[NY Post] President Trump revealed Wednesday that he is considering reducing the number of US troops stationed in Germany after the country’s leaders criticized the Iran war.
"The United States is studying and reviewing the possible reduction of Troops in Germany, with a determination to be made over the next short period of time," the president wrote on Truth Social. "Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
On Monday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz argued the US had been "humiliated by the Iranian leadership."
"The Iranians are clearly stronger than expected and the Americans clearly have no truly convincing strategy in the negotiations either," Merz said.
Meanwhile, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has described the Iran war as a "disastrous mistake," accusing the US of violating international law.
Ramstein Air Base, the largest US military outpost in Europe, is located in Germany.
There are about 36,436 active-duty service members stationed in Germany, according to Pentagon data.
