Biden's DOJ recommends no jail time for abortion activist who vandalized church, assaulted worker
[NYPOST] President Biden’s Justice Department is recommending no jail time for an child sacrifice abortion screeching muppet who scrawled "F—k Catholics" on a church’s walls, assaulted a church employee and defaced several religious statues in reaction to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade last summer, according to a report.

The Justice Department put forward a plea agreement, reviewed by Fox News Digital, that calls for three years’ probation and no jail time for Maeve Nota, who was arrested June 28, 2022, for vandalizing the St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue, Washington.

Nota, a transgender
...mutton, dressed up as pork...
man, was charged with a hate crime and assault for vandalizing the church, and tossing rocks at and spray-painting an employee of the church, according to the Bellevue Reporter.

Nota smashed two of the church’s glass doors, defaced religious statues and painted "women haters," "kid groomers," "we hate gay people," "rot in hell," and "F—k Catholics" on the church’s walls, the newspaper reported, citing charging documents.

"The graffiti painted on church walls and artifacts was anti-Catholic," the Bellevue Police Department said at the time on Twitter. "[A] hate crime includes acts that ’Defaces religious real property with words, symbols, or items that are derogatory to persons of the faith associated with the property.’"

Some contrasted the Biden Justice Department’s plea deal in Nota’s case with its response to pro-life screeching muppet Mark Houck, who was arrested in September 2022 after being indicted on federal charges that he intimidated people at a Planned Parenthood

Arrest made in San Francisco murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee
[NYPOST] A fellow tech worker was arrested Thursday in the slaying of Cash App founder Bob Lee on the streets of the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
, according to local reports.

The dad of two, 43, was stabbed just after 2:30 a.m. April 4 in the ritzy neighborhood of Rincon Hill and Lee allegedly knew his killer, Mission Local reported.

Nima Momeni, 38, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of murder Thursday morning, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Momeni, boss of a company called Expand IT, is said to have been driving through the city with Lee when they had some kind of confrontation, which resulted in the tech mogul exiting the vehicle.

Their altercation continued and Lee was fatally stabbed by Momeni on a quiet street, according to the Mission Local, citing police sources.

The knife used was also reportedly recovered from the scene, which was close to the hotel where Lee was staying.

The motive for the apparent murder is unknown, the San Francisco police said they will release further information later on Thursday.

Tragic security video — which has not been publicly released — shows the dying entrepreneur walking up to a car with its hazards flashing and lifting his shirt to the driver to show he was severely injured.

The car drove off without helping and Lee collapsed to the ground in the footage, according to various local outlets who had viewed the video.

Top Bud Light execs were blindsided by Dylan Mulvaney ad campaign: report

[NYPOST] Bud Light’s controversial marketing deal with transgender
...mutton, dressed up as pork...
social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney has ignited speculation that top executives at corporate parent Anheuser-Busch may have been blindsided by the tie-up when it was revealed.
Is she gone yet?
"No one at a senior level was aware this was happening," an unnamed source told the Daily Wire, a conservative-leaning news site.
"Yeah. Really. We had no idea! Honest!"
Marketing executives at Bud’s parent, Anheuser-Busch InBev, have allegedly "paused" additional campaigns so they can implement a more "robust" vetting process for future projects, according to the report.
"Yeah. Somebody oughta look at that stuff before it hits the street..."
The accuracy of the report — which comes despite the fact that Bud Light has publicly stood behind its partnership with Mulvaney — couldn’t immediately be confirmed.
She's not gone yet.
The Post has sought comment from Anheuser-Busch.
It'll be awhile.
"Some low-level marketing staffer who helps manage the hundreds of influencer engagements they do must have thought it was no big deal," according to an unnamed source cited by the Daily Wire.
Yeah. We saw the vid. Wharton School and all that. Pure genius.
"Obviously it was, and it’s a shame because they have a well-earned reputation for just being America’s beer — not a political company."
And now they're the Massachusetts Air National Guard of beers.
The source reportedly added: "It was a mistake."
No! Reeeeeeeally?
The Daily Wire also cited a tweet from conservative influencer Rogan O’Handley, who claimed to have spoken to sources who said that C-suite executives inside the company were "angered" over the marketing deal with Mulvaney.
"Oh! I'm just so angry! Get me my pills, Ethel!"
Alissa Heinerscheid, the vice president of marketing, told the "Make Yourself at Home" podcast last week that she wanted to transform Bud Light’s brand.
And she did. Formerly beer, now dirt.
"I’m a businesswoman, I had a really clear job to do when I took over Bud Dirt Light, and it was ’This brand is in decline, it’s been in a decline for a really long time, and if we do not attract young drinkers to come and drink this brand, there will be no future for Bud Light,’" Heinerscheid said.
Worked like a charm, dinnit?
She also condemned the company’s previous branding, saying: "We had this hangover, I mean Bud Light had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humor, and it was really important that we had another approach."
"So we committed beer seppuku."

