[NYP] Australia’s most decorated soldier, charged with war crimes related to Afghanistan deployments more than a decade ago, on Sunday publicly denied the allegations against him and said he was proud of his service.
Ben Roberts-Smith, 47, freed this week on bail, is charged with five counts of war crimes over the alleged murder of five unarmed Afghan civilians between 2009 and 2012.
Each charge carries a maximum jail term of life.
The former Special Air Service (SAS) corporal has consistently denied the accusations of wrongdoing, many first reported by Nine Entertainment newspapers in a series of articles starting in 2018.
Speaking to the media on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Roberts-Smith said he always acted within the rules of engagement in Afghanistan.
"I categorically deny all of these allegations, and while I would have preferred these charges not be brought, I will be taking this opportunity to finally clear my name," he said. "I’m proud of my service in Afghanistan."
After more than a week in custody, Roberts-Smith was granted bail after a judge said his matter would likely take years to get to court.

Good question, TW. I am not informed as to their motives, * but their actions speak for themselves. The case against Roberts Smith was built around the testimony of some Afghanis in the local area who were paid and coached by Channel 9 operatives. The likelihood that they were Taliban , whose comrades BRS and his unit were engaging, is obvious, though never raised at trial or by the media.
The trial was a 3 way zoom call- court and accused in Australia, witnesses speaking Pushtu presumably, in Afghanistan (with Nine in the room?) and an interpreter- in Canada!
* Aside from the fact that this is a big, lucrative, ongoing story, into which Nine has inserted itself ab initio. Which it has a long history of doing. It is Australias largest media company, and politically invulnerable.
I hope this helps- I have not paid much attention to public affairs in my benighted nation for a long time, it’s just not bearable, but this case has been particularly egregious.
Ben Roberts- Smith received a Victoria Cross, by the way, which is the highest award for bravery in the British-Australian military system. To the Australian left( his real enemy here) this makes his scalp a great prize.

The interviews are expected to include former intelligence officials involved in drafting the 2017 assessment and are aimed at examining how the Trump-Russia inquiry began.
The investigation, which is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami, has been underway for months.

DiGenova, who will oversee the probe from the Southern District of Florida, is joining the team just days after Maria Medetis Long was removed from the case, CBS News previously reported. He will serve as counselor to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the official added.
Joe DiGenova and his wife, Victoria Toensing, worked on Trump’s 2020 election cases.
The couple represented Ukrainian businessman Dmitri Firtash, who was accused by the DOJ of bribery and racketeering. Giuliani, DiGenova, and Toensing also reportedly worked on gathering evidence of Joe and Hunter Biden’s corrupt dealings with Ukraine. Oh goody, the plot thickens. Joe Digenova appears to be a good selection.

[FoxNews] Rep. Nancy Mace is calling for a reckoning in the halls of Congress after the resignation of Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell. She accused the political establishment of shielding predators to protect their own power and introduced a resolution to stop it.
Mace joined "Saturday in America" to discuss the resolution she put forward for the House Ethics Committee to release its records on sexual harassment by lawmakers.
"I think there should be an avalanche of resignations," Mace said. "I want every single predator that’s in Congress now to be forced to resign. I don’t care how long it takes. If we can do it fast, let’s do it now, regardless of party."
