-Lurid Crime Tales-
Florida authorities shut down a fentanyl trafficking ring, 64 people arrested
[JustTheNews] A multi-agency operation has crippled another fentanyl trafficking ring, this time in Lakeland, Florida. They seized enough fentanyl to kill 371,000 Floridians.

A multi-agency operation led by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd’s office has crippled another fentanyl trafficking ring, this time in Lakeland, Florida.

It comes on the heels of another successful drug bust Judd announced in April after investigators disrupted a Mexican drug trafficking organization operating in several states. Through that organization, they seized the largest amount of fentanyl in county history – enough to kill one-third of the state's population, The Center Square reported.

The latest operation, Operation Rooske, took three years, and culminated with the arrests of 64 people. The drug trafficking organization, investigators found, was being run out of two small businesses, a fish-and-bait shop and a motorcycle shop. The drugs were then sold and distributed in Polk and Osceola counties.

Operation Rooske began in January 2021 when detectives initially believed they were investigating a low-level street dealer. They soon realized the alleged drug dealers were “cranking out 500 to 1,000 bags” of 2/10 of a gram of fentanyl, Judd said at a news conference on Friday.

He held up a small dime-sized bag of flour to illustrate how much fentanyl was being sold. As a result of their investigation, they seized enough fentanyl to kill 371,000 Floridians.

“In essence, this fentanyl trafficking organization was the family business,” Judd said. “The motorcycle shop and the bait shop were corrupt businesses that were used as a means for money laundering. Their customers weren’t involved; they had no idea what was going on. In fact, the owners tried to project a wholesome facade while conducting their criminal enterprise behind the scenes until it all came crashing down on them, thanks to the fantastic work by our detectives.”

The sheriff’s office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Attorney General Ashley Moody’s Office of Statewide Prosecution were involved in the investigation.

Organized Crime Unit detectives from the PCSO and special agents from FDLE conducted multiple undercover purchases of fentanyl from the bait and tackle and motorcycle parts shops. They were able to build a case and eventually arrest who they characterized as the leader of the organization, a 43-year-old Lakeland resident whose key co-conspirators were his wife and daughter.

On June 20, six search warrants were served in Polk and Osceola counties resulting in investigators seizing more than 742 grams of fentanyl, more than 13 grams of methamphetamine, more than 228 grams of marijuana with a combined street value of more than $475,000. They also seized assets worth more than $600,000.

“While most of the arrests were buyers of illegal drugs from the Rooske organization, detectives used those arrests to lead back to and build a case against the organization,” the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators found that the group generally sold small quantities of drugs attempting to avoid being detected. They also used “countersurveillance techniques,” including having cameras outside of their residences and businesses, using multiple cellphones and changing the location of their drug deals, investigators found.

Moody’s office charged nine defendants with felony counts of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, conspiracy to commit RICO, and fentanyl trafficking among other charges.

“Florida leads the nation in fentanyl seizures, and this case is yet another example of how Sheriff Grady Judd and his deputies are leaders in helping us remove deadly drugs from our streets,” Moody said. “Working with Polk County deputies and FDLE, we were able to seize 742 grams of fentanyl in two counties. That is enough poison to kill 371,000 Floridians, and I have no doubt that this drug-interdiction operation saved lives.”

Her office is prosecuting nine cases, the remaining single-judicial circuit cases will be handled by the local state attorney, her office said.

Judd announced the results of their investigation one week after Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood announced the result of a major drug bust in Volusia and Putnam counties, The Center Square reported.

That was after another multi-agency effort busted a human trafficking ring tied to the border operating in Manatee and Hillsborough counties, The Center Square reported.

At least 18 killed in suspected suicide attacks in Nigeria
[BBC] At least 18 people have been killed and 30 injured in a series of deadly blasts in Nigeria thought to have been carried out by female suicide bombers.

One of the bombings is reported to have killed six people and injured others at a wedding ceremony on Saturday, in the northeastern Borno state.

The state's emergency management agency said the co-ordinated attacks targeted a wedding, the victims' subsequent funeral and a hospital in the town of Gwoza.

