weapons, direction and coordination. The complaint was sent by mail to the court earlier this month and filed digitally on Friday.
"The IRGC, at the direction of the Iranian regime and specifically Khamenei and Qaani, knowingly and intentionally provided weapons to Hamas for the purpose of killing Jews, Israelis, and other affiliated members of a protected group," the complaint said.
The complaint was filed for Maurice Shnaider, the uncle of Shiri Bibas. Bibas was kidnapped by Hamas and murdered in captivity along with her two young sons, Ariel and Kfir. Shnaider’s sister, Margit Shnaider Silberman, and his brother-in-law, Yossi Silberman, were also murdered on October 7.
"Because these Iranian officials were aware and provided material support to Hamas’s taking of hostages, among whom were the Bibas family, it is imperative that warrants be sought for Khamenei and Qaani," the complaint said.
The complaint was filed by Eli Rosenbaum, a former US Justice Department war crimes prosecutor; and Elliot Malin, a human rights One man's rights are another man's existential threat. advocate and attorney based in Nevada.
The filing is an Article 15 complaint, which allows any person or organization to submit information to the ICC’s Office of the Prosecutor for the basis of an investigation, according to the Rome Statute, the 1998 treaty that established the ICC.

The complaint tied the October 7 attack to the Nazi genocide, saying that five generations of Shnaider’s family have been killed for being Jewish during the two conflicts.
"My family, the Shnaider family, had multiple generations tortured and murdered at the hands of those who persecute people of Jewish heritage," Shnaider said in a statement. "’Never Again’ was supposed to mean something, so today we demand justice for my lost and affected family, and so many others also with loss at the hands of bandidosDeath Eaters just for being Jewish."
The complaint charged Khamenei and Qaani with murder, extermination, torture, and persecution — all crimes against humanity; the war crimes of hostage-taking and attacking civilians; and genocide.
The filing said the Iranians provided material support for Hamas’s alleged crimes with full knowledge of the terror group’s intentions. The lawyers cited evidence for this link, including a US federal investigation filed in a New York court last year. Iran has also confirmed its links to the attack and has reportedly funneled tens of millions of dollars to Hamas, the complaint noted.
"We coordinated with Hezbollah and with Iran and the Axis before, during, and after this battle at the highest level," a Hamas official said days after the October 2023 attack.
The complaint also cited past attacks by Iranian-linked perpetrators against Jews and Israelis, such as the AMIA Jewish center bombing in Buenos Aires in 1994, arguing that such attacks were genocidal under international law.
Hamas officials, including late leader Yahya Sinwar, have publicly thanked Iran for providing the terrorist group with missiles used to attack Israeli civilians, the complaint said, adding that both Hamas and Iran have stated their goal of exterminating Israelis, a crime against humanity. Iran also bombarded Israeli civilians with missiles earlier this year, the complaint noted.
The international legal definition of genocide requires evidence of intent to destroy a group of people, a high legal bar. The complaint said statements by leaders of Hamas and Iran were clear evidence of genocidal intent.
The filing drew an implicit comparison with the ICC’s case against Netanyahu and Gallant and the International Court of Justice’s allegations of genocide against Israel. The ICC prosecutes individuals, while the ICJ adjudicates disputes between states. Both courts are located in The Hague.
Those cases cited statements by Israeli leaders, such as Netanyahu invoking the biblical enemy Amalek and Gallant stating that Israel was fighting "human animals." Israel’s opponents argued the statements indicated genocidal intent, while its defenders said they were ambiguous, and that Israeli leaders had also repeatedly vowed to adhere to the laws of war to minimize civilian casualties.

The statements from Iranian leaders cited in the complaint were not ambiguous.

The Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on Sunday hoisted the Syrian flag alongside its own at the Semalka border crossing between the Kurdistan Region and Rojava for the first time.
The Semalka border crossing is a strategic point linking Rojava to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The crossing connects the town of Semalka in al-Malikiya (Derik) with the Kurdistan Region’s Duhok province.
