Plus, the breaks are a lot shorter.

And the graft/coercion/violence is smaller.

And they don't contribute to political parties or causes.

And they actually do their task consistently.

5 And the unions start finding out that constant demands for raises and better benefits is making it easier for the automakers to decide to replace human workers with robots who work as hard or harder than their human counterparts with better quality.

6 I would have to see where the “50” cobots were installed and see what the “1000” people were doing. This sounds unrealistic.

7 Seeing as how the Big Three are now health care providers that make cars on the side, the writing may finally be on the wall. There is no task that a human can do on an auto assembly line that a machine cannot do better or ultimately cheaper.

I have no doubt the UAW will try and fight a last stand, but realistically the smartest thing they can do is try and manage the human phaseout.

10 Raise minimum wages, raise unemployment. It's as simple as 2+2, but the politicians/panderers don't want to understand it, except to blame unemployment (and other "ills") on capitalism.

1000 people/50 robots=20 people each.
20 people/3 shifts~6 people per shift replaced by a robot
Consider 3 assembly lines and two people each, left and right, placing wiper arms.

13 I recently ordered food at a fast food restaurant from an AI drive thru order taker here in CA. Best experience ever. For the last 20 years it's always been crappy...usually they have accents so thick you can't understand them or they can't understand you. Plus mistakes were a given. With a $20/hr minimum wage for fast food workers here in CA why would you employ a person when you can have AI or robot?

14 I supervised in FWA for 7.5 very long years. Many of the jobs were already automated. That was 20 years ago. There was no way to add 50 cobots and eliminate 1000 people at that plant. If a plant existed that was so backwards where that could be done, it would have been closed by 2015.

15 #12 Joe - I replaced my 2004 F-150 5.4L V-8 4-speed with a 2020 2.7L (?) with twin turbos and 10-speed trans. Same power and torque and better mileage w/trailer pkg and 4WD

16 This story would be news 25-30 years ago. Replacing people with robots has been ongoing for years. This is not just in automotive plants.
