19-State Coalition Launching an Investigation into Six Major Banks Over Ties to UN Net-Zero Banking Alliance
Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that his office and 18 other attorneys general served six major American banks with civil investigative demands. These demands act as a subpoena and seek documents relating to the banks’ involvement with the United Nations Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), which is part of a trend toward environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing. Missouri, Arizona, Kentucky, and Texas are leading the investigation,

The banks served with demands include Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo. NZBA-member banks must set emissions reduction targets in their lending and investment portfolios to reach net zero by 2050. According to the NZBA’s governance document:

In addition to net-zero by 2050 commitments, banks must set targets for 2030 or sooner which are in line with a low/no overshoot scenario consistent with 1.5 degree warming to cover a significant majority of emissions including in at least one priority sector within 18 months of joining and set targets for all or a substantial majority of listed high emitting sectors within 36 months of signing and annually report on targets and progress.

Bank of America, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley are currently listed as members of the 12-member Steering Group for the NZBA. Another member of the Steering Group not included in the investigation is Amalgamated Bank. This financial institution is rooted in the U.S. labor movement with strong ties to the SEIU, the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Amalgamated calls itself "America’s socially responsible bank" and was instrumental in pushing Visa and Mastercard to add the transaction code for firearms and ammunition purchases.

"The Net-Zero Banking Alliance is a massive worldwide agreement by major banking institutions, overseen by the U.N., to starve companies engaged in fossil fuel-related activities of credit on national and international markets. Missouri farmers, oil leasing companies, and other businesses that are vital to Missouri’s and America’s economy will be unable to get a loan because of this alliance," said Attorney General Schmitt. "We are leading a coalition investigating banks for ceding authority to the U.N., which will only result in the killing of American companies that don’t subscribe to the woke, climate agenda. These banks are accountable to American laws — we don’t let international bodies set the standards for our businesses."

The interrogatories in the civil investigative demands are extensive and detailed. They seek to identify the specific commitments the banks made to Global Climate Initiatives, who decided to make them, and details of the staff’s participation in meetings related to the NZBA. Missouri, Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia have joined the investigation into the six banks. Five additional states can’t be named due to state laws or regulations regarding confidentiality.

"With today’s action led by Missouri Attorney General Schmitt, states are holding big banks accountable for obvious violations and for peddling highly questionable climate initiatives under the label of ESG — all part of a coordinated effort to handicap American energy at the expense of U.S. consumers," said Wil Hild, executive director of Consumers’ Research. "These banks cannot be allowed to continue to promote a progressive agenda that prioritizes political activism over delivering for their hardworking American customers. Consumers’ Research applauds these Attorneys General for taking action and making a real difference at a time when Americans need it most," he added.

This investigation is the latest in a series of actions aimed at ESG investing by attorneys general from across the country. Indiana AG Todd Rokita issued an official opinion in early September stating that Indiana may not base its pension investment strategies on ESG guidelines. In August, 19 states joined a letter, led by Arizona AG Mark Brnovich, calling out BlackRock for putting politics above investor returns. Missouri AG Eric Schmitt launched an investigation into Morningstar over ESG practices and anti-Israeli bias. Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron issued an opinion in May that ESG investing is inconsistent with Kentucky law.

The new investigation also follows actions by several state treasurers removing investment funds and banking transactions from companies engaged in ESG investing. Earlier this week, Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick announced that the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS) pulled $500 million in pension funds managed by BlackRock. Fitzpatrick cited his belief that BlackRock was ignoring its fiduciary responsibility in favor of forcing a political and social agenda through ESG investing. Missouri joined Utah, West Virginia, Arkansas, Louisiana, and South Carolina in withdrawing money from banks and investment firms focused on ESG.

San Francisco to spend $1.7 million on one public toilet
[RT] the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
’s local government expects to spend up to $1.7 million to build just one public toilet — hardly a drop in the bucket for a city that gets thousands of complaints annually of feces on its sidewalks — and the project will take an estimated three years to complete.

City leaders were scheduled to gather on Wednesday afternoon at Noe Valley Town Square to tout their success in obtaining state funding for the pricey toilet, according to a public notice for the event. The facility will reportedly be just 150 square feet in size and won’t be ready for use until 2025, if all goes according to plans.

As San Francisco Chronicle columnist Heather Knight explained, "Another public toilet in a city with very few of them is excellent. But the details of this particular flint? They’re mind-boggling, and sum up a lot of what’s wrong with our city government."

Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Assembly member Matt Haney, a Democrat from San Francisco, told Knight that he worked to obtain state funding after being told the estimated cost by the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks. "They told me $1.7 million, and I got $1.7 million. I had no choice in bringing home less bacon when it came to building a toilet."

The estimated cost is equivalent to nearly four times the median price tag of a US home, according to the latest government housing data. San Francisco city officials noted in a statement that the figure includes not just construction, but also designing the bathroom, seeking public input and obtaining local and state permits.

The Civil Design Review Committee of the local Arts Commission will conduct a "multi-stage review" to ensure that the plans are of the highest quality and are "context-appropriate." Knight added that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the city’s Recreation and Parks Committee, and state environmental regulators will also have to sign off on the toilet’s design. Union workers will build the facility. "While this is not the cheapest way to build, it reflects San Francisco values," the city’s statement said.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed last December declared a state of emergency in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood, just days after she announced a war on crime, drugs and public defecation. The city receives around 30,000 complaints annually of excrement in public places. A city program to provide portable public toilets in the most "impacted" neighborhoods was costing an estimated $28.50 per flush as of 2019, reflecting high maintenance and cleaning costs.

AOC busts a move after protesters crash town hall
Sometimes, you’ve just gotta dance.

Drumming protesters crashed another town hall event hosted by far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) Wednesday night, with the “Squad” member eventually bopping along to their rhythmic chants.
The loud jeering and chanting left Ocasio-Cortez with nothing better to do than show off her moves while she sat on the edge of a stage.

At one point, the lawmaker appeared to spot a sign in the crowd reading, “Wake up New York. Vote for Tina Forte. Fuck AOC.”

Britain
Truss Resigns as UK Prime Minister
[NewsMax] British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned Thursday — bowing to the inevitable after a tumultuous, short-lived term in which her policies triggered turmoil in financial markets and a rebellion in her party that obliterated her authority.

Making a hastily scheduled statement outside her 10 Downing Street office, Truss acknowledged that "I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party."

Hers is the third resignation by a Conservative prime minister in as many years and leaves a divided party seeking a leader who can unify its warring factions. Truss, who said she will remain in office for a few more days while that process unfolds, has been prime minister for just 45 days.

Just a day earlier she had vowed to stay in power, saying she was "a fighter and not a quitter." But Truss couldn't hold on any longer after a senior minister quit her government with a barrage of criticism and a vote in the House of Commons descended into chaos and acrimony just days after she was forced to abandon many of her economic policies.

A growing number of lawmakers had called for Truss to resign after weeks of turmoil sparked by her economic plan. When it was unveiled by the government last month, the plan triggered financial turmoil and a political crisis that has seen the replacement of Truss' Treasury chief, multiple policy U-turns and a breakdown of discipline in the governing Conservative Party.

Earlier, Conservative lawmaker Simon Hoare said the government was in disarray.

"Nobody has a route plan. It's all sort of hand-to-hand fighting on a day-to-day basis," he told the BBC on Thursday.

Truss quit after a meeting with Graham Brady, a senior Conservative lawmaker who oversees leadership challenges. Brady was tasked with assessing whether the prime minister still has the support of Tory members of Parliament — and it seemed she did not.

Lawmakers' anger grew after a Wednesday evening vote over fracking for shale gas — a practice that Truss wants to resume despite opposition from many Conservatives — produced chaotic scenes in Parliament.

With Conservatives holding a large parliamentary majority, an opposition call for a fracking ban was easily defeated. But there were displays of anger in the House of Commons, with party whips accused of using heavy-handed tactics to gain votes.

#8  The way Breitbart tells it, there was a big fight about immigration and Truss was on the wrong side.

PM Truss Had 90-Minute ‘Shouting Match’ with Ex-Home Secretary over Immigration Betrayal

Braverman, who along with Kemi Badenoch — now Trade Secretary — was seen as the “right-wing” candidate by grassroots conservatives during the race to replace Boris Johnson, as a Brexit supporter who put a focus on tackling illegal migration, reducing legal mass migration, and taking on social justice leftists in British institutions over the course of her leadership campaign.

I'm no expert on UK politics but it would seem to me they need another general election. Dunno if Bojo is the guy though. Wasn't he soft on immigration as well?

Bad Medicine: Doctor Granting Fetterman Clean Bill of Health Is a Campaign Donor
[WFB] Totally believe him. Pull the other one, it has bells, a hoodie, and a neck gnome on it.
John Fetterman’s campaign is citing a political donor’s note as proof that the Senate hopeful has a clean bill of health.

