The Pakistan Minister of Foreign Affairs issued a statement that the issue had been resolved with Taliban officials but gave few details on what agreement had been released. Recently arrived reinforcements continue to be stationed on both sides of the border and the Pakistani air force continues to conduct flights along its side of the border. There are rumors the Commander of Taliban forces at the crossing has been recalled to Kabul for an inquiry but this information has not been substantiated. The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement claiming the Taliban had apologized for the incident.

A source with the Resistance said the seizure was a farce and the weapons put on display by the Police were Taliban weapons used to ‘put on a show’ for the local populace and to show Kabul they were doing their jobs. There have been rumors circulating all year that these public displays are nothing more than theater and some in the Ministry of Defense have taken to calling the ruse “The Antique Road Show” after a popular BBC program. They say the weapons are transported around the country and placed on tables to generate positive press.

  • JOMHOR NEWS AGENCY CLOSED – After thirteen years of reporting, the media outlet, based in Kabul, announced it was closing operations in Afghanistan. Representatives of the outlet claimed numerous threats had been received by phone and text that put their employees at risk. Kabul Hotel Attack; Officials Say 3 Assailants Killed
[KhaamaPress] Three assailants were killed in the hotel attack in the Shahr-e-Naw neighborhood of Kabul, the Afghan capital, according to Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Afghan government.

Several explosions and gunshot bursts were heard by sources as the unidentified button men attacked the multi-story Kabul Longan Hotel on Monday, December 12.

According to Mujahid, all guests have been moved and no foreigners were killed in the attack. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
two foreign residents who jumped out the window to escape the attack are injured.

Security personnel rushed to the spot and blocked off the neighborhood as smoke appeared to be spewing out from the hotel structure.

The hotel where "common people were staying" was the target of the attack at 2:30 pm local time, according to Kabul police spokesperson Khalid Zadran, who added that security measures were being taken.

The attack occurred close to a Chinese guesthouse, according to the official Xinhua news agency of China, which also said that its embassy in Kabul was closely observing the situation.

The attack happened the day after the Chinese ambassador, Wang Yu, met with the deputy foreign minister of Afghanistan, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, to address security-related issues and to request more attention for the protection of its embassy.

in Khorasan Province (ISKP), has escalated its activities in Afghanistan since the political upheaval, although no group or organization immediately claimed credit for the attack on Monday.Kabul Security Department’s Spokesman Khalid Zadran said a compound called "Kabul Hotel," in which ordinary people are living, came under attack by "devil" elements.

The source said that the three other attackers were rubbed out by the Islamic Emirate forces.

According to the source, one member of Islamic Emirate forces was killed and three others were maimed.

No one has yet grabbed credit for the attack.

A resident told TOLOnews that two big blasts were heard followed by several small blasts. He said the building belongs to Chinese nationals.

Video released on social media, shows part of the compound on fire.
More from Dawn:

China, which shares a rugged 76-kilometre (47-mile) border with Afghanistan, has not officially recognised the Taliban government but is one of the few countries to maintain a full diplomatic presence there.

SENSITIVE BORDER
Beijing has long feared Afghanistan could become a staging point for minority Uyghur separatists in China’s sensitive border region of Xinjiang.

The Taliban have promised that Afghanistan would not be used as a base for holy warriors and, in exchange, China has offered economic support and investment for Afghanistan’s reconstruction.

Maintaining stability after decades of war in Afghanistan is Beijing’s main consideration as it seeks to secure its borders and strategic infrastructure investments in neighbouring Pakistain, home to the China-Pakistain Economic Corridor.

Despite owning the rights to major projects in Afghanistan, notably the Mes Aynak copper mine, China has not pushed any of these projects forward.

The Taliban are reliant on China to turn one of the world’s largest copper deposits into a working mine that would help the cash-strapped and sanctions-hit nation recover.

Two killed in Al-Shabaab attack in Kenya amid anti-militant push in Somalia
[Garowe] The al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
Lions of Islam killed two people in Kenya in the latest attack which targeted the Northern Frontier District [NDF] of Mandera, a few months after the Lions of Islam kidnapped four people and drove them to Somalia, just across the border.

According to authorities in Kenya, the Lions of Islam attacked a vehicle between Jabibar and Bamboo in Mandera North. They were driving in a Land cruiser along the dangerous Rhamu-Elwak road which connects to Wajir and Garissa in northeastern Kenya.

