Warner Bros. Discovery on Thursday rejected industry calls to boycott Israeli film institutions, becoming the second major Hollywood studio to do so after Paramount.
"Warner Bros. Discovery is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for its employees, collaborators and other stakeholders. Our policies prohibit discrimination of any kind, including discrimination based on race, religion, national origin or ancestry. We believe a boycott of Israeli film institutions violates our policies," it said in a statement to US news outlets.
"While we respect the rights of individuals and groups to express their views and advocate for causes, we will continue to align our business practices with the requirements of our policies and the law."

Paramount, which is reportedly seeking to take over Warner Bros. Discovery, denounced the pledge last month, saying "silencing individual creative artists based on their nationality does not promote better understanding or advance the cause of peace"
The pledge is distinct from other previous arts and culture Israel boycotts in naming specific Israeli cultural institutions that the letter’s signatories are boycotting, including major Israeli film festivals.
The pledge does not specifically target Israeli individuals. Instead, the document says the "refusal takes aim at institutional complicity, not identity," and that "a few Israeli film entities are not complicit."
It was one of several open letters signed by prominent figures from the worlds of cinema, music and literature as the Israeli government faced growing pressure to end the nearly two-year war against Hamas in Gaza sparked by the terror group’s invasion and massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023, and urgently address the humanitarian crisis there.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] An Afghan who murdered a man and his heavily pregnant wife has been executed by a relative of the victims, under the Taliban's retaliatory punishment system.
The man was executed in front of crowds at a sports stadium in Qala-i-Naw, the capital of Badghis province, the Supreme Court said in a statement.
It was the eleventh public execution since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, according to an AFP tally.
The man was shot three times by a relative of the victims in front of thousands of onlookers, witnesses told news agencies.
The man had been 'sentenced to retaliatory punishment' for shooting a couple.
'The murderer killed two people, a man and his wife, who was around eight months pregnant,' Matiullah Muttaqi, the information chief for Badghis province, said.
The execution followed a review by three courts and final approval from Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, he said.
'The families of the victims were offered amnesty and peace but they refused,' the Supreme court statement said.
'Many people came to watch the execution, including the victims' family, who exercised their right according to Islamic law,' said Juma Khan, 36, who witnessed the event.
Official notices inviting Afghans to attend the execution were widely circulated on Wednesday.
Public executions were common during the Taliban's first rule from 1996 to 2001, with most of them carried out in sports stadiums.
The previous execution took place in April, when four men were publicly put to death in three different provinces on the same day in front of thousands of spectators, including Taliban officials.
Taliban authorities continue to employ corporal punishment - mainly flogging - for offences including theft, adultery and alcohol consumption.
However, all execution orders are signed by the Taliban's reclusive supreme leader Akhundzada, who lives in the movement's heartland of Kandahar.
Law and order is central to the Taliban's hardline ideology, which emerged from the chaos of a civil war following the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan in 1989.
The United Nations and rights groups such as Amnesty International have condemned the Taliban government's use of corporal punishment and the death penalty.

Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer fans won’t be allowed to attend a Europa League game at Aston Villa next month because of security concerns, the English club announced on Thursday, drawing condemnation from Israel as well as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The move comes after there were anti-Israel protests in recent days at the Israeli national team’s World Cup qualifiers against Norway and Italia, with police using tear gas on protesters and pro-Paleostinian demonstrators in Oslo and Udine. Last year, fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv were ambushed and violent mostly peacefully attacked by organized gangs in Amsterdam following a match against Ajax.
Ahead of the November 6 game, Aston Villa said it was following instructions from the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), a body responsible for issuing safety certificates for games at Villa Park, based on a number of physical and safety factors.
"Following a meeting this afternoon, the SAG have formally written to the club and [European soccer body] UEFA to advise no away fans will be permitted to attend Villa Park for this fixture," it said in a statement. "West Midlands Police have advised the SAG that they have public safety concerns outside the stadium bowl and the ability to deal with any potential protests on the night."
The team added that it was in "continuous dialogue with Maccabi Tel Aviv and the local authorities throughout this ongoing process, with the safety of supporters attending the match and the safety of local residents at the forefront of any decision."
Local police said on Thursday they had classified the game as "high risk" following a "thorough assessment."
"This decision is based on current intelligence and previous incidents, including violent mostly peacefulfestivities and hate crime offenses that occurred during the 2024 UEFA Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam," a spokesperson for the force said.
Maccabi Tel Aviv did not appear to have commented on the ban as of late Thursday evening, but several Israeli, British and Jewish leaders condemned the announcement.
"This is the wrong decision. We will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets," Starmer said on X. "The role of the police is to ensure all football fans can enjoy the game, without fear of violence or intimidation."
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar described Villa’s announcement as a "shameful decision" on X.
"I call on the UK authorities to reverse this coward[ly] decision," he wrote.
Ian Austin, the British trade envoy to Israel, said on X that he was "appalled" by the decision. He called on police leadership to review the ban.
"It looks like they have capitulated to a campaign by trouble-makers and abdicated their responsibility to ensure people can go about their lawful business safely," Austin’s statement said. "Birmingham is a great international city. It welcomes visitors from all over the world and they must be able to come in safely."
The London-based Jewish Leadership Council called Thursday’s decision unfair.
"It is perverse that away fans should be banned from a football match because West Midlands Police can’t guarantee their safety. Aston Villa should face the consequences of this decision and the match should be played behind closed doors," the organization said in a statement.
But Ayoub Khan, the British MP who represents Aston Villa’s home constituency and who is a harsh critic of Israel, celebrated the decision, which he had pushed for. He cited the Maccabi-Ajax game last November in Amsterdam, without noting that the Israeli fans were attacked after the match.
"I had many residents and businesses express concern of the Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from coming into our area. Clearly we have all witnessed the scenes in Amsterdam, the violence that was displayed by the fans the night before the match. We all watched and listened to those vile chants of hatred and racism. And so there’s no space for that kind of behavior here in Birmingham."
In Amsterdam, Maccabi fans chanted anti-Arab songs, vandalized a taxi and pulled down a Paleostinian flag.
Following the match, mobs of antisemitic rioters targeted and beat up the Israelis, in an apparently organized, widespread attack that resulted in injuries to Maccabi fans as well as dozens of arrests, and that was roundly condemned by Dutch and Israeli leaders.
"It’s a terrible antisemitic attack," Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said afterward. "And we will not tolerate it. And we will prosecute the perpetrators. And I am deeply ashamed that it could happen in the Netherlands in 2024."

Later, Norwegian police confirmed they had used tear gas on a group of protesters who attempted to breach the barricades surrounding the stadium as the match was being played.
Global soccer body FIFA has faced repeated calls to act against Israel over the war in Gaza, with Paleostinian officials pressing for Israel to be suspended from international soccer.
The issue has been under review by FIFA for months, but no decision has yet been taken, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino consistently saying such matters require consensus with the confederations and must be handled with caution. He recently said, "FIFA cannot solve geopolitical problems."
Earlier this month, FIFA vice president Victor Montagliani said Israel’s continued participation in international soccer has to be dealt with first and foremost by UEFA.

[FoxNews] The commander of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), whose area of operations includes the Caribbean waters where the strikes against the alleged drug boats have been conducted, announced he is retiring suddenly by the end of the year.
Navy Adm. Alvin Holsey, who became the commander of SOUTHCOM in November 2024, announced Thursday that he would retire from the Navy in December. No reason for his abrupt exit was provided, and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
"The SOUTHCOM team has made lasting contributions to the defense of our nation, and will continue to do so," Holsey said in a statement SOUTHCOM shared on social media. "I am confident that you will forge ahead, focused on your mission that strengthens our nation and ensures its longevity as a beacon of freedom around the globe."
Holsey commissioned in 1988, and flew both SH-2F Seasprite and SH-60B Seahawk helicopters. Holsey’s previous assignments include serving as the deputy commander of SOUTHCOM, as well as deputy Chief of Naval Personnel and the commander of the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson’s carrier strike group.
The New York Times first reported that Holsey was departing his post.
Holsey's retirement less than a year into his tenure leading the combatant command is unusual. Former SOUTHCOM commander, Army Gen. Laura Richardson, served in the role from 2021 to 2024.
Holsey's retirement comes as tensions heat up in his area of operations, and just a few days after the U.S. military conducted a strike against alleged narco-traffickers in the Caribbean and after the Department of War unveiled a new counter-narcotics Joint Task Force in SOUTHCOM's area of responsibility.
The Trump administration has adopted an aggressive approach to address the flow of drugs into the U.S., and designated drug cartel groups like Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa and others as foreign terrorist organizations in February.
Likewise, the White House sent lawmakers a memo Sept. 30 notifying them that the U.S. is now participating in a "non-international armed conflict" with drug smugglers, and has conducted at least five fatal strikes on alleged drug boats off the coast of Venezuela.
Even so, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have expressed doubts about the legality of the strikes, and Sens. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Tim Kaine, D-Va., filed a war powers resolution in September to prohibit U.S. forces from engaging in "hostilities" against certain non-state organizations.
Although the resolution failed in the Senate by a 51–48 margin Oct. 8, Republicans Rand Paul of Kentucky and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted with their Democratic counterparts for the resolution.
Meanwhile, Trump has signaled he is eyeing land operations now "because we've got the sea very well under control," and confirmed that he authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela, after the New York Times reported Wednesday he had approved the order.
Trump said he did so because Venezuela has released prisoners into the U.S., and that drugs were pouring into the U.S. from Venezuela through the sea routes.
One source said Holsey had questioned whether he would be fired as Hegseth sought to clear out the Pentagon.

