5 Well the US pretty clearly wasn't escorting them using surface vessels. I guess that means they had rotor wing escort a few clicks away or fast movers wandering around in their vicinity. Regardless of the "escort" craft, apparently they were unable to launch any munitions to protect the vessels being escorted. So why trust them to do so next time? If you are claiming to provide protection, ya gotta deliver - or else you lose (more) street cred.