Onesmus Kyatha, the Mandera County Commissioner, confirmed the incident and said a reinforcement had been sent to the area to pursue the attackers. Three other passengers were on board when the incident happened, and the victims were a father and his son.

Locals said the gang was after the vehicle for use in Somalia where they are facing pressure from the local administration. The Lions of Islam are facing hard times in Somalia where the government has launched a full-blown war against them.

The NPR officers who were heading to Gari village are nursing injuries at Rhamu Sub-county Hospital, police said. Witnesses said the gang opened fire on the speeding car after the driver refused to stop, leading to a confrontation that lasted for some minutes.

According to The Star, this comes days after the bandidos bully boyz stole a four-wheel drive car belonging to a Mandera resident.

The vehicle was rented by a local agency -Action Against Hunger- operating in Takaba for a medical campaign and was attacked between Elram and Falama areas south of Mandera when it was robbed on December 8, 2022.

Al-Shabaab Lions of Islam are running away from Somalia following the ongoing crackdown, and Kenyan authorities have already arrested seven of them who are said to have tried to cross over the border. The Lions of Islam are said to be of Tanzanian and Æthiopian origin.

Al-Shabaab fighters intercepted in Kenya while crossing over from Somalia
[Garowe] Authorities in Kenya have arrested seven al-Shabaab

forces of Evil who were trying to flee from Somalia following a sustained offensive against the group in an operation spearheaded by the Somali National Army [SNA], local militia, and foreign partners.

Reports in Kenya indicate the forces of Evil who were seized in Wajir and Garissa counties are of Tanzanian and Æthiopian origin, an affirmation that the group relies on imported muscle to expand their scope across East Africa and other parts of the world.

For the last four months, Somalia has been pursuing al-Shabaab forces of Evil in central and southern parts of the country, making significant gains in the process. Last week, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced capturing of the crucial Adan Yabal district in Somalia.

This, security agencies believe, has forced al-Shabaab forces of Evil from Tanzania, Kenya, and Æthiopia to flee from Somalia. This is the first time Somalia security forces are launching a sustained operation against the krazed killers, who are fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia.

Last month, the National Police Service arrested Baraka Yusuf, a 38-year-old Tanzanian at Liboi, in Garissa county, while running away from Somalia. He crossed into the country together with three other Kenyan al-Shabaab fighters who managed to escape the police dragnet.

The police are pursuing the three and are appealing to the public to volunteer any information that could lead to their arrest even as they increase surveillance along the Kenya-Somalia border to monitor any movements of those who might infiltrate the country, the Star reports.

Also arrested were five Æthiopian who were fleeing from the Horn of Africa nation. They include Nur Osman Chawo, Suleiman Kadu Shale, Mohammed Abdulkadir Jibich, Ridwan Haji Abdulbasir, and Anwar Jamal Hajiwadow who conceded being al-Shabaab trainees who have been fighting across Somalia.

Investigations done by Kenyan authorities show that the fighters were promised monetary gains to the tune of $200 for them to join al-Shabaab but that did not materialize. They said upon reaching Somalia, they were threatened and forced to remain with the terror group.

North Eastern regional commissioner James Kianda also confirmed that the government was closely monitoring the ongoing situation in Somalia and more security personnel drawn from different formations have been deployed to police the border.

Kenya is now alert along the borders due to the projected mass exit of al-Shabaab imported muscle who fear being killed after the Somali National Army gained momentum in the fight against al-Shabaab. The country has hailed clan mobilization against the forces of Evil who control sections of central and southern Somalia.

Europe
Ships with 500 migrants allowed to dock in Italy
[Dawn] Italia, which has vowed a tough line on immigration, took in more than 500 migrants colonists on Sunday as two charity rescue ships were allowed to dock at ports in the south of the country after several days at sea in bad weather.

The Geo Barents ship, operated by the Doctors without Borders (MSF) charity and which had 248 migrants colonists aboard, arrived in Salerno in the southwestern region of Campania, MSF said.

On the other side of the country, the Humanity 1, another rescue vessel run by the charity SOS Humanity, docked in the port city of Bari after the Italian authorities agreed to grant it permission.

The journey had been very tough and the ship had faced three-metre high waves and strong winds, SOS Humanity said in a tweet, confirming its arrival with 261 migrants colonists on board.

How to respond to requests for help from the charity boats that pick up migrants colonists in the Mediterranean is a challenge for Italia’s new right-wing government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Tensions flared with neighbour La Belle France last month after the French took in a boat that had been turned away by Italia.