Country singers Zach Bryan, Sheryl Crow clap back in Bud Light's Dylan Mulvaney controversy
[NYPOST] Two of country music’s biggest stars ratcheted up the brew-haha over Bud Light’s controversial ad campaign featuring transgender
...mutton, dressed up as pork...
social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Grammy-nominated crooner Zach Bryan hit out at comments that are "insulting" to transgender people after Travis Tritt announced he was boycotting the Anheuser-Busch product to protest the Mulvaney-Bud Light partnership.

"I mean no disrespect towards anyone specifically, I don’t even mind @travistritt," Bryan tweeted on Saturday.

"I just think insulting transgender people is completely wrong because we live in a country where we can all just be who we want to be It’s a great day to be alive I thought."

Sheryl Crow, the singer-songwriter, responded to Bryan with a "Thank you" and a heart emoji.

In another tweet, Bryan revealed that he has "family transitioning" and that he has "blood to defend here."

Bryan, whose hits include "Heading South," also responded to backlash he received from some who said they were no longer his fans due to his comments.

Tritt had tweeted last week: "I will be deleting all Anheuser-Busch products from my tour hospitality rider. I know many other artists who are doing the same."

"Other artists who are deleting Anheuser-Busch products from their hospitality rider might not say so in public for fear of being ridiculed and cancelled. I have no such fear," he added in a second tweet.

Tritt then indirectly referenced the fact that Anheuser-Busch is a subsidiary of Belgian multinational beverage giant AB InBev.

"In full disclosure, I was on a tour sponsored by Budweiser in the 90’s," Tritt tweeted.

"That was when Anheuser-Busch was American owned. A great American company that later sold out to the Europeans and became unrecognizable to the American consumer. Such a shame."

Texas man who spit at police sees 'life of crime' crumble, slapped with 70 years in prison to 'send a message'
[FoxNews] Lubbock, Texas prosecutor reportedly told jury to 'send a message' when determining length of sentence.

A Texas man convicted of spitting at Lubbock police officers back in May 2022 was sentenced to 70 years in prison on Wednesday, according to reports

KLBK-TV in Lubbock, Texas, reported that police arrested 36-year-old Larry Pearson in May 2022 for domestic violence.

Prosecuting attorney Jessica Gorman told the station Pearson was arrested after the victim flagged down a Lubbock Police Department officer.

Pearson’s charges were based on allegations that he hit a woman multiple times in the face and left here with visible injuries.

After Pearson was arrested and placed in a patrol vehicle, the station reported, he got angry because the victim was not arrested, then began kicking the door of the cruiser.

When the officers opened the door and told Pearson to stop, he spat at them and continued to do so after he arrived at the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Pearson was ultimately found guilty by a jury of two counts of harassment of a public servant.

Gorman, who did not immediately respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital regarding the sentencing, asked the jury to "send a message" to Pearson and society when considering a number to attach to the sentence.

The prosecutor said the minimum Pearson would face was 25 years in prison because he had been convicted previously of aggravated robbery and family violence.

Pearson’s attorney, Jim Shaw, told jurors the sentencing was for a "simple misdemeanor" that had gotten out of control.

As it turned out, the jury slapped Pearson with a 70-year sentence.

Gorman told KLBK-TV that a 70-year sentence would not be handed down to someone for something like this if they have never been in trouble with the law before.

"If you’re going to live the life of crime, you’re going to do that among other criminals," she told the court, according to the CBS affiliate.

Britain
Royal family has 'no interest' in talking to Prince Harry at Charles' coronation
[PAGESIX] Prince Harry
had better be prepared to have lots of innocuous chats about the weather when he attends his father’s coronation next month.

The royal family has "no interest" in talking to Harry "beyond the most basic of greetings," sources told the Daily Mail Thursday, adding that the Duke of Sussex’s cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, with whom he has remained friendly, may be the only "exception."

Buckingham Palace announced Wednesday after weeks of rabid speculation — and what the Mail described as "transatlantic ping-pong" — that Harry will travel home to London to show face at King Charles III’s crowning ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
his wife, Princess Meghan Markle
...unlikable American former starlet married to the formerly likable Prince Harry. Chock full of lefty political opinions, Markle's most important characteristic is that she is Black, even though she doesn't look it. Her mother, y'see, is half black and her father is white, which would make her a quarter Black. Her half brother described her (to her husband, before their marriage) as a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage. Once married, she was too good for the Royals and she and Harry decamped to Beverly Hills, kind of like the Clampetts did, thus making a joke of Harry and the royal family heritage...