A suspect has been identified in the January murder of an anti-Islam campaigner in Sweden, the public prosecutor there said on Monday, in a case that the Swedish prime minister has said might have links to foreign powers.
“We have a good picture of the sequence of events and after extensive technical investigations and review of obtained surveillance footage,” the prosecutor said in a statement. “At present, the suspect’s whereabouts are unknown.”
The statement did not name the suspect.
Court documents obtained by Reuters showed the suspect was a 24-year-old Syrian man who lived in Sweden at the time of the murder. It said Quran-burner Salwan Momika had been shot three times and the killing “had been preceded by careful planning.”
A detention hearing was set for Friday in a district court — a procedure under Swedish law prior to the issuance of an international wanted notice for a suspect.
Momika, an Iraqi refugee who frequently burned copies of the Quran at public rallies and stood accused of “offenses of agitation against an ethnic or national group,” was shot dead in a town near Stockholm hours before that case’s verdict. His fellow campaigner was convicted five days later.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said in January, referring to Momika’s killing, that “there is obviously a risk that there is a connection to a foreign power.”
The Quran burnings, seen by Muslims as a blasphemous act, drew widespread condemnation and complicated Sweden’s NATO accession process, which was eventually completed in 2024.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in 2023 that people who desecrate the Quran should face the “most severe punishment” and that Sweden had “gone into battle array for war on the Muslim world” by allegedly supporting those responsible.
Sweden in 2023 raised its terrorism alert to the second-highest level and warned of threats against Swedes at home and abroad after the Quran burnings. It was lowered back to three on a scale of five earlier this year.

A concert scheduled for October 25 in northern Paris by Israeli singer and actress Liraz Charhi was canceled by the planned venue, FGO-Barbara.
The venue canceled on October 7, writing on its Facebook page that the “decision, difficult but thoughtful, follows a number of elements that today do not allow us to maintain the event in conditions aligned with our values and commitments.”
The management of the venue, which is owned by the City of Paris, later apologized for the decision, saying it had been “swept away by pressure and emotion,” according to a statement sent to AFP.
In the statement, the FGO-Barbara management acknowledged the “strong reactions” triggered by its decision and issued an apology.
“We sincerely apologize for having caused discord in an international context that is already extremely divisive, marked by massive violence, deep injustices, and violations of human rights,” the venue’s wrote.
Sure, but they didn’t reverse their decision or in any way make up for it, right? Fooey.
In its statement, the FGO-Barbara management also said it had “re-established a calm dialogue” with Charhi.
Taking to social media, Charhi initially apologized to her fans for the cancellation.
“To everyone who bought tickets, made travel and hotel arrangements and planned to share that night with me, I’m so sorry. You will be so missed,” said Charhi. “But please know this: nothing will ever come between me and my fans. My art, my music, and you, are my heart.”
“In times when some try to divide us, I will always choose to unite,” added Charhi. “Through music, we will continue to create joy, connection, and unforgettable memories together.”
She added that she has missed performing, and stated that she has been canceled repeatedly over the last two years because she is Israeli.
A day later, Charhi posted that an online petition signed by nearly 2,000 people denouncing what it called the “censorship” and “boycott” of her due to her nationality led to securing a new venue in Paris.
She has been rescheduled to perform at another Paris venue, Le Café de la Danse, on October 25.
If the first site isn’t paying for it, their apology is worth nothing.
Meanwhile, in Malmo, Sweden, organizers of the Jewish International Film Festival, JIFF, are floundering as they seek a venue for screening their program, now planned for early December.
Ola Tedin, the festival director and co-founder, wrote that the organization has been stonewalled by all commercial and arthouse cinemas in the city. Organizers found a theater in August, but the owner later backed out, citing safety concerns for its staff and audience.
The festival is part of the yearlong, nationwide celebration for 250 years of Jewish life in Sweden, and includes films previously screened in Berlin, Toronto, and other film festivals.
So much for celebrating.
The board of JIFF sees no other option than to postpone the event, originally scheduled for November 29, moving it to December 2 in the hopes they’ll find another venue.
Malmo hosts several internationally acclaimed film festivals such as Nordic Panorama and MAFF, one of the largest Arab film events outside the Middle East, noted Tedin.