Italian interior ministry sources said the decision to allow the two ships to dock was based on the poor weather conditions and the risks faced by those on board, rather than representing a change of policy.

It accuses the charity ships of making it easier for economic migrants colonists to reach Italia and playing into the hands of people traffickers.

The ministry was working on new regulations to protect Italia’s borders and halt the people smugglers, the sources said.

A 14-year-old boy, who was travelling alone, had been airlifted from the Geo Barents to Sicily after suffering acute abdominal pain, MSF said on Friday.

On Wednesday, a baby was born on the same vessel and later flown with his mother and three siblings to Italia.

Zambian police on Sunday found the bodies of 27 men, believed to be migrants colonists from Æthiopia, dumped in a farming area on the outskirts of the capital after they died from suspected hunger and exhaustion, authorities said.

27 Æthiopian migrants colonists found dead
A sole survivor was found alive in the early hours of Sunday morning and rushed to a Lusaka hospital for treatment, while the dead were transported to the mortuary for identification and post mortems to determine the exact cause of death, police said.

Preliminary police investigations showed the victims were all males aged between 20 and 38 and had been dumped along a road by unknown people.

"Police and other security wings have since instituted investigations into the matter," Danny Mwale, police front man, said in a statement after police were alerted to the gruesome scene by members of the public.

Æthiopian migrants colonists often use Zambia when travelling to countries such as South Africa, though reports of deaths in transit there are rare.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
IDF says sniper likely mistakenly killed Palestinian girl during Jenin raid, US State Dept fusses
[IsraelTimes] Citing initial investigation, military says Jana Zakarna, 16, apparently was near button men who were shooting at troops from rooftops

The Israel Defense Forces said it believed with "high probability" that a soldier accidentally shot and killed a teenage Paleostinian girl during a battle with Paleostinian button men in the northern West Bank city of Jenin late Sunday.

The girl, Jana Majdi Assam Zakarna, 16, was found dead on the roof of her home with a gunshot wound to the head after the Israeli troops withdrew from Jenin, according to the official Paleostinian news agency WAFA.

The IDF, citing an initial probe of the shooting, said a Border Police sniper fired at Paleostinian button men who were shooting at soldiers from rooftops during the raid.

"Following a preliminary investigation, it was found that there is indeed a high probability that the girl who was killed was hit by an accidental shot fired at gunnies on a roof in the area, from which shots were fired at the forces," the IDF said in a statement Monday afternoon.

"It appears the girl who was killed had been on the roof of one of the houses near the button men," the military said.

The IDF dismissed claims that the teen was shot on purpose as "unfounded and baseless."

The military was also probing if Zakarna had possibly aided the button men by observing or filming the Israeli forces during the raid.

Earlier Monday, outgoing Defense Minister Benny Gantz expressed sorrow over the death of Zakarna. He said the raid was aimed at arresting Paleostinians suspected of recent shooting attacks and those involved in terror organizations.

"The matter is under investigation and I can assure you of one thing, unlike those who stand by the roads with weapons, stones, and Molotov cocktails, waiting for an opportunity to murder Israeli girls and boys, women, elderly and children, IDF soldiers do not shoot deliberately at uninvolved people," Gantz said.

"The IDF will continue to act to thwart terrorism, anywhere and at any time, while adhering to the open-fire rules," he said. "The commanders and soldiers have full support to continue to fulfill their mission with professionalism and determination."

Three other Paleostinians were reported maimed in the festivities, which included live fire and explosives, as Israeli troops and Border Police officers, some of them undercover, raided a Jenin business late Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Border Police confirmed that troops opened fire and said three terror suspects were arrested during the late-night operation.

"Following the arrests, violent mostly peaceful riots broke out, including live fire and explosives from various ranges directed at [Israeli] forces," a Border Police front man said said in a statement. "The undercover officers, Border Police troops and Israel Defense Forces soldiers returned fire toward the terrorists."

No Israeli troops were maimed, police said.

A local wing of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group confirmed opening fire and hurling explosives at Israeli troops.

The three arrested suspects were handed over to the Shin Bet security service, and an M16 rifle used by the Paleostinians was seized, Israel said.

Tensions have been high in the West Bank over the past year, with the IDF conducting an ongoing major anti-terror offensive mostly focused on the northern West Bank to deal with a series of Paleostinian attacks.

The operation has netted more than 2,500 arrests in near-nightly raids, but has also left more than 165 Paleostinians dead, many of them — but not all — while carrying out attacks or during festivities with security forces.