Iraq
Iraq launches tree planting initiative to fight desertification and climate change
[Shafaq News] In recent years, climate change has led to huge environmental, social, and economic issues in Iraq.
Uh huh. The climate dunnit, of course.
The country has been battling with extreme flooding, droughts, and dust storms that damaged infrastructure and forced thousands of people to flee. While countless solutions have been explored, a brand-new, tree planting initiative has attracted media attention as both the government and local communities join forces to deliver a new mitigation strategy to save the country and its resources. The plan involves planting five million palms and trees.

15% of Iraq’s total surface area is currently categorised as being in a state of desertification. The country is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change because of its extensive oil reserves — with the fifth largest reserve in the world at over 140 billion barrels’ supply.
I’m missing the connection between cause and effect here. Do you understand it, dear Reader?
Iraq’s fragile social contract under an oil-led growth model has reportedly been a source of economic volatility and, according to the new World Bank Group’s Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR), the country faces the challenge of moving away from total oil dependence towards a more sustainable future. Without the capacity to achieve sustainable development, leaders will have to come up with costly, extensive projects.

For decades,
...centuries, millennia even...
Iraq has suffered from summer heatwaves, frequent droughts, and desertification triggered by intense dust storms — the duration and intensity of which are increasing due to global warming and increased vulnerability due to arid conditions almost all year round.

According to government figures, more than seven million citizens have been affected by climate change, with extreme weather events and natural disasters displacing hundreds of thousands of people who rely on agriculture and hunting for a living.

Climate change has also impacted the physical environment in Iraq, as declining surface water reserves, recurring drought and increasing water salinity continue to contribute to large-scale desertification.

Projections of water availability in Iraq are highly uncertain under different climate change scenarios, which has huge implications for both human health and the natural environment.

Iraq is dominated by two famous rivers: the Tigris and the Euphrates, flowing southeast from the highlands in the north of the country to the Persian Gulf. Climate change threatens the future of these two major rivers, which supply much of Iraq with life-sustaining water supplies.
Damming the waters by the countries upstream of Iraq has something to do with it, too...
According to the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
, Iraq is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate shocks both in financial and physical terms. Not only have the environmental impacts of global warming had huge implications for the country’s natural resources; last year, dust storms swept across Baghdad — the country’s capital, forcing schools and airports to close. In addition to affecting the local economy, the dust triggered huge public health concerns as locals were instructed to stay indoors and medicine for those with respiratory problems to be kept handy.

Trees help combat desertification, reduce soil erosion, and increase water availability, which is especially important in countries facing frequent droughts and water scarcity like Iraq.
All true, for those trees that survive being planted.
Tree planting is a great way to address desertification because trees play a critical role in preventing soil erosion and improving soil fertility. Desertification occurs when soil becomes degraded and unable to support plant life due to factors such as overgrazing, deforestation, and climate change.

Additionally, trees can help mitigate the impacts of climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Trees are intended to help cool cities and provide a windbreak during dust storms.

In March 2023, the country launched a national campaign to plant five million trees across the country. The initiative, supported by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, aims at addressing the various environmental and socio-economic issues generated by climate change as well as creating green jobs and providing training and education to local communities on sustainable agricultural practices.

The project has also attracted endorsement from several national and international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The campaign involves a wide range of activities, such as planting seedlings, creating nurseries, and providing training and education to local communities. The initiative also focuses on creating green jobs and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

The campaign is being carried out in several Iraqi provinces, including Baghdad, Basra, and Diyala. The planting of trees will be done by local farmers and citizens, with the support of technical experts and resources provided by the government and partner organizations.

Afforestation efforts have been implemented in other countries in the past. An example is the Great Green Wall of China project, which aimed to address aeolian desertification (caused by wind erosion), water and soil loss (caused by water erosion), and salinisation (caused by poor water management).

By the time the project is due to be completed in 2050, approximately 88 million acres of forests will have been planted
...and somewhere between ten and fifty percent of the trees will have survived the planting. How many survive being cut down for firewood is another question altogether...
— and right now, the project is running ahead of schedule. Africa also has its Great Green Wall initiative, a project funded by the EU, the World Bank, and the United Nations. The plan is to plant a broad continuous band of trees covering 8,000 kilometres of land across the entire width of the Continent, from Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
in West Africa to the Eastern Republic of Djibouti.

Although this initiative has attracted widespread media attention throughout the country and support from international organizations, the road ahead is long and there will be many setbacks.

Depending on the climate change scenario, temperatures in Iraq are likely to rise by up to 4.8C by 2080 compared to pre-industrial levels. Therefore, the trees selected to be planted would need to have the capability to survive through this level of heat, while also generating the benefits to soil quality to tackle erosion.

#2  The closest I've ever come to Iraq was working in Riyadh in the mid-90s. But flying over the area, it is a desert. Period. Sand, sand, and more sand. I'm surprised the level of "desertification" is as low as 15%. But I do wonder what sort of trees, aside from date palms, might grow there.

#4  If they plant the trees somebody will cut them down for firewood. Sad, but true

#5  The trees don't have to live for Iraq to be eligible for Biden's 'green' funds.