More than 11,000 people have signed a letter to a judge in support of a US anti-Israel activist who is set to be sentenced later this month for antisemitic hate crimes.
In June, Tarek Bazrouk, 20, pleaded guilty in a federal court in New York to attacking the individuals because of their Jewish or Israeli identity. The victims of the attacks, which took place surrounding anti-Israel protests in 2024 and early 2025, were all wearing Jewish or Israeli symbols or were otherwise identifiable as such.
Bazrouk has become a cause célèbre for anti-Israel activists across the US as leading groups, such as National Students for Justice in Paleostine, urged their followers to sign a letter to the judge in his case.
The letter seeking a lenient sentence for Bazrouk was filed in a sentencing submission to the judge on Tuesday that included close to 250 pages of signatures. Bazrouk will be sentenced on October 28 in the federal New York Southern District court.
"Tarek Bazrouk is a beloved member of the New York City community," the letter said. "We duly affirm that Tarek is not a danger to the community."
The letter sought Bazrouk’s release from incarceration on time served, meaning he would be released after the hearing, saying Bazrouk has suffered from "deep personal trauma" and has been incarcerated for six months in "inhumane conditions."
"Tarek, like many other young men in the criminal justice system, would be immeasurably harmed and further traumatized by a lengthy sentence in federal prison," the letter said. "We believe that restorative justice will be achieved through Tarek’s personal growth and evolution as a man and valued community member, not through a prison sentence."
Bazrouk, in a letter to the judge, said he was "against violence."
"I wish I could go back and redo those moments. Instead of punching and kicking others, I would result to talking and finding ways to make peace and serve justice," he wrote.
Other prominent activist groups that have backed Bazrouk include the Paleostinian Youth Movement, Within Our Lifetime, Pal-Awda, the anti-Israel campus coalition Columbia University Apartheid Divest, and other student groups around New York City.
In addition to signing the letter, Bazrouk’s supporters have donated more than $6,800 dollars to his commissary and launched a campaign to post flyers in his support around New York City.

The only survivor of that battle, Matan was kidnapped alive into Gaza, while Daniel and Itay’s bodies were taken into the strip. Itay’s body is yet to return home.
In a demonstration of just how important it was for Matan to be at Daniel’s funeral, Rabbi Doron, Daniel’s father, noted that Matan’s doctor told him not to go, and in turn, the Perez family told Matan not to come.
But Matan insisted on leaving his hospital in Tel Aviv, and despite not having written a speech, and notwithstanding that, as he told those gathered, “I can barely stand,” he eulogized his commander for six minutes, leaving the funeral’s attendees speechless.
“This is the least I can do for Daniel and for my entire team — true heroes,” Matan said. “I didn’t plan to speak. I didn’t even believe I’d make it here. But I had to come.”
“Daniel led our heroic battle that Saturday,” Matan noted, calling him “a figure to be admired. My commander will always be my commander, until the day I die. You will go with me until my last day and even in the world to come.”
At one point during his speech, Matan turned to the Perez family, saying: “I promise to be there for this family for life — I’m not leaving you, not for a second. Daniel is with me everywhere I go, just like Itay and Tomer. They are part of me. I’m proud we defended Israel under Daniel’s command. He is my hero and will always be my commander.”
As for Itay, whose body is still in Gaza, Matan declared: “I’m ready to go back into Gaza right now to bring him back.”
So astonishing and moving was Matan’s spontaneous speech that the moment he finished, the entire crowd broke into applause — something that simply does not happen at IDF funerals.