President Bola Tinubu condemned the attacks calling them "desperate acts of terror" in a statement shared by his media aide on Facebook. He vowed stern action against those responsible for the killings in the town of Gwoza and insisted that the incident had not undermined recent gains made against jihadists.

"The president declares that the purveyors of wanton violence shall have a certain encounter with justice, and that these cowardly attacks are only but an isolated episode as his government will not allow the nation to slither into an era of fear, tears, sorrow, and blood," it read.

No-one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the Nigeria-centred Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents have previously claimed deadly bombings in Borno.

In the last four months, attackers have twice targeted people through suicide and improvised explosive devices in Borno state.

Borno state has been at the centre of a 15-year insurgency by Boko Haram Islamist militants, which has displaced more than two million people and killed more than 40,000.

Boko Haram gained international notoriety in 2014 when it kidnapped more than 270 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok, also in Borno state.

Authorities said 18 deaths had been confirmed on Saturday, a toll that included children, adults and pregnant women.

Some local media have reported a much higher toll - Nigeria's Vanguard and This Day newspapers said at least 30 had been killed in the blasts.

A curfew has been imposed by the military.

Gwoza was seized by Boko Haram in 2014, and taken back by the Nigerian forces in 2015 - but the group has since continued to carry out attacks and kidnappings near the town.

Last November, 20 people were killed by Boko Haram insurgents while returning from a funeral service in neighbouring Yobe state.

The attack happened a day after militants killed 17 people in a raid on Gurokayeya village, after villagers refused to pay a so-called harvest tax, police said.

Elderly Couple Injured in Mexico When Cartel Drone Drops IED on Home
[Breitbart] An elderly couple sustained moderate injuries after a group of cartel gunmen dropped an IED on top of their home using a drone. The incident comes as cartels continue to operate with almost complete impunity in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, where various organizations are fighting a fierce turf war for control of drug production areas and trafficking routes.

The attack took place on Thursday night in the town of La Ruana, in the rural part of Michoacan, when a 72-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife were sleeping in their room, La Voz de Michoacan reported. During the night, a group of gunmen flew a drone over the town and dropped an explosive device that landed in the couple’s home.

The couple claimed to have heard a thud in their roof, followed shortly after by a loud blast. Emergency personnel arrived at the home and rushed the couple to a local hospital, where they are expected to recover.

The town of La Ruana is in a part of Michoacan that has a long history of cartel turf wars, as criminal organizations fight for control of drug production areas and trafficking routes into Mexico.

The drone attack comes at a time when drug cartels in Michoacan, such as Cartel Jalisco New Generations, La Familia Michoacan, Knights Templars, and others, have been innovating the use of IEDs in their turf wars.

Breitbart Texas was one of the first outlets to report on how these cartels had begun using commercial drones to drop IEDs on their enemies. The cartels are also manufacturing land mines and mortars.

Suspected accomplice in terrorist attack near Israeli embassy detained in Serbia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Law enforcement agencies have detained a suspected accomplice in the terrorist attack at the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, the country's Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced on June 29.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whose words are quoted on the website of his department, clarified that the detainee’s name is Igor Despotovic and he was born in Belgrade in 1999. According to Dacic, the alleged accomplice in the attack was previously brought to administrative responsibility.

The minister noted that the detainee contacted the terrorist every day, which is why security forces began to suspect his involvement in the attack.

As Regnum reported, on June 29 in Belgrade, a man with a crossbow in his hands shot at a gendarme who was guarding the Israeli embassy building. The law enforcement officer was wounded in the neck, but was able to neutralize the criminal using his service weapon. The attacker subsequently died. The injured gendarme was hospitalized for surgery to remove the arrow.

Later, Ivica Dacic said that the incident at the embassy in Belgrade was classified as a terrorist attack. He said that security measures had been tightened in the Serbian capital after the incident.

Turkey sets up checkpoints within Kurdistan Region, residents say
25-06-2024
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish armed forces have established checkpoints within the Kurdistan Region in areas of Duhok near the Ottoman Turkish border, creating obstacles for locals caught up in Ankara’s most recent military operation.

