Today Barbara Stanwyck is remembered primarily as the matriarch of the family known as the Barkleys on the TV western The Big Valley (1965), wherein she played Victoria, and from the hit drama The Colbys (1985). But she was known to millions of other fans for her movie career, which spanned the period from 1927 until 1964, after which she appeared on television until 1986. It was a career that lasted for 59 years.
Barbara Stanwyck was born Ruby Catherine Stevens on July 16, 1907, in Brooklyn, New York, to working class parents Catherine Ann (McPhee) and Byron E. Stevens. Her father, from Massachusetts, had English ancestry, and her Canadian mother, from Nova Scotia, was of Scottish and Irish descent. Stanwyck went to work at the local telephone company for fourteen dollars a week, but she had the urge (a dream--that was all it was) somehow to enter show business. When not working, she pounded the pavement in search of dancing jobs. The persistence paid off. Barbara was hired as a chorus girl for the princely sum of $40 a week, much better than the wages she was getting from the phone company. She was seventeen and was going to make the most of the opportunity that had been given her.
In 1928 Barbara moved to Hollywood, where she was to start one of the most lucrative careers filmdom had ever seen. She was an extremely versatile actress who could adapt to any role. Barbara was equally at home in all genres, from melodramas, such as Forbidden (1932) and Stella Dallas (1937), to thrillers, such as Double Indemnity (1944), one of her best films, also starring Fred MacMurray (as you have never seen him before). She also excelled in comedies such as Remember the Night (1940) and The Lady Eve (1941). Another genre she excelled in was westerns, Union Pacific (1939) being one of her first and TV's The Big Valley (1965) (her most memorable role) being her last. In 1983, she played in the ABC hit mini-series The Thorn Birds (1983), which did much to keep her in the eye of the public. She turned in an outstanding performance as Mary Carson.
Barbara was considered a gem to work with for her serious but easygoing attitude on the set. She worked hard at being an actress, and she never allowed her star quality to go to her head. She was nominated for four Academy Awards, though she never won. She turned in magnificent performances for all the roles she was nominated for, but the "powers that be" always awarded the Oscar to someone else. However, in 1982 she was awarded an honorary Academy Award for "superlative creativity and unique contribution to the art of screen acting." Sadly, Barbara died on January 20, 1990, leaving 93 movies and a host of TV appearances as her legacy to us.

Double Indemnity was a great film noir. Great performances by Stanwick,Fred MacMurray, and a scene stealing performance by Edward G. Robinson. Stanwyck was a great actress.
One of her early performances was in "Ladies They Talk About" in 1933.
A man has been arrested at the Birmingham Airport in connection with the 1996 IRA bombing in Manchester city centre, United Kingdom, the police have said.
No fewer than 250 people were maimed but no fatalities, on 15 June that year in what was described as the UK mainland's largest bomb since World War Two.
Thousands of shoppers and football fans had gathered in the city centre ahead of a Euro 1996 match later that day between England and Scotland at the Wembley Stadium in London.
The area was evacuated after the police were alerted to a telephoned bomb threat.
The device detonated soon after in a lorry parked on Corporation Street, leading to mushroom cloud rising over the city's skyline.
However, a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth... the suspect was arrested on suspicion of terror offences on Thursday night and remains in jug, according to Counter Terrorism Policing for the North West (CTPNW), according to the BBC.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it was "determined to hold those responsible for this attack to account regardless of the time passed".
The suspect, who is in police custody, will be interviewed by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing for the North West (CTPNW).
Head of investigations Det Supt Andrew Meeks said officers had been "reinvestigating for several years. Although thankfully no one was killed during the 1996 Manchester bombing by the IRA, hundreds of people were left with injuries - many of which were life changing.
"Many more across Greater Manchester and the North West were affected by what happened on that day."

[SHAFAQ] One of the most important senior executives of the ISIS/ISIS terrorist organization has been captured in Turkiye, President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important... announced on Thursday.
Terrorist Bashar Khattab Ghazal al-Sumaidai, codenamed Abu Zeid/Master Zeid, was captured in a successful operation by the Ottoman Turkish intelligence and Istanbul police, Erdogan told news hounds on the presidential plane on his way back from a three-nation Balkan tour.
"International reports and the UN Security Report also contained information that this terrorist was one of the senior executives of the ISIS terrorist organization," he noted.
Erdogan said the terrorist’s connections in Syria and Istanbul had been followed for a long time, and intelligence information was obtained that he would enter Turkiye illegally.
It was determined by the Istanbul security units that the terrorist used a fake identity, he added.
Erdogan said the terrorist was transferred to the judicial authorities on the order of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, after being questioned by the National Intelligence Organization and the Istanbul police.
A UN Security Council report published on July 11, 2022 said the terrorist took part in the management of the terror group.
According to the report, on Feb. 3, ISIS leader Amir Muhammad Sa'id Abdal-Rahman al-Salbi was killed in the US-led operation in Atmah, near the Ottoman Turkish border, and on March 10, the ISIS/ISIS announced that Abu l-Hassan al-Hashemi al-Qurashi would take his place.
Although the actual identity of Abu al-Hassan has not yet been determined, it is considered among the member states that this person is most likely Bashar Khattap Ghazal al-Sumaidai from Iraq.

[Breitbart] A Palestinian terrorist armed with an improvised submachine gun and two bombs was arrested by police officers in the central city of Jaffa on Thursday, on his way to carrying out a “massacre” in Tel Aviv, police said.
The 19-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank city of Nablus was in Israel without a permit. While standing near Jaffa’s iconic clock tower – a major tourist attraction, the teenage terrorist aroused the suspicion of officers from the elite Yassam unit.
They approached him and checked a large bag he was carrying, in which they found a makeshift machine gun often used by Palestinians and two pipe bombs filled with nails.
Police arrested the terrorist who confessed he was looking for a crowded area to explode the bombs.
“He was looking to commit a massacre,” Police Chief Kobi Shabtai said.
A Yassam officer confirmed to Breitbart the young terrorist wanted to inflict as much harm as possible.
“He wanted to ‘go big’ and be remembered as a martyr,” the officer told Breitbart.
Another suspect was detained nearby in his car, and is suspected of driving the would-be bomber to the city.
The terrorist was arrested in April after smuggling a knife into the Temple Mount compound in Jerusalem and was sentenced to four months in prison.

But unlike the N-A-T and O,
they kill 'em like injun cattle!
Families of the Beirut port blast victims stormed Friday the Justice Ministry, to protest a decision by caretaker Justice Minister Henri Khoury to name an alternate investigator in the Beirut port blast case.
The protesters were forced to leave the building by security forces members. They couldn't manage to reach the minister's office.
Dozens of relatives of the victims of the blast have been protesting since Wednesday against the decision, calling the move an attempt by the country's political class to prevent justice into one of the world's largest non-nuclear explosions.
They raised banners against the politicization of the probe.