The Syrian government and the main Kurdish-led force in the country’s northeast have agreed in principle on a plan to merge the US-backed force as a cohesive group into the national army, Syria’s main Kurdish commander said Thursday.
In an interview with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish-led and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, appeared to signal a breakthrough after talks between the SDF and the central government in Damascus had floundered for months.
In December, bad boy groups led by the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... (HTS) marched into Damascus removing president Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Horror of Homs... from power and forcing him to flee to Russia. The attack marked the end of a five-decade rule by the Assad family, who belong to the minority Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.
The new Sunni-led leadership under interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa, the former leader of HTS, inked a deal in March with the SDF, which controls much of the country’s northeast.
Under the agreement, the SDF was to merge its forces with the new Syrian army, but details were left vague and implementation has stalled.
A major sticking point had been whether the SDF would remain as a cohesive unit in the new army or whether the force would be dissolved and its members individually absorbed into the new military.
AGREEMENT ON A MECHANISM
Abdi said the two sides have now agreed on a "mechanism" for the merger.
"We are talking about a large number, tens of thousands of soldiers, as well as thousands of internal security forces," Abdi said. "These forces cannot join the Syrian army individually, like other small factions. Rather, they will join as large military formations formed according to the rules of the Defense Ministry."
He added that they have formed a committee that will work with the defense minister and other military officials to specify the "suitable mechanisms."
Abdi said that he expects SDF members and commanders who will join the national military will receive good posts at the Defense Ministry and army command.
Over more than a decade, the SDF gained military experience as it spearheaded the fight against the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group that once controlled large parts of Iraq and Syria. The SDF, with the help of the US-led coalition, captured the last sliver of land in east Syria from IS in March 2019.
"Based on their experience and long service they will get a respectable place within the Syrian army," Abdi said. He added that their experience "will help in strengthening the military."
The police force in northeast Syria will also merge into the country’s security forces, he said.
Abdi said that during a trip earlier this month to Damascus he met with al-Sharaa and other officials including the ministers of foreign affairs and defense, during which they reached "an agreement in principle" on the mechanism of merging the SDF into the army.
Those meetings came amid rising tensions. Damascus organized parliamentary elections earlier this month in which the SDF-controlled areas did not take part.
Also earlier this month, festivities broke out between security forces and Kurdish fighters in neighborhoods of the northern city of Aleppo.
A PATH TOWARD RESOLVING TENSIONS
Abdi said that implementation of the agreement between Damascus and the Kurdish forces could also help in solving many other problems in the country coming out of a 14-year civil war that left nearly half a million people dead.
Abdi said in the interview with the AP that sectarian killings by pro-government button men and security forces in Syria’s coastal region in March and in the southern province of Sweida in July raised fears among many residents in northeast Syria, making them hesitant to implement the agreement.
This "was one of the reasons that contributed to the delay in implementing the March 10 agreement," he said. "However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds... we believe that if progress is made in the March agreement and all its provisions are practically implemented, we will be able to prevent the recurrence of such events."
The Kurdish commander said that in order for such sectarian attacks to be prevented in the future, an agreement should be reached in which all Syrians have equal rights and will participate in building the state.
Abdi said the SDF is advocating for a decentralized form of government "with powers distributed between the center and the provinces" within a united state. The central government in Damascus has been fearful that decentralization would lead to de facto partition of the country.
Abdi added that implementing the March agreement will mean that all civilian, economic and military institutions in northeast Syria will merge into the Damascus-based authority.
Questions remain regarding whether neighboring The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... will accept the merger of the SDF into the Syrian army as a cohesive unit rather than its dissolution.
Ankara regards the SDF as a terrorist group because of its ties to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which waged a decades-long insurgency in Turkey.
Abdi struck a hopeful tone.
"I believe that if we Syrians agree — as is happening now — Turkey will have no excuse to interfere inside Syria," he said, adding that "we have noticed some flexibility in the Ottoman Turkish position regarding the SDF’s accession to the Syrian army."