In overnight arrest raids, troops arrested 18 wanted Paleostinians, including the three in Jenin, the IDF said Monday morning.

Many deadly festivities have occurred in the Jenin and Nablus area, where Israel’s forces have concentrated most arrest operations.

The IDF has recorded around 300 shooting attacks and attempts against Israeli civilians and soldiers in the West Bank this year, compared to 91 last year.

US helicopter raid kills 2 Islamic State militants in Deir ez-Zor
More on this story from yesterday:
[AlAhram] American forces on Sunday killed two Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eaters in eastern Syria in a helicopter raid, US Central Command said in a statement.

U.S. Central Command did not specify the location of the overnight operation and claimed there were no civilian casualties in its initial assessments of the operation.

The statement described one of the two targeted IS leaders, Anas, as an ``ISIS Syria Province official'' involved in plotting attacks in eastern Syria.

``ISIS continues to represent a threat to the security and stability of the region,'' CENTCOM front man Joe Buccino said in the statement. ``The death of these ISIS officials will disrupt the terrorist organization's ability to further the plot and carry out destabilizing attacks in the Middle East.''

Kurdish forces also took part in the raid in the village of al-Zer in eastern Deir el-Zour, said the U.K.-based war monitor group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Death Eaters refused to turn themselves in before U.S. helicopters fired at the house they were in, it added.

There are some 900 U.S. forces in Syria supporting the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in the fight against IS. They have frequently targeted IS Death Eaters mostly in parts of northeastern Syria under Kurdish control.

On Nov. 30, IS announced that leader Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was killed in battle. The U.S. said al-Qurayshi was killed in an operation conducted by rebel forces in the southern city of Daraa.

U.S. troops and Kurdish fighters resumed joint patrols in northeastern Syria after a temporary halt following a series of Ottoman Turkish Arclight airstrike

Iran carries out second execution over protests: Judiciary
[Rudaw] Iran’s judiciary said on Monday that it carried out the second known execution linked to the nationwide protests amid warnings from rights groups warning that many more at risk of being handed the death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...

Majidreza Rahnavard, 23, was executed less than a month after he was detained for allegedly stabbing two members of the security forces in Mashhad. At least 488 protesters have been killed and over 18,200 arrested since the protests began almost three months ago, according to US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

Iran’s Mizan online, affiliated to the country’s judiciary, claimed Rahnavard had stabbed two members of the Basij, a paramilitary group linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC), to death on November 17 and injured four others. The news agency then stated that he was arrested upon attempting to flee the country.

Mizan added that Rahnavard had been convicted of "moharebeh" or "waging war against God" in Mashhad’s Revolutionary Court. Rights groups have slammed these tribunals for carrying out "sham trials" and issuing sentences without any credible evidence.

Iranian state television

broadcast footage showing a man stabbing other men then fleeing and alleged that was Rahnavard, News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.

carried out the first official protest-linked execution on Thursday. Mohsen Shekari, 23, was hanged after also being convicted of "moharabeh." He had been similarly accused of wounding a member of the Basij.

Eleven death sentences have been issued by an Iranian court over the protests, the majority being related to the targeting of Basij members. Rights groups monitoring the violent mostly peaceful crackdown in Iran warned that more protesters are at risk of execution.

In the wake of the news, Amnesia Amnesty International called on the international community to urge the Iranian regime to stop any plans of further executions and to "stop using the death penalty
as tool of political repression against protesters."

Protests spread throughout the country in the aftermath of the death of Zhina (Mahsa) Amini at the hands of the morality police on September 16, sparking a violent mostly peaceful crackdown by Iranian security forces, particularly the IRGC and the Basij.

The protests, which authorities describe as "riots", are on the biggest challenge the regime in Iran have confronted since it was established in 1979. Iran is one of the world’s top executioners and is using this method as an attempt to quell the protests.
The Times of Israel adds:
The Mizan report identified the dead as "student" Basij, paramilitary volunteers under Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. The Basij have deployed in major cities, attacking and detaining protesters, who in many cases have fought back.

Executions conducted in public with a crane have been rare in recent years, though Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
used the same manner of hanging to put down unrest following the disputed 2009 presidential election and the Green Movement protests that followed.

an economic crisis that has seen the national currency, the rial, drop to new lows against the US dollar.

Question now is:
Is the DC Swamp is watching and wondering how to implement similar punitive actions here?