"When I was returning home, I was asked for my identification card at the checkpoint in Ottoman Turkish, but I did not understand," a resident of Kani Masi village, Amedi district, Duhok, told Rudaw on Monday on the condition of anonymity.

Residents are being asked to show identification, the source added.

"Later one of the soldiers asked me in Kurdish. I said I do not have it with me ... they said ’go, but bring your identification card with you next time’," he said.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
’s checkpoint is near the Balave and Belizani villages on the main road between the Bamarni and Kani Masi subdistricts about 57 kilometers northeast of Duhok city.

Rudaw has learned that the Ottoman Turkish army has begun operations near Kani Masi and Mount Metina in Duhok province. The soldiers patrol the area with heavy weapons and have created several similar checkpoints.

Turkey has yet to announce the operation, but it has recently increased its military incursions to curb stated threats from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) along its border with the Kurdistan Region.

The PKK is a pro-Kurdish group that has waged an armed insurgency against the Ottoman Turkish state for decades in the struggle for greater Kurdish rights and is designated a terrorist organization by Ankara.

The recent escalation in attacks is a part of Turkey’s plans to eradicate the Kurdish group along its southern border with the Kurdistan Region. Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. said in March that Ankara is close to completing a zone that will "permanently resolve" the security issues along their border with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq by the summer.

"This summer, we will have permanently resolved the issue concerning our Iraqi borders," Erdogan said at the time, and called on everyone in the region to respect Ankara’s security strategy, "Otherwise, they will be the cause of the tensions that will arise."

Iraqi and Ottoman Turkish security delegations have held several meetings to address the border security issue. In March, the Iraqi and Ottoman Turkish foreign ministries issued a joint statement after a meeting in Baghdad. "Both sides stressed that the PKK organization represents a security threat to both Turkey and Iraq, and it is certain that the presence of the organization on Iraqi territory represents a violation of the Iraqi constitution," read the statement.

Iraq banned the PKK and the two sides discussed measures against the group.

Ankara’s security concerns were also a topic of discussion between Iraqi and Ottoman Turkish officials during the Ottoman Turkish president’s visit to Iraq in April.

"We told them [Turkey] that the [Iraqi] National Security Council describes the PKK as a prohibited party," Bassem al-Awadi, the spokesperson for the Iraqi government, told Rudaw at the time.

"Each member of the PKK in Iraq is considered a political asylum seeker, but they will be banned from partisan and political work as well as bearing arms," Awadi said.

Officials in Baghdad previously have condemned Turkey’s operations, citing Iraqi illusory sovereignty. Their overtures, however, have not halted Turkey’s cross-border incursions, which are a violation of international norms and law.

Turkey’s Claw-Lock operation was launched in northern Duhok province in April 2022, with the goal of targeting PKK positions in Metina, Zap, Avashin, and Basyan areas. Ankara at the time said the goal of the operation was to remove the PKK from the border areas and cut off its access to mainland Turkey.

Kurdistan Asayish arrest 4 alleged smugglers in connection with Italy migrant shipwreck
25-06-2024
[Rudaw] Kurdish security forces (Asayish) on Tuesday announced the arrest of four suspected smugglers in connection with a deadly migrant shipwreck off the coast of Italia last week that killed at least 34 people.

"After investigating and collecting information on the suspects involved in smuggling the citizens of the Kurdistan Region to the Italian coast ... four big smugglers were arrested by judge’s order," Sulaimani-based Asayish said in a statement.

Two shipwrecks off the coast of Italia last week killed at least 34 migrants colonists. Most of the passengers were from the Kurdistan Region and Iran’s western Kurdish areas (Rojhelat), as well as from Bangladesh, Pakistain, Egypt, and Syria.

Italian authorities reported that 67 people were on board one of the vessels that capsized 120 nautical miles off the coast of Calabria.

Asayish assured "the citizens of the Kurdistan Region that its efforts and investigations will continue and anyone else involved in smuggling inside or outside the Region will be arrested and brought to justice," the statement said.