In a letter released by Fetterman’s team, Dr. Clifford Chen said Fetterman has "significantly improved" following his stroke and "can work full duty in public office." The campaign released the letter—which it called a "medical report"—following calls from media outlets for the Pennsylvania Democrat’s health records.

Chen’s political leanings could raise questions about his medical assessment of Fetterman, whose race against Republican Mehmet Oz could determine which party controls the Senate. According to campaign finance records, Chen has given tens of thousands of dollars over the years to Democratic candidates and party committees. He contributed $1,330 to Fetterman’s campaign, including a $500 donation in June 2021, before he became Fetterman’s doctor. Chen donated to other Senate candidates running in close races this cycle, including Rep. Val Demings (D., Fla.) and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D., Ga.).

"This isn’t about politics," Fetterman campaign spokesman Joe Calvello told the Washington Free Beacon. "It’s an independent, detailed medical report written by John’s primary care doctor based on his latest office visit from last week."

Fetterman initially downplayed the severity of his stroke and has struggled to speak clearly and process sound during campaign events and interviews. Fetterman’s stroke was caused by a heart condition he was diagnosed with in 2017 but failed to disclose until after his health scare.

Fetterman’s supporters have gone on the attack amid questions about his health. His wife Gisele Fetterman said there should be "consequences" for an NBC News reporter who grilled Fetterman last week about his recovery and his reliance on closed-captioning to conduct interviews. She also blasted the Washington Post editorial board last month over a piece asserting that Fetterman had "squandered credibility" by refusing to release his medical records. Gisele Fetterman said the reliably liberal newspaper published the story for "clicks."

Chen said in the letter he has been in routine contact with Fetterman’s neurologist and cardiologist about his recovery.

"Overall, Lt. Governor Fetterman is well and shows strong commitment to maintaining good fitness and health practices. He has no work restrictions and can work full duty in public office," Chen wrote.

Chen did not respond to a request for comment.

MTG's tribute to Confederate soldiers hilariously backfires
[Yahoo] Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene posted an image of herself intended to defend monuments to the Confederacy, but the lawmaker inadvertantly highlighted a monument paying tribute to the Union, The Daily Beastreported.

The Republican firebrand posted an image of herself at the the Wilder Monument in Chickamuaga, Georgia on Truth Social, former president Donald Trump’s media platform he created after Twitter banned him.

“Tonight, I stopped at the Wilder Monument in Chickamuaga, GA, which honors the soldiers of the Wilder Brigade,” she said. “I will always defend our nation’s history!”

But the Wilder Brigade fought for the Union. Colonel John T Wilder and led a brigade with wild horses from the Tennessee countryside and turned his brigade into an armed infantry with the seven-shot Spencer repeating rifle, according to Iron Brigadier.

On 18 September 1863, the brigade saved the Union Army when it helped stave off the Confederate army at Alexander’s Bridge, according to the Indiana government’s website. Two days later, the Lightning Brigade, as it was known, repelled the charges of the Confederate Army’s divison and counter-attacked the South.
There are a number of articles in this vein from various sources, mocking the honourable Congresswoman for her earnest ignorance. But one is reminded of a similar gotcha attempt when Sarah Palin was running as John McCain’s vice president, when it turned out she was actually correct, having a considerably deeper knowledge of Revolutionary history than her critics.

#1  Interesting. Are we to believe that Union commemorations will not be removed once Confederate one’s are finished. The goal is dissolution of American identity. Not venerate the North. The culture is being dissolved.

#2  Where is her statement she is honoring a monument to the Confederacy? Did the writer at Yahoo make that part up?

#3  #1 Old news - they started that last year with tearing down stautes of Lincoln... even the Founders were not safe. But yes, the dissolution of the culture is the goal - and they've very nearly succeeded. We have 2 years to reverse course.

#4  I think the writer just believed she was stupid and racist. There is nothing here to suggest she got the wrong statue and she should force them to make a correction.

#5  They have toppled statues of abolishonists.
They will topple any statue.

#6  #5 - they learned from the Taliban and ISIS how to erase history by destroying ancient relics

#7  "Erase Idolatry!"
Wait...wasn't somebody else already doing that?

#8  Ah, the Yahoo writer just assigning beliefs.

"Yahoo typer makes an internet search, discovers Union Forces spent time in the Confederate States, had mentionable moments."

#9  Box of doughnuts says the Yahoo Typer put down 7-shot rifle, and visioned seven barrels, thought "That would take a long time to reload!"
