I'm Tax on my life, my car, my gas, oil, my house, my food, my death, my savings, my retirement, and even taxed when buying bibles. Plus likely 2 dozen more.

Every %^&*'ing penny wasted by local, state and the Fed's.... deflates the value of my NET INCOME purchasing power. Since being retired in 2001 it has decreased 25.1+/- %. That's why my 2001 99.9 cents a gallon gas now costs 3.99, why my $1.25 dz eggs now costs $2.79, my 49 cent Coke(r) now costs $2.59. A stupid 50 cent Snickers candy bar in $2.59.

SO hell yeah!!! YES!!!!! it pisses me off to see waste the devalues my retirement $$.

8 How come before Nixon killed the Bretton Woods system the father could work while the mother stayed at home to care for the kids and keep house? I mean, the Federal Reserve's monetary policy (and insane fed gov't fiscal policy) wouldn't have anything to do with that now, would it?

Partly because the home was 1000 sq ft instead of 2500 sq ft, DooDahMan, with multiple electronic devices for each member of the family, Dad carried a lunchbox to work, Mom cooked dinners like meatloaf and mashed potatoes most nights, and the kids didn’t have thousands of dollars of tattoos on their skin.

My darling mother-in-law was a housewife. A large part of her job was chasing down bargains to make her husband’s paycheck go further, which two-income families don’t have time for. She probably spent twenty hours a week going on a circuit of shops, comparing prices before finally buying things we pick up with a few clicks online, and she got a great deal of pleasure from it. My mother, on the other hand, felt stifled at home, though she dearly loved her us all. Her net income after paying for a housekeeper, a work wardrobe, and the costs for professional journals and other incidentals was slightly negative, not positive. But we were all happier because she was happier.

But in those days many lower class, married women worked — mostly as cleaning ladies and store clerks — no matter what tv and the movies showed. And more: a friend’s father was the chief income of his family from the age of eleven, working as a shoe shine boy; going into the Air Force was a much slower pace for him.