Tens of thousands of people from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region take on perilous routes out of the country towards Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
on a yearly basis in hopes of escaping the endless crises in the conflict-ridden country, including the lack of employment, political instability, a fragile economy and rampant corruption.

Among all the routes taken, the Central Mediterranean between the coast of North Africa and Italia and Malta is the deadliest in the world.

According to data from Italia’s interior ministry obtained by AFP news agency, arrivals to the country have dropped significantly since the beginning of the year, with 24,100 migrants colonists arriving so far this year, compared to 57,500 in the same period in 2023.

Around 20,000 people from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region migrated out of the country in the pursuit of greener pastures in 2023, with at least nine losing their lives on dangerous and illegal smuggling routes, according to the Summit (Lutka) Foundation for Refugees and Displaced Affairs.

Last month, the Asayish arrested Barzan Kamal Majeed, known as "Scorpion," one of the world’s most notorious migrant smugglers who was the subject of a BBC investigation in Sulaimani.

Iraqi airstrike targets ISIS hideout in Hamrin mountains

(ISIS) in the Hamrin mountain range that crosses Kirkuk and Salahaddin governorates, with three members of the group inside amid a recent escalation in the Iraqi forces’ anti-ISIS operations.

Iraqi state media (INA) cited a statement by the Security Media Cell that the Targeting Cell of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, in cooperation with the Iraqi intelligence, on Sunday "managed to target an important hideout of the failed ISIS detachments in the Hamrin Mountains within the Diyala Operations Command sector, containing three terrorist members inside."

"Through the heroic actions of our brave hawks, a devastating airstrike was carried out by F-16 aircraft on this hideout, turning it into rubble over the heads of the terrorists," read the statement.

"A number of hideouts and caves, along with the weapons, ammunition, and logistical materials they contained, were destroyed," it added.

There were no immediate reports of casualties during the strikes in rugged Hamrin.

The Iraqi forces recently have increased their attacks on the group. On Saturday, at least seven members of the group were killed in two separate airstrikes in eastern Salahaddin province, and on Friday, three ISIS members were also killed in an operation in Kirkuk.

Despite its territorial defeat, ISIS has continued to pose a serious security threat to the country through hit-and-run attacks, bombings and abductions in several provinces, particularly in areas disputed between the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), which stretch across several provinces including Nineveh, Diyala, Salahaddin and Kirkuk.

Iraq’s air force regularly pursues and targets ISIS hideouts across the country, particularly in the disputed areas.

[Rudaw] Two Iraqi airstrikes targeted hideouts of the Islamic State (ISIS) in eastern Salahaddin, killing at least seven members of the group including “a dangerous leader,” reported Iraqi security media cell on Saturday.

The operation, devised by the Joint Operations Command and carried out by Iraq’s national intelligence service in conjunction with the counter-terrorism service, struck “the most important” ISIS detachment in Tuz Khurmatu’s Palkana mountains, according to the statement.

“Two air strikes were carried out by F-16 aircrafts, which destroyed this tunnel as well as the rest of the hideouts leading to the killing of all members of the terrorist detachment,” said the media cell, noting that the detachment consisted of seven members according to preliminary information.

The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. militia group was designated by Washington in November.

Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada said in a statement that the vehicle of one of its fighters, Abdullah Razzaq al-Safi, was hit on Friday in "a treacherous American bombing," adding that he was patrolling the Iraqi-Syrian border when the airstrike took place.

The US-led coalition has denied carrying out the attack.

"Reports stating that U.S. or coalition forces carried out an airstrike on the Iraq-Syria border on Friday are untrue. No such operation took place," a spokesperson for the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) told Rudaw.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Friday that a "violent mostly peaceful explosion" took place in al-Bukamal, Deir ez-Zor province on the Iraq-Syria border. The area is under the control of pro-Iran militia groups.

Several activists and experts said on X that a shipment of Iranian weaponry was hit in an apparent Israeli airstrike. Rudaw English could not independently verify the information.

The US designated Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada and its leader Hashim Finyan Rahim al-Saraji in November, accusing them the group of receiving support from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and involvement in dozens of attacks on American interests in Iraq and Syria since Israel’s war with Paleostinian Hamas

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
